The weather (being Scotland) was not good! The cottage was very warm, cosy and well equipped for a very 'chilled out' week as we spent more time indoors rather than outdoors! Very quiet location which suited us. The cottage being situated in the woods with walks from the doorstep when weather allowed, very enjoyable. Within easy reach of the town, good shops and eateries and beach (15 minutes) walk, with historical Scotland, Dunnottar Castle walkable from cottage.

We had a fantastic holiday.. It was a perfect location for visiting our family in Aberdeen and such a peaceful and beautiful place to stay. We enjoyed spending time in the wood, spotting fairy doors, and walking down to the beach. We had such a lovely time that we've already booked to come back again in the summer!

Lovely property and very comfortable to stay in.. I'm pleased I used a Sykes adviser, prior to travelling, as the property is a little hard to find being in the middle of a wood and off an unmarked track (decent tarmac surface though). The adviser gave me very clear directions including a satellite view. The only things missing for us were a welcome pack, a cottage manual with details on local services etc, a visitors book (you can always get good tips from previous visitors) and there was only a very small selection of leaflets on what to do locally.

Cottage was great albeit not within easy walking distance from the town centre

We found the property to be in a reasonably good location.. It is well equipped an cleanliness would score about 95%. For us, however it was let down by some minor faults that could have been eliminated if the owner or his agent had paid attention to detail. For instance the lid on the kettle is broken and this means that it will not switch off automatically. We found this after having switched it on and then returning some time later to find the kitchen filled with steam and the kettle almost empty. After this we had to resort to balancing a weight on the lid to keep it closed. There is an electric toaster but the regulator knob is missing so that it is not possible to adjust the setting. The cold water tap on the bathroom sink is loose meaning that the whole tap turns when the tap is turned on or off. The shower hose leaks at the shower head meaning that a substantial amount of the water runs away down the wall. The bottom door shelf in the fridge is missing which means that the large bottles of milk we bought had to be laid flat on one of the shelves. Need I go on? All of these are small faults but together they are very annoying and can spoil one's holiday. Oh, and if there were some means to report these faults to the owner, maybe someone else would have done so before now!

This cottage is set in a spectacular wooded area.. It had all amenities you could wish for and was a very short drive into Stonehaven. Lots of interest in the surrounding area including many charming coastal villages. Also good for bird-watching. Would recommend this either for couples or a family holiday.

This cottage is in the most idyllic location.. Very quiet, but very central to go to lots of places with 3 primary aged children. Would highly recommend this cottage.

Picked this spot to enable us to revisit places we had gone to many years back and some which had not been there before, like the Lewis Grassic Gibbon centre.. We had good weather which was a boon.

Stonehaven is my home town, I grew up there.. Sharon the owner makes for a good host, she values feedback and we found her very helpful. Beautiful cottage within former Steading quadrangle, surrounded on all sides by wide lawn perimeter then mixed woodland. Property well located for A90 access. Stonehaven itself is close by and affords a wide range of amenities including a Sea water outdoor swimming pool (Summer) the town also boasts a stunning natural harbour with two very good pubs both of which offer carefully and attractively presented meals, both also offer Real Ales. If you wish to relax and enjoy a few drinks with your meal then the local Taxi service is both efficient and friendly fare circa £5.60 each way. You may wish to visit the Internationally renowned and multi award winning Fish & Chip shop called "The Bay" which is owned by someone I have known since I was a boy, the Owner Calum is IMO a credit to Stonehaven and I am proud to call him my friend. Additionally an excellent Indian restaurant (near the town Square) Cafe's and further takeaways. For grocery shopping there is a good sized and well stocked Co-Op in town, a large Asda in Portlethen and a Sainsbury's and a further Asda at the Bridge of Dee in Aberdeen. All easily accessible. Banchory on Royal Deeside is approximately 30 minutes drive away and close by this you'll find Crathes Castle both well worth a visit. My home town would be a great place to base your holiday in North East Scotland and this lovely cottage will comfortably accommodate a family of five or five adults.
