The good-looking interiors of this historic farmhouse and two guesthouses fringing Volterra are impressive – but it’s outside where the magic truly unfolds. Set within nearly two hectares of private grounds, the views of the rolling Tuscan hills are jaw-dropping – with a showpiece infinity pool perfectly placed to soak it all in. Gather everyone together for lively alfresco dinner parties on the terrace – your host can arrange for a private atelier to do the cooking. You’ll need a car to explore here, and Florence, Pisa, and Siena are all within easy reach. Or keep things closer to home – the medieval frescoes and palazzos of hilltop Volterra are just a five-minute drive away.

*The swimming pool is chemical-free and has a shallow end – perfect for little ones.
