This eccentric home is a little gem on the edge of Regola and overlooking the Campo de' Fiori market. It occupies the top floor of a historic fifteenth-century building that once belonged to Vannozza dei Cattanei, courtesan and lover of Cardinal Rodrigo Borgia, whose family crest still adorns the outside. There's no getting away from the fact that the living room is small, but there is just about space for an extra person on the bed. Really, though, this flat is all about the bedroom. The wallpaper is the first thing you notice, but pretty much every detail has been carefully thought through, and they all come together wonderfully. The host, Paola, lives on the same floor of the building, so she's always close by should you need anything during your stay.
Home truths: *The surrounding area is pretty busy both day and night and there might be some noise coming in from the street
*One guest can sleep on the sofa bed in the living room
*The shower isn't huge and it's only 190cm high
*There's no lift and the flat is on the second floor, so you'll have to climb the steep stairs
*The air conditioning is only in the main bedroom, not the living room
* Child-friendly amenities such as a cot are available upon request
