Everything was included for an enjoyable holiday.. The location was ideal for visiting the coast and castles. The Scottish border towns were all worth visiting with Eyemouth ,St Abbs and Berwick only 30 mins away. Two country pubs serving good meals in Lowick village.

This is the third time we have visited this cottage over the last 6years overall we enjoyed our stay there was a couple of things that let it down for us this time.. Oven had been attempted to be cleaned but the white cleaning product hadn't been wiped off the inside of the oven meaning that we had to finish off cleaning it before we used it. Another thing to note on the oven was all the labelling of the settings had worn off meaning we had to find the instructions for the oven before we used it,which there was actually 2 different sets of instructions in 2 seperate drawers so first time using the oven what we had cooked wasn't even on the right setting. Maybe in the file left for the cottage they should leave the correct instructions as it was abit misleading having 2 different sets of instructions! The microwave needed cleaning also before we used it as other people hadn't wiped out their splattered food. The kitchen utensils were greasy and needed washing. Two days after we got there the oil ran out for the heating meaning over night we had no heating other than the log burner which was lucky as we had been out and bought some logs earlier in the day,the owner did come out to see what the issue was that night but was only on the following morning they learnt the oil had ran out and then we waited until 3pm for the tank to be filled again. He then came back out and got it running again. First time we stayed in the cottage in 2014(when there was different owners) there was a problem with the heating the owners came with extra logs immediately for us to make sure we had enough but this time this didn't happen. Overall we did enjoy the stay but various things let it down for us which will probably stop us returning in the future. The dealings with the owners were pleasant and he tried his best to help get things sorted out around being at work himself.

The house is in a great village location with easy access to lots of places of interest.. The house itself is a good sized family home and very comfortable with safe back gardens. Lindisfarne is only a few miles away and well worth a visit, also Eyemouth and Kelso.

The cottage was more than we could have hoped for.. Clean, comfortable, warm and cosy, and very well equipped. The beds and bed linen were of a high standard, and the extra touches of umbrellas in the porch, a hot water bottle for each bed, and the lovely welcome pack of wine, oatcakes, cheeses and grapes were much appreciated. The owners were very kind and helpful. The area is great and location perfect for visiting Holy Island, Bamburgh, Alnwick and all other places of interest.

My husband, my 3 children inc a baby and I stayed here for a few days and loved it. The house was well located near the amenities in Berwick and the sights of Bamburgh and Lindisfarne. The house was clean, nicely furnished and comfortable. It was cold when we arrived and took some time to figure out the heating but once we did it was cosy. The log fire was nice to have too. We arranged for a grocery delivery to be ready for when we arrived and found that the host had very generously unpacked them and put the chilled and frozen items away. The bedrooms were comfortable and we enjoyed good nights sleep. A travel cot was made up with bedding for our baby. The bathroom was spacious with enough towels and toiletries. However we felt the shower pressure was quite weak and overall could have done with a more thorough scrub, especially the bathroom on the second floor. We didn't use the bedroom on the second floor but it was a nice space for the kids to place hide and seek in and views were lovely from up there (sunset photo below). The views were lovely from all windows, you can even see the sea from the back bedroom window. The kitchen was clean and well equipped for our needs. On the second morning we did notice some slug trails between the kitchen table and window; we cleaned it up and that night scattered some salt under the window that night and didn't see any more. It was very convenient to have use of a dishwasher and washing machine including detergents. Highly recommend the cottage.

Barmoor retreat is a beautiful house, hard work and thought has gone into making this house a perfect holiday home, Dave and Sue are very nice, Dave checked in on us to make sure we were okay, Sue emailed my husband to make sure we were safe after she heard someone had an accident in Lowick. The house is warm and has a friendly feel. It is clean and comfortable, I would recommend This house to anyone who wants a lovely holiday in Northumberland.

We've been booking holiday cottages for years and this one was the best by far.. As for the area. We had a fantastic week exploring Northumberland and the Scottish borders. Edinburgh was an easy 1 hour 30 min drive along very quiet roads.

My wife, grandfather, kids and I had the pleasure of staying at the Barmoor Retreat for a weeks break in Northumberland. We found house online and was swift and easy to book. Very reasonable price for a house of this standard. Spottless throughout, comfortable, homely, warm and very peaceful. Loved sitting round table at night after dinner feeling warmth from the aga and the wood burner in the living room was very relaxing. Had the best night's sleep I have had in ages in lovely double room on first floor and kids disappeared to top floor bedroom with ensuite shower and toilet which gave us all peace. Northumberland is stunning and we made most of each day looking forward to coming back to this house. You can hear a pin drop at night and the stars on a clear night were breathtaking. Sue and Dave are perfect hosts and have no doubt we will visit again in future. Thanks for a lovely holiday home for the week as we absolutely loved it.

The cottage was very comfortable and the kitchen was very well equipped.. Lovely situation with mainly birdsong. Good location for exploring area. Only draw back was getting cars out onto road as was just round a blind corner....one of those mirrors opposite would be great if the neighbours would allow

This is a home from home, warm and cozy, lovely welcome pack on arrival was well received. Water is piping hot and plenty of it if you fancy a soak in a decent sized bath. Everything is here you could possibly want, the beds are super comfy( I would quite like to take one home) or perhaps we could just move in! Ideal location for coast and Berwick. Take a trip to the Farne Islands while you're here.

The cosy homely feel of the cottage was just what we needed as a group of ladies in need of a chilledout weekend retreat.. Excellent value for money. The personal touch from the owners popping in to see if we where ok was nice along with the wee bottle of wine and oatcakes. We loved the board games! The cottage had two lovely bright rooms and bathroom on the second floor and the attic room you needed not to have any difficulty with a narrow spiral staircase. I think it would also suit a small family of five or a small group. The only thing I would say is don’t use the postcode to navigate because it will send you in circles on the sat nav. The cottage sits just off the junction that takes you to Lowick village. Thank you Sue and Pete we had a lovely time .

Leigh Family 22nd Dec - 28 Dec 2017 A lovely peaceful cottage which is very well equipped and capable of accommodating a large family.. On arriving we found everything ran smoothly and all the property facilities were well organised. The area has some beautiful surroundings; a short drive to Berwick. Will certainly be returning in 2018!

Northumberland is a beautiful place to visit, the cottage was lovely an just secluded enough to be peaceful but close enough to local conveniences in Lowick or a little down the road in Wooler.. The rooms were nice and the facilities were more than adequate. No complaints, very clean and nicely kept.

May 2017
This is a great place, to take a break, relax, sight see, chill out, go motoring, walking, cycling or golfing. It is accessible to all of Northumberland delights, and just off the A1, well equipped with all home comforts, (actually, even better), with use of a log fire, with a lovely modern kitchen with all the essential appliances. Spacious bathroom and bedrooms were delightfully decorated. Both owners were fantastic, so friendly and helpful on our first visit to this part of Northumberland. Nearby we enjoyed visits to Bamburgh Castle, Alnwick, Holy Island, Coldstream, Berwick on Tweed, and sampled great food, all reasonably priced, in many pubs and restaurants and cafes close by, suggested by the owners. A real retreat in the countryside, yet near to Northumberland historic sites, beaches and market towns. Even when the weather really not too kind we enjoyed time inside, reading, relaxing in the comforts of this lovely place.

There is a large walk in cupboard in the lounge that could easily be converted to a down stairs toilet as there isn't one!

Sometimes when you leave a review you KNOW that it may give you a problem when you want to go back to that property, as your review may just be the one that makes a 'searcher' book the week you are after....well,I hope it does as the owners and property ARE a delight, and we would move our week away just to make sure this property is free...yes, seriously. ! Everything about the property booked was excellent. From the porch ( for muddy shoes) to the front room with open fire, to the big kitchen...it was exactly as we had hoped for. We cannot think of anything that needed doing, replacing or changing about our 'home' for the week. It was of the highest maintenance, very very clean, warm, and a delight to use as a base for the week. Enough cutlery, pots, pans, plates, WINE GLASSES, beer glasses ( you know...the important stuff !!) and bedding...board games..books to read, maps of the area....a welcome basket AND small milk in the fridge......two showers and toilets, with everything in good working order...it really was just like being at home. Will we go back....OH YES !!! The owners were superb in all communication, and helped make our new baby's first ever holiday ....EASY !

If I had one wish it would be that we could have moved this cottage just a couple of miles nearer the coast. Despite looking at maps before we booked, we misjudged it and it is about 5 miles inland. That said, it's only about 15/20mins to Bamburgh and Holy Island, so still a nice base point. A lot of the attractions feel a bit far away - Alnwick, Dunstanburgh etc - but I think that given how Northumberland is, where ever you stay there will be something that feels like it's a bit of a drive :) That's probably the only thing I could even remotely class as a downside to this cottage, and that is clutching at straws. It was lovely and clean. The Aga heating meant it was cosy and warm (which you would hope you wouldn't need in August, but we did!). The rooms were great sizes, and our youngest (10) loved having the loft room to himself. Plenty of crockery and cutlery in the well-equipped kitchen/diner, and the little shelf of tipples was a lovely touch, even though we didn't have any (A great range of spirits, and a little honesty box to put a bit of cash in if you have any - fab idea!). I was on standby for a few work related things while we were staying there, so the WiFi/Broadband was a welcome addition. Ever so slightly slower than at home, but perfect for being able to check email and book tickets for castles! It's a terraced property, and we did hear the odd noise (dog barking etc) from one side, but never enough to be a disturbance. Would definitely recommend this cottage if you're heading up that way.

We were astounded at how good the property was and the extremely friendly welcome. It was our first time of exploring Northumberland and we were amazed at how much there was to see within a 20-30 mile radius. This is a brilliant property to stay in and convenient for all the places we visited. There are so many things to see and do in Northumbria; we will definitely have to visit the area again. Even on the one really wet day we had there were options and the wood burner in the lounge meant a cosy warm evening afterwards.

The cottage was absolutely wonderful and spotlessly clean with everything provided that we could possibly need. The cottage was also very warm which was great to come back to after our walks every day. And overall it's in a great location for visit all the amazing attractions that Northumberland has to offer. I would (and actually already have), recommend this lovely property to friends and colleagues alike.

We were very surprised about the quality of the Barmoor Retreat, it was faultless; very comfortable, homely, spotlessly clean and with added touches such as the log burner being already laid for us to light. The owners are very friendly and had also left us a welcome snack for our first night which was a lovely touch. The area is beautiful with loads of things to see and do, highly recommend the area and accommodation.

June 2014
On arrival, the travel cot was laid out beautifully with a teddy, which welcomed our baby to the house. The cottage had large, comfortable rooms and we really felt at home there. The cottage was spotlessly clean, with excellent bedding. The garden was pleasant to sit in. In terms of location it was a nice 15 minute walk to the centre of the village, and the route was accessible with a pram. It was also nice that the owner checked that we were ok after a few days. There was plenty of hot water and the shower and water pressure were excellent. The cottage is in a super location for the many attractions of Northumberland, which we loved visiting.
