What an amazing experience staying at Porters lodge.. Lovely warm welcome from Father Philip, lodge itself was perfect! Far exceeded our expectations. Beautifully restored and furnished. 5 pubs and a supermarket all in walking distance were a bonus. Can't wait to return

The space was totally unexpected, the property was absolutely spotless and obviously loved by the people who maintain it.. The welcome by Fr Phillip was so relaxed and ‘unofficial’, it felt like being welcomed by a friend.
We had noted the comments about weekend noise from the pub over the road but were fortunate to a) stay midweek, and b) stay during the Coronavirus pandemic when live music wasn’t permitted so we didn’t get disturbed.
We will definitely return as there was so much to see and do that was out-of-bounds for the time-being, and we’ll be prepared with ear plugs if the music might be a problem!

We had a very warm welcome from Father Philip.. Accomodation was breathtaking !! and so many extras, Christmas tree and jugs of holly/flowers. We lacked for nothing, hardly any noise at all from the pub opposite even on New Years Eve ! We enjoyed walks from the Abbey Church along the river, and along the Coventry Canal. Slightly further afield beautiful walking in the Charnwood Forest area, and then New Year's day we enjoyed travelling by steam on The Battlefield Line, from Shakerstone Station, only about 5 miles from the Lodge. Complimentry mince pie and sherry was handed out before we got off, its a 15 minute walk then up to the Battle of Bosworth site before heading back for train. We hope to return .

Porters Lodge was far better then the photos showed.. We loved everything about the cottage itself and getting the keys all went smoothly. However we did have some concerns before we came about the noise level from the pub across the road and our concerns were justified. Saturday night was especially loud and it partly ruined our stay. We would never stay there again which is a shame because we loved the cottage.

Amazing refurbishment of 14th century building.. Lots of info on the history. Felt spacious and cosy. Didn't want for anything. Great to be in the Abbey grounds. Lots of fresh flowers and beautiful furniture. Father Phillip v welcoming and helpful. Our little dog loved it too. A little noisy Fri and Sat night from pub but good the village is lively tbh and didn't go on too late. We hope to come back and stay in the winter to use the wood burner. Good fish and chips over the road.

We had a fantastic time, this property is truly wonderful and we couldn't have been made more welcome.. The lodge is so full of history and and has been beautifully restored retaining so many original features, it was absolutely well equipped with everything we need, and was beautifully cleaned and presented with some lovely additional touches in our case a Christmas tree which gave it a lovely festive homely feel.
The area was great with lots to do and see we visited Stratford upon Avon for the theatre and Warwick Castle, but you do not need to go far, the village itself has a lovely river walk and poetry trail and the people were incredibly friendly in the local shops and pubs.
We would highly recommend a visit to this special property.

Wonderful!
The Porter's Lodge is a wonderful building and has been renovated to an exceptionally high standard and is incredibly well-equipped.. It is spotlessly clean and is very well looked after. Father Philip made us feel very welcome indeed. The best views from the cottage are out over the abbey grounds, which were beautiful in the snow. Despite the falling temperatures outside, we were lovely and warm thanks to the log burner and great central heating.
The village of Polesworth has a few shops (including a well-stocked Co-op). There aren't many eating out options in the village itself - the Spread Eagle pub right across the road from the Porter's Lodge was friendly but didn't seem to serve food. However, as the cottage is so lovely and the kitchen so well-equipped, it was a pleasure to stay in and eat. The village makes a great base but you do need a car (or bikes) to make the most of the area. As suggested in the details, there was some noise from the pub and the social club, but it didn't disturb us at all.
We would thoroughly recommend the Porter's Lodge - it's a wonderful cottage.

I booked this cottage for a somewhere to stay the night before my wedding and for a few days away after.
I love how they have managed to keep that quirky medieval charm yet put in all the luxury of the modern times.
I had a few people come to visit and each person loved it!
Set in beautiful surroundings with everything you need on its doorstep.
The stairs are steep to get up to the property but if I can get up and down in a wedding dress anyone else should find them a doddle!
Beamed ceilings, real fire, country walks and pubs in the village what more do people need :)
Plus the priest is a great character with many stories to tell if your interested.

We most enjoyed the history of the building (14th century). The owner and the locals were all very friendly. The Porter's Lodge has been restored to a very high standard and it is not just clean, it sparkles! As we had our dog with us we were pleased to be able to reach the park just a minute away up the drive.

This cottage was exactly what I was looking for. It is quirky, beautiful and so peaceful. Despite being close to all amenities (Co-op, pubs, restaurants) we were also undisturbed the whole time we stayed there.
We were looking for some quiet, down time as a couple and that is exactly what we got. The cottage is so cosy and welcoming - everything is so comfortable.

Exceeded my expectations. I booked online from a review. I was a little scared. We came from Canada and I had dealt with the whole process on line. From the pictures and reviews I made a leap of faith. It was quirky and warm and welcoming. We were provided with a bit of history from Father Phillip, the caretaker of keys. It was convenient to the areas that we were interested in. A bit of drive to find an evening meal, about 10 minutes away. The fish and chip take out just down the street was very tasty. It was fully equipped with everything we needed and the appliances were easy to use. Very enjoyable.

This accommodation really has the 'wow' factor. Everything was considered that would make this a home from home. All of the refurbishment was sympathetic with the age of the property and it was all high class, high quality and is the cleanest pet friendly accommodation that I have ever had the pleasure to stay in. We will definitely return.

The owner gave us a warm welcome and a brief history when we picked up the keys. Stepping in the living room area we filled with awe. The dark beams, leaded windows, glow from lamps, fresh flowers and shiny surfaces, all made for a very warm welcome. Very comfortable, we had everything we needed.

We couldn't fault this beautifully renovated 14th Century Porter's Lodge accommodation. The kitchen was well equipped with everything you needed, the bathroom had a superb bath and shower with plenty of hot water. The main living accommodation even had a court jester in the corner! The owner was so welcoming and friendly and everyone visiting should ask him for the tour of the Porter's living quarters! We would like to think we would visit again.

Excellent accommodation, nothing too much trouble for the owner. Little touches, for example milk in the fridge upon arrival, and unlimited wood for the wood burner. Made to feel most welcome. Was told a little about the restoration of the property and its history which was most interesting.

This unique property was exceptional on every level. We chose it for the log burner and the romantic look about the place. Such attention to detail on such an ancient property made this a most peaceful and relaxing place to stay. The owner kept us topped up with logs, as well as entertaining us with the history of this fabulous place. Underfloor heating, an excellent shower and a comfy bed in the eaves made it all unforgettable.
