For a little more adventure, there s the Brecon Beacons National Park, an absolute haven for walkers, where you can enjoy the varied landscapes throughout the year, climbing and kayaking. For cyclists, you can take advantage of many scenic routes including the National Cycling Route (42), which runs nearby, together with some of the best mountain biking centres in the UK. You can try water sports at Llandegfedd Reservoir and there is fantastic fishing nearby on the River Usk, with day permits available in Usk. Visit one of the many vibrant market towns where you can pick up some local produce at a farmers market, the closest being Usk (5 miles), Monmouth (10miles) and Abergavenny (12 miles), the gateway to the Brecon Beacons. The area is also rich in heritage, with many castles including Raglan Castle, just a stone s throw away. There are numerous beautiful churches including the remains of the stunning Tintern Abbey, just a short drive away, as well as the well preserved remains of Roman civilisation in Caerleon and Caerwent. For those interested in horse racing, Chepstow racecourse easily accessible.
