Property Description

Holiday home
Sally End is situated just four miles from Ravenstonedale. The cottage sleeps four people and has one double bedroom with futon, one single bedroom with pull-out stacker bed, a bathroom, a fitted kitchen with a dining area and a small sitting room with woodburner. Outside the cottage offers off road parking for two cars and an enclosed garden. With the Yorkshire Dales and Lake District National Parks both nearby, Sally End is the perfect base for a romantic stay in this picturesque area.

Accomodation Details
Two bedrooms: 1 x king with single futon, 1 x single with pull-out stacker bed. Bathroom with bath, shower over, basin and WC. Kitchen with dining area. Cosy sitting room with woodburner. Note: The futon and pull-out stacker bed are suitable for children up to 12 years old.

Area
A small and compact village, Ravenstonedale has much to offer the visitor seeking a quieter experience than the nearby Lake District National Park provides. It is a pretty village; traditional whitewashed stone cottages and stone walls border the fields, whilst the Raven brook trickles by. St Oswald's church is largely from the Georgian era, comprising a solid structure with a simple square tower. In addition, there are elements from older buildings incorporated in it, and the base of a Saxon cross just outside. To the north of the church, excavations in 1920 revealed the foundations of a 13th Century Gilbertine Abbey. Ravenstonedale is a fantastic base for exploring the Lakes to the west or the Yorkshire Dales, just a short drive to the east. Those who prefer to stay closer to home can explore the Howgill Fells, the rounded hills which signal the start of the Lakeland ranges.

Region
Impressive mountains, open fells and clear-water lakes, the Lake District has it all. From walking in the mountains to exhilarating watersports or just a gentle cruise on a steam-powered yacht, Cumbria is the perfect holiday destination.

Amenities
Electric night storage heaters with woodburner. Oil-fired AGA, electric oven and hob, microwave, fridge, freezer, dishwasher, washing machine, tumble dryer, TV with Freeview, DVD, WiFi, selection of books, games and DVDs. Electricity, oil and starter pack for fire inc. in rent, further logburner fuel on an honesty box basis. Bed linen and towels inc. in rent. Cot and highchair on request. Off road parking for 2 cars. Rear enclosed lawned garden with patio and furniture. Two well-behaved dogs welcome. Sorry, no smoking. Shops 7.5 miles, pub 2.5 mile. Note: Due to animals on surrounding farmland, pets should be kept on a lead when outside.

The cottage was very warm and comfortable and well equipped.. The scenery was stunning the wild life abundant with the highlight seeing red a squirrel in the garden. Beautiful walks on the doorstep. It's a proper little oasis of calm a real sanctuary. Can't wait to go back.

We have stayed in a fair number of holiday cottages over the past eighteen years and only ever found one other to match this one for perfection. A beautiful cottage in a beautiful setting, well off the beaten track and perfect for those of us who want to escape the noise of traffic and general background noise. The only things you will hear here is the occasional sheep in the fields and the local farmer a couple of times a day going past. The views from the bedrooms and living room are wonderful, the cottage was very clean and tidy, and also very well stocked. There are even two fridges! The broadband IS superfast - I managed 20MB/sec. and there is an perfectly excellent mobile signal if you are on GiffGaff/O2. If I had any complaint at all it would be that some of the floor boards on the upstairs landing creak quite loudly when walking across them, which seems more noticable at night. Other than that, a perfect stay in a perfect setting.

We had a brilliant stay at Sally End over christmas. Lots of little touches around the house that made our holiday special, my children loved feeding the birds on a morning with the bird food left for us to use. Beautiful views from every window. Lovely helpful owners who even posted a few bits and bobs back to us we had left behind. Would definitely recommend to anyone wanting a peaceful retreat.

A beautiful cozy cottage surrounded by gorgeous views.. It is so tranquil and perfect for a relaxing get away. Plenty of wildlife to spot. Lots of lovely little touches like slippers, hotel style toiletries, tea and coffee and condiments. There is also WiFi available and a good 4G phone signal so you can still keep in touch with the world...if you want

Fabulous cottage and a very relaxing break.. They really had thought of everything for guests comfort. lots of extra touches like fresh flowers, toiletries, slippers, hot water bottles and the kitchen had everything you could think of. I didn't want to leave! In fact I could live in the kitchen alone, very cosy with the Aga and views from every room. Loved it!

Really nice cottage with lots of space.. The Aga in the kitchen was lovely and warm all the time and we cooked a couple of meals in it. Nice quiet location but very easy to find the directions provided were great. We enjoyed our stay and hopefully will be back.

Cottage holidays like this give everyone, at a relatively low cost, the chance to live their dream.. Most of us live in cities that are expanding at a frightening pace with every inch of green breathing space being swallowed up for more soulless, homogenised cells that pass for houses these days. From this cottage, in one of the most glorious parts of the Country, all you could see was fields of livestock. You went to sleep to the bleating of sheep, and awoke to the sound of birds, sheep and cattle. Stay here and have breakfast in clean air, watching tree creepers, nuthatches and woodpeckers visiting the garden whilst swallows swoop around. Then bid "good morning" to a playful lamb and thoughtful cow. Prepare a hotpot and pop it in the Aga. Go out for the day then come back to a glorious dinner and return to the garden with a glass of something interesting to catch the last rays of light and watch the stars come out to play. Sounds a simple life, but it is idyllic. Oh there's WiFi and television to keep children and teenagers happy. You even have mobile phone reception most of the time. So I urge people to book a holiday. Remove yourselves for a week or two and live life in a location like this. We can't change town planners views of what's important, but we can change ours. Even if you think you'd prefer Benidorm, book this cottage and try a slower pace of life...... you might find it restorative. Ultimately the true test of a holiday cottage is to ask the question "Would I like to book to stay there again?" And I would do so in a heartbeat.

Really comfortable cottage with views to die for.. Caretakers Sara and Robert made sure that everything you wanted was catered for. A walled garden complete with table and chairs and ideal for our dog to wander in. Many lovely walks straight from the cottage, a beautiful area well worth visiting.

Sally End is up a secluded lane, putting it far enough from the road to be away from the noise of traffic.. The Aga kept the kitchen warm and the stove - with a cheap and plentiful supply of logs (other owners take note) - kept the sitting room snug, too. The cottage has superb views of the fells from every window - a huge plus for townies looking for natural beauty. What really put Sally End ahead of other similar properties (and we've stayed in a few) is the love and care which the caretakers, Robert and Sara, bestow on the place. Little touches mean a lot.

The location of Sally End was perfect, Not too far from the main road but hidden away in the hills, the views from the cottage were amazing . The cottage was perfect for us as we love the olde world feel about it. The kitchen had an AGA, which kept the cottage lovely and warm. I would certainly recommend to family and friends if they like the solitude and appreciate amazing scenery and walks.

this was our 2nd visit to sally end and it was even better than I remembered - the location really is outstanding. from the garden we saw a red squirrel, a weasel and a sparrow hawk as well as a wide variety of garden birds. there are many walks from the door, and the surrounding area has so much to explore. the cottage keepers are pleasant and accommodating, and the local people are friendly and helpful - we have an 18 month old and nothing was too much trouble. the aga is constantly warm and toasty - wed definitely book again. thankyou.

We were kept waiting to check in we were told because of cleaning and I don't think I have ever booked a cottage that was as dirty . This was taken up with the with the company Sykes who we rate very highly and the management company who were also the cleaners came to cottage and said they did not know what we were complaining about .Very dirty equipment, utensils. We did not expect Buckingham palace with an old cottage but the least you expect is for it to be clean. The people suggested maybe it was because we had disabled children with us which was very offensive. We stay in many old cottages each year but this one was not acceptable or peoples attitudes !! We did receive a full refund after a fuss. Many thanks to Sykes who we always book through , they were great.

Sally End is very cosy and warm, with a great view from the sitting room. We appreciated the many possibilities to sit in peace to read in the house and in the garden. The children just liked to wake up seeing sheep and horses. We'll come again.

A lovely location and a beautiful view. The house is a great base from which to explore the Lake District and Yorkshire Dales. The house itself felt relaxed, warm and cosy. The décor and furnishings were perfect for a family. Loved the selection of books and games -especially the chess table.

Off the beaten track, just how we like it. Very cosy in the kitchen with the aga, and beautiful views from the back garden overlooking the hills. Two nice decent-sized bedrooms upstairs, one with a skylight, would be a really nice feature in the warm summer evenings. Really quiet area, possibly too quiet for families with children but ideal for us. A great place to relax and unwind.

We really enjoyed our weeks stay at Sally End. When we arrived after rather a long and rainy journey we were greeted by a picture perfect cottage, and a lovely warm kitchen heated by the AGA! The kitchen was great with everything you could need, The living room was cosy with a wood burner which we lit every evening. The bedrooms were comfortable, and the bathroom was lovely and clean! Brilliant Cottage! We very much hope to visit again!
