The character of the property and the surrounding area.. Welcome by Philip. The feeling of peace in the flat.

The cottage was excellent and we would have no hesitation in returning.. We were met by Father Philip who explained all and nothing was too much trouble for him. The cottage was well equipped and indeed exceeded out expectations in this respect. We found the location ideal for visiting the area and was easy to find. All in all a great couple of days if you need somewhere in the area.

Beautiful historical building very well maintained, adapted for all modern facilities whilst maintaining its character.. Warm welcome and flexible hours for check-in/check-out was very much appreciated. Wifi signal is not as strong as it could be, just a heads up if you are planning to work online during the stay.

The property is situated on the busy high street @ Polesworth with your daily needs very close to hand.. The cottage has lots of character & we found it spotlessly clean with lots of little extras. Parking a bonus & a lovely small garden.

We found Gatehouse Croft a delightful place to stay.. The facilities are excellent, staying in this well-modernised medieval building was a pleasure, and Polesworth is a good centre to be in. We also appreciated the little things provided, including on arrival two pints of milk in the fridge, and a cake.

Everything was great at the Abbey.. Father Philip is so kind and warm. The accommodation is always very clean. Again the internet was a problem. We were without internet for half of our 21 day stay. This did cause problems with work, but we did not let it spoil our stay. It would stop me from booking again though if not corrected.

We loved our stay from start to finish! Sykes Cottages were helpful, friendly and courteous, our greeting at Gatehouse Croft was warm and genuine. The property is simply stunning inside and out, it;s warm and cosy from the underfloor heating downstairs - so much so that we didn't light the fire even with overnight temperatures below freezing. The property is clean, tidy and well equipped, particularly in the kitchen which for someone like me who enjoys cooking is a real bonus. We wouldn't hesitate to recommend Gatehouse Croft and will most definitely be back on a future visit to the UK.

It’s sad to say that this beautiful property is ruined by noise. Not just from the social club and pub opposite ( advertised) but the car park behind the property being used as a meeting point for cars and their owners bringing subwoofers to play full volume , using car horns to play tunes. Cars doing donuts. All very intimidating.

Beautiful medieval cottage, sensitively restored, perfectly chosen furnishings to maintain feel of the place and wonderfully well equipped.. Everything of good quality, cutlery, saucepans glasses etc Comfy bed and cosy woodburner - with logs! Warm welcome from Father Philip and lovely cake to welcome us with milk, tea bags etc. Dog friendly with blanket and bowls. Polesworth itself is not particularly attractive, but the two cottages that form part of the old abbey gatehouse are utterly delightful. There are lots of stairs if you are using the second floor bedroom, so suggest mobile adults and no tiny children. There is social club and a pub immediately opposite, which may have been a noise issue if we were using the second floor bedroom, but the main bedroom, on the first floor, is at the back of the cottage, so no problem on our stay. Sykes, as an agency are really helpful and friendly and this, too, makes for a lovely holiday!

The accommodation is fantastic.. If you appreciate history, you will love Gatehouse Croft. It has been really well modernised inside, and I don't think there was anything which could be improved in terms of comfort, cleanliness or facilities. Our host, Father Philip, gave us a warm and generous welcome, and was on hand to help during the day when I couldn't turn the heating down! The only downside was outside noise. We had been prepared for noise from the pub and club opposite, but the real problem was the young men who frequented the car park area behind the property at night. We were subjected to handbrake turns in a car plus lots of shouting on our first night, then football and lots of shouting between 1am and 3am on our last night. We left early for this reason, such a shame as it is a lovely property.

Gatehouse Croft is a historic building which has been imaginatively repurposed as a holiday let. It has ALL the facilities you could possibly desire. The ground floor living space is expansive, and each of the bedrooms has its own small sitting area. We did experience some noise from the local pub and social club. However, this is specifically mentioned in the description of the accommodation, and it is worth this minor inconvenience to stay in such a lovely place.

The property was very good and to the description given.. Father Philip was most helpful and really pleasant. We were without internet for two days. We will not ask for a refund on this occasion. However it did cause a couple of problems for us. I would like to request that you please stop sending me all the emails I receive from you. I have requested this already. Every time I enter your site I get emails. If I wish to book a property I will contact you. I found the staff at Sykes very pleasant but the constant emails are extremely off putting as a client.

We were stunned by the space and facilites the accomodation offered.. Father Philip gave a real warm welcome and really cared if everthing was alright. The Pub next door can be somewhat noisy sometimes.

LIke something out of a period drama, like going back in time, beautiful, historic and comfortable..

Our "greeter" Father Phillip Wells was very pleasant and helpful.. The setting was quite outstanding with the property containing a wealth of history. One slight confusion concerned some visitors reference (in the visitors book comments), to a "welcome pack" which we did not receive although this was not expected. We thought that "welcome packs" may be connected to possible religious groups booking the cottage. Otherwise a nice stay with very friendly people.

The accommodation was of great historic interest. An old Abbey which had been refurbished in a wonderful, tasteful manner. The furnishings had been collected from good antique dealers and were superb in their settings. Although the bed was an old oak half tester it was wonderfully comfortable. It was a nice, quiet location in spite of the club and pub opposite. It was also very handy for the shops in Polesgate, and the shop just over the road had just about everything one would need. I am so glad we went there.

We liked everything! The location, ambiance and overall very high standard of the property - not to mention the friendly welcome - made for a most enjoyable break. Despite fronting a fairly busy road and an equally popular path through the abbey grounds, Gatehouse Croft was extremely quiet and relaxing. The beds were comfortable and, on the coldest night of the year we were as warm as toast. All that and the local area provided superb walks for our Golden Retriever! We will certainly be back.

The Gatehouse is a very interesting property with a long history. The refurbishment has been made to a very high standard and we found that it is better equipped than many of the other cottages we have stayed in over the past few years. It was also very well maintained and very clean. We were particularly impressed with the little touches such as fresh flowers, toiletries etc. We hope to return and will definitely recommend it to others.

For our son, a professional jazz musician, Christmas 2014 was a busy period, with gigs up and down the country. As a result, he could not make it home to the Isle of Wight from his house in Leeds. We therefore decided to celebrate a 'delayed Christmas' in mid-January and, in order to share the travelling, we agreed to meet at Polesworth, which lies about half way between the two. We rented the Gatehouse Croft for the weekend and had the most wonderful stay. The house is probably the best-equipped rental accommodation in which we have ever stayed and we lacked for nothing. With its mixture of Mediaeval structure and modern facilities, it was extremely comfortable and, indeed, on the coldest night of the year [minus 4 C], we were as warm as toast, thanks to the log fire and the under-floor central heating. The whole place was spotless and beautifully presented and we received the friendliest of welcomes from the custodian, Father Philip, who gave excellent guidance on shopping, sightseeing and walks for out two Golden Retrievers: Sherlock and Mycroft. The village itself has a good range of shops, including a small Co-op supermarket and a superb 'old-fashioned' butcher's shop, selling first class local produce. There is a good fish and chip shop near by but the real find was the American Diner, just down the road, whose burgers and milkshakes were first class. We will certainly visit again!

The ambience of the property was fantastic; history oozed from every beam, wall and rafter. The welcome received from the owner and the local people was fantastic; and the dog was well catered for. Living only a mile away from this property we have watched the scaffolding erected and builders come and go and read about the lottery funded restoration of Polesworth Abbey gatehouse, so with friends from Lincolnshire coming to visit for the week it was a perfect excuse to book the property as a base to introduce them to the area - and oh boy, are we glad we did. This is one of the most amazing properties it has been our privilege to stay in. Full of character and charm you could feel the history in every beam, wall and rafter whilst enjoying the modern day comfort of under floor heating, free Wi-Fi and dishwasher. The welcome from Fr. Philip and his flock made us proud to say we were locals and we were amazed at the discoveries we made about our own locality and heritage. Situated on the Warwickshire/Staffordshire/Leicestershire boarder the property is an ideal base for days out to Bosworth Battle Field, the National Memorial Arboretum Drayton Manor Theme Park, Twycross Zoo and many more attractions as well as been about 45 minutes from Birmingham or Nottingham in you require a serious shopping day, Theatres etc. It should be noted that there are steep stairs to the top floor where the twin room is situated which would be unsuitable for young children or the less mobile. We are so pleased that we decided to 'holiday at home' - it was just fantastic and a place we would certainly recommend and can't wait to return to.
