Coppedè isn’t the best-known quarter of the city, but it’s something of an undiscovered gem. The buildings, an enthralling mix of art nouveau, Greek classicism, medieval and baroque, were all built around the same time, and designed by the eponymous architect. As a flat, L'Esploratrice lives up to the area’s reputation for upmarket homes. It’s set over two floors, and retains many of the original, early-twentieth-century features – like the granite floors and carved wooden door frames.
Home truths: *The entrance to the flat is on the first floor, and you'll have to take the stairs to get there
*When we visited, both the TV and wi-fi were not yet installed, so we weren't able to test them
*The flat's a little way from the very centre of the city
*Two people can sleep on a sofa bed in the living room
*The second bathroom is very basic
