Fantastic place. We spent a lovely week at Bullace Barn and enjoyed the large garden with space for football, badminton, cricket, etc and the BBQ and fire pit. An added bonus is the private little island surrounded by the river, great for paddling and splashing and catching crayfish! Had a great night on the island with a fire listening to the river next to us. The accommodation itself is very clean, spacious and has everything you could need or want, including a pool table! Marshall and Jayne, the hosts, are very welcoming and available for anything you need, including advice and tips on places to visit. Lovely area, lovely holiday let. Will definitely be back!

it was a pleasure to stay at Bullace Barn - which was very well equipped, extremely comfortable and spotlessly clean. The welcome pack was most generous as was the welcome and care taken by the owners. For us the horses, chickens and dogs added to the ambience. We recommend this place for a family stay and will return without doubt.

The barn has been converted to an extremely high standard, it is very very well equipped throughout and it is clear the owners, Jane and Marshall, have put a lot of thought into every aspect from the welcome baskets for humans and dogs to the well equipped kitchen to the quality of the bed linen and everything in between. We had everything we needed including a travel cot, high chair, dog crates, WiFi, and plenty of hot water. The pool room was an added bonus. With a year old baby the whole house was safe for him to explore, lots of places to practice his walking! The level of cleanliness was impressive throughout, the beds are so comfy and the upstairs living room was huge with lots of sofas, a TV and PlayStation. There was even a basket of toys and books for children. However it is the friendliness of the owners that make this place over and above most holiday let’s, nothing was a problem, Jane was there when we arrived and was a fountain of knowledge for the local area and where to walk with the dogs and recommended a great traditional pub for Sunday lunch Would highly recommend Bullace Barn

The accommodation is set in a lovely location with scenic views. The facilities are adequate. The owners fail to mention that you are in close proximity to horses and a stable, so a smell drifts across. The people who attend to the horses make you feel like a nuisance for using the access to the property and are rude.

A truly wonderful converted barn with everything you could possibly need for your stay. We were here with elderly grandparents and younger children and we all had a great time. Plenty of competition at the pool table, lots of movie nights where we could all crash out on the large and numerous couches, a big kitchen for lovely family meals, and 2 bathrooms. All set within beautiful surroundings meaning we could walk from the barn straight on to some fantastic walking routes. The owners were so lovely and welcoming and had plenty of information to share on things to do and places to visit. A perfect holiday.

An excellent and well equipped cottage.. This is our second visit to Bullace Barn. The only thing we felt was missing is plastic crockery for kids (it felt risky giving them the nice plates!) Also, the stair gate needs refitting to close the gap between the bottom of the gate and the floor - our 20 month old discovered he could squeeze beneath it which isn’t ideal!

Stayed at bullace barn with wife, son and his wife for 5 nights. From the moment we arrived it was perfect the owner was there to meet us with the keys, she showed us round the house was very warm and comforting. This is one of the best appointed holiday lets I have ever stayed in you did not need to take anything with you, the cleanliness was above standard the bathrooms had high quality products, there was an unexpected welcome pack in the kitchen for us, I could go on and on about the place. The owners were more than helpful when we saw the out working there property, there are stables with horses and a foul in that we visited every day with carrots and apples For the horses the owners of the horses were more than happy to let us do that, thankyou to them . Within 5 mile radius of the barn are some of the best willages I have been in and there is no shortages of really good eating houses pubs and quirky cafes ( oil can cafe yum yum Yorkshire and many more) if any one has doubts about the let please contact me I we’ll be more than glad to recommend bullace barn .

Lovely barn very spacious but cosy at the same time.. Everything you needed was available and very good quality. No expense seems to have been spared furnishing this barn it’s a little gem. Would recommend to friends. Plenty of walking in the area and weather was good too. Mr and Mrs England are very friendly and happy to give advise.

Absolutely fantastic a beautiful rural setting.. The cleanliness was very well thought about. The oven was lined with tin foil between the dishes of pirex had a liner the cupboards had liners where the glasses sat. It was like being at home everything to hand a beautiful set of pots pans and dinner service. The lounge well what can I say for us the pool table was the feature family came to play. We will be back. Fully recommend a stay to explore Yorkshire.

A really lovely Barn, well equipped with everything you would want for a self catering holiday.. The snooker table was well used, and made for some fun evenings. The horses stabled across the yard were visited every day by my grandchildren with apples and carrots and everyone was very friendly. This is a good base for visiting all the attractions and the excellent walking this part of the country has to offer.

We were very pleased with the quality of the property it was very large & very well equipped.. The lounge was very large & very well fitted out with comfortable sofas. It was very nice talking to the owners who allowed us to see the horses which they have stabled there. We found the area very spectacular with a lot of places to see (National Trust) within a reasonable driving distance. There was also plenty of places around to eat out at.

Wow! What a lovely place to stay. It's for 7 and its huge just 2 of us for most of the stay. 9-16/6/17. A lovely warm welcome from the owner Jane and a very unexpected welcome pack getting the holiday off to an amazing start. Had a few chats with Jane and Marshall, they are both lovely and helpful, nothing is to much trouble. Although to be fair they get on with their day to day life leaving you alone. Sam our Border Collie settled but aged nearly 11 the long walks proved a little challenging at times Everything is catered for, no need to bring anything, the kitchen has everything you will ever need including a crock pot! So many cupboards so if you can't find anything just keep looking! Upstairs is the lounge and a bedroom very spacious indeed, 3 settees. All king size/super king size Beds very comfy indeed. The pool table was a plus, as was a selection of games and puzzles - it had everything. Lovely outside too, with a few areas to sit and enjoy the views or indeed get friendly with the horses and their owners. A great base to explore the countryside A local shop and pub on your doorstep but a couple of miles away in Penistone a Tesco. Visited the Dams, Holmfirth, Castleton and did a few of the trail walks. We had a takeaway from Village Tandoori, no menu sorry but you can find it off the Tinternet, it was lovely! Well guess by now you realise what a gem of a place this is. Can highly recommend, without any hesitation! Thank you Jane & Marshall for a lovely weeks stay. X

December 2016
We stayed at Bullace Barn over the Christmas week and we had a hassle free, thoroughly relaxing and enjoyable week. With six adults, two young children and a dog the barn had more than enough room to accommodate everyone without feeling on top of one another. The barn has everything you could possibly need for your stay, a super kitchen which is equipped with loads of utensils and crockery. The table easily accommodates 8 and with visitors we had 11 around the table at one point! Again there is ample room in the kitchen for many people to mill around. The lounge is absolutely huge! With us visiting over Christmas this was ideal for the children to have all of their toys out and there was still plenty of room without it feeling cluttered. The pool room was brilliant and much enjoyed by all. The large utility room is ideal for storing shoes, boots, coats and for cleaning off the dog. There is also a garage lockup for those wanting to bring bikes. Location wise the barn is set on a 10 acre plot with horses right outside which is lovely to wake up to and a lovely viewing element. It is a 5 minute walk to the Pennine Trail (the bridge over the road as you come down the hill) which provides lots of easy walking or cycling routes. It took us 45 minutes with children and brief photo stops to walk on the trail to the Tesco's at Penistone. A lovely pub is 5 minutes walk up the road which serves food, although we didn't actually eat there so I cannot review that element. We sampled an Indian takeaway from Penistone, Taste of India, which was lovely both times we had it and The Generations cafe in Penistone is well worth a visit for lunch or coffee and a cake. Overall we have some fantastic memories from our stay at the barn and cannot fault it in any way. The owners live next door and were so helpful. We will definitely be back!

Bullace Barn is first class. Everything about it was truly excellent. The owners are lovely people who are willing to help you with any advice. Bullace Barn was our very first experience of a Barn holiday let and it has certainly set an exceptional high standard! The farm surrounds were wonderful and it was a pleasure to look out of your windows at the beautiful horses. We could not fault anything.

February 2016
We stayed with friends over the weekend in the most beautiful, clean, well equipped and warm cottage with a very lovely hostess. Our welcome pack of tea, coffee, bottle of wine , cream cake, chocolates and flowers were a lovely touch. The cottage is so well laid out with bags of storage space in the massive kitchen / dining room. I personally enjoyed it so much I'm hoping to return in the future, and could live there without changing any part of it. If you wish to stay in a cottage like this then look no further. in the last 15 years this is by far the best we've had.

January 2016
We had a large party and the space accommodated everyone. The bedrooms were brilliantly sized, especially the family room, which had a king size bed and single bed for our daughter. We had enough room for our baby's travel cot. Both the kitchen and living room areas were also a great size. I would recommend this barn to everyone.

Just spent New Year at Bullace Barn with my husband, children, our dog, four of our close friends and their children aswell. Age range was 3 months to 35 years. Really enjoyed our stay as it had everything we needed. The living room was really spacious and the children had hours of fun playing on the pool table. A Christmas tree had been put up which was great for the kids. The bedrooms are really spacious and our family room was great as we also had enough room to put up a travel cot, also really comfy beds. Our daughter enjoyed going in the barns to see the horses and we had some great walks with our dog. Lovely pub about 5 minute walk down the road called The Blacksmiths Arms which was really cosy and dog friendly aswell which was great. The owner Jane left a Welcome Basket for when we arrived which was great. We would definitely recommend a stay here, it was absolutely perfect.

Bullace Barn was perfect for our family Christmas get together. The property was decorated, furnished and equipped to the highest standard. The large utility was a great help and the kitchen was exceptionally well equipped. The lounge was very spacious. As there were three living areas we could all have our own space when we needed it. A great holiday experience.

December 2015
We have just had a wonderful Christmas at Bullace Barn. Seven of us stayed there but visiting relatives meant we catered for up to 11 people with ease. The age range was 3 to 84 and everybody had a great time and with having the games room, a spacious lounge as well as the large dining kitchen we had ample room to spread out it we wanted a bit of space. Jane had kindly provided a lovely welcome basket and a large Christmas cracker full of sweets for the children which was much appreciated . The property has a large utility room which was great for drying the dog and leaving all the wet coats, boots and wellies etc The bedrooms were confortable with quality bedding, the lounge was spacious with plenty of seating and the games room was the icing on the cake. A great place to stay.

Wonderful spacious venue for our family gathering, especially the large well kitted out kitchen. There was plenty to do in and out of the Barn with a pool table and games to play on the rainy days and walks in the countryside on the good days. Our 18 month only grandson enjoyed the horses and chickens.

Bullace Barn is one of the best places we have stayed in, we could not have wished for more. There are some great places to visit, and the views are spectacular, would definitely like to return some day.

August 2014
Our group comprised of three couples - we loved the fact that the Barn has three equally sized, equally beautiful bedrooms, as a lot of properties we looked at for groups of six could only do so with bunk beds. The kitchen/diner was perfect - we cooked every night we were there and it had everything we needed. It was great to have such a spacious lounge where could all relax without feeling on top each other. All round perfect - nearly all my holidays are in self catering properties and this is the best I have stayed in. Couldn't fault it - flawless!
Miss Yallop
August 2014
The owners were very friendly and helpful. A home from home kitchen the best we have ever had. The boys loved having the pool table. It is a fantastic property set in a beautiful area with lots of lovely places to walk. Although it's a pet friendly property you couldn't tell. We had a fantastic time!! Would definitely recommend it and return as there was so many places we didn't go to.

August 2014
Beautiful accommodation. Our group comprised three couples and we were all thoroughly happy with our bedrooms. The kitchen is just wonderful - everything you could need plus plenty storage/fridge freezer space and a great sized table. We had big, home cooked dinners every night and there was nothing we needed which wasn't there. A really luxurious welcome basket was very much appreciated too! Thank you VERY much! I have no doubt we'll be booking to stay again and recommending to people we know!

August 2014
very nice and spacious cottage, kept to a very high standard and with lots of high quality kit in it. Just outside the Peak District, but very close to the Trans-Pennine Trail for cycling and walking. The owners live next door, and are very helpful. There are horses stabled on site and in the adjoining field, and hens (and a cockerel) there too. Our teenage boys enjoyed the pool table, and the wifi and games console, while our daughter enjoyed visiting the animals, and our dog enjoyed the whole place (though we didn't allow her upstairs or in the bedrooms). Nothing bad to say - splitting hairs, the wifi doesn't work in a couple of the bedrooms, which the owners are trying to fix though the thick walls are a challenge, and with the windows open on the road side you can hear the traffic even though its 80 yards or so away. July 2014
The high standards achieved in the Barn made a great impression on both our families, a child friendly property and the spacious areas within were constantly explored by the grandchildren. Along with greeting the horses from the utility room window each morning, the chickens and cats in the yard all made for a wonderful farm yard experience. The location was a convenient starting point for our holiday and the travelling distance to and from the local attractions. The information pack provided guided us to some great evening cuisine and just minutes away from the Barn.

We appreciated our welcome and the welcome goodies. The accommodation was of a very high standard and more than met our needs. Altogether we had a wonderful week's holiday.

July 2014
Beautiful barn in a lovely location, close enough to easily walk to the village and on to the Trans Pennine Trail. We received a warm welcome from the owners including a marvellous welcome pack. We enjoyed our visits to Chatsworth House, Castleton and Cannon Hall park gardens. It was ideal for a family get-together holiday, the babies loved the horses looking in through the barn windows and feeding the chickens! The build-up in the area for the Tour de France was very exciting!

We booked Bullace Barn for 1 week in June 2014, well what a fabulous place. The accommodation is detached, spacious and very well equipped. The owners live next door and are there when you need advice otherwise the place is all yours - perfect. The place was immaculate and clearly looked after with pride. It is a quiet location yet 5 minutes drive from Penistone with supermarkets etc. Surrounded by fields, horses, chickens - it's ideal and very safe. We had our grandchildren stay with us for two nights and they naturally loved the place. The lounge is upstairs together with the master bedroom and ensuite. Downstairs there are two large bedrooms at opposite sides of the house - well planned if you had a couple of families staying there. The kitchen is excellent plus a large utility/laundry room too. We cannot speak highly enough of the place or the owners - we will definitely be back (why would we go anywhere else?). Suffice to say that when we next come back to the UK we will book Bullace barn first and then our flights to fit around that - enough said.
Mr Weston
June 2014
This was an absolutely perfect place to stay. Totally immaculate throughout and fitted out to an exceptional standard. In a quiet location with beautiful surroundings, only 5 minutes to a large supermarket and facilities yet set in rural surroundings. Very safe for children and lots for everyone to do as far as walking and scenery are concerned. The owner was fantastic and very helpful. The property has everything you could possibly need for a self catering break. We will definitely be back and look forward to our next visit - it really is just excellent, I cannot speak highly enough of the accommodation or the owners.

Just returned from Bullace Barn at Millhouse Green. What a find! The property is located down a long drive way just off the main road. The barn and surrounding farm and outbuildings are spotlessly tidy. The utility room is bigger than most folks kitchens! It's easier to use that door so you can dump all your boots and clutter in there. The kitchen is enormous!! There were soooooo many cupboards, I think we've out everything back in the wrong place! It was very well equipped. The bedrooms, 2 downstairs and 1 upstairs were very comfortable with lovely furnishings. There are hairdryers with DIFFUSERS! Every curly haired girls dream! I would've liked a bedroom mirror upstairs to see how diffused my hair was...! The lounge is huge. Plenty of space to chill out. There wasn't hot water all day but there was a boost button somewhere to over ride the system so it wasn't a problem and we quite enjoyed hearing a particular family member scream under the cold tap. The pool table is a bonus, we all had fun playing that, with the horses peering in to see what all the fuss was about. There's a few takeaway menus around, the Cherrydale delivered. We had the set menu for 3 and 2 but it was a bit bland and not enough. The White Heart pub and restaurant is a 10 min drive away. That was excellent food. A 2 min walk left up the main rd brings you to the Teans Penine path. Good for cyclists and dog walkers. All in all a fabulous break and wouldn't hesitate to recommend.

Had a short weekend break mid March. Warm welcome from the owner, with a nice welcome pack of goodies waiting for us. It's a very warm well set out barn with very nice bedrooms. All the rooms are finished to a high standard. It's very easy to find, just off the main road with lots if good pubs around for a nice evening meal. Would be happy to visit again. Take some carrots with you and go feed the horses there very friendly.

The photos of Bullace Barn on the web site really do not do the barn justice and therefore upon arrival our first impressions were simply amazing! Everything is so much bigger than the pictures give the impression of being, and the barn is immaculate. The large kitchen diner is great for the whole family to be together while meals are being cooked and for sitting and eating together but we also sat and played games around the table and spent most of our time together in the kitchen. The kitchen is filled with pretty much every utensil you can think of and also included little extras like dishwasher tablets, fairy liquid, dishcloths, tea towels, tin foil, cling film, salt and pepper, food bags, bin liners and even some flowers, some of which we haven't had before when we have stayed elsewhere and we have stayed in a number of different places. I had a couple of questions to ask the owner before we arrived and Jane was very helpful. The welcome basket was a very nice and thoughtful touch also. The bedrooms are very comfortable with lots of storage, there is also a hairdryer provided and hand wash in the bathrooms. The pool table is a great added bonus, this is at the centre of the Barn and has the floor to ceiling window. With the first floor being open plan you can look down over the pool table from the balcony and also watch the horses who are sometimes directly outside the window. There is also a games cupboard. The living room is very comfortable and very light with lots of light from the large arched window coming in. The only criticism would be that the television is probably not in the best position, however we spent less than a couple of hours watching the television as we were either out and and about or sat together in the kitchen so it really wasn't a problem. I would have to be really very picky if I were to criticise anything else about the place as the Barn really did exceed our expectations and in our opinion is definitely worthy of its 4 stars. The location is great with the Trans Pennine Trail literally 5 minutes walk from the Barn and there are lots of short walks also in the local area which were perfect for us with a 5 month old baby. There is lots more to explore than we had time for and I am sure we will return at some point in the future. I would have no hesitation in recommending Bullace Barn to anyone.

The photos of Bullace Barn on the web site really do not do the Barn justice and therefore upon arrival our first impressions were simply amazing! Everything is so much bigger than the pictures give the impression of being and the Barn is immaculate. The large kitchen diner is great for the whole family to be together while meals are being cooked and for sitting and eating together but we also sat and played games around the table and spent most of our time together in the kitchen. The only criticism would be that the television is probably not in the best position, however we spent less than a couple of hours watching the television as we were either out and and about or sat together in the kitchen so it really wasn't a problem. The large utility room was also great for storing all our boots, pushchair and for giving the dog a clean down after being out. The owners seem to be taking notice of people's comments and feedback as the items suggested in other reviews are now in the Barn and we could not find fault with anything at all, as there really was everything we could possibly need. Before we went I did ring and enquire as to whether there was a slow cooker, as we like to use one for when we have days out walking, I was told that there wasn't one in the Barn at that time, that said, the owner had gone out and bought one before we arrived and the same also applied with my enquiry about a high chair. The owner Jane really couldn't have been more helpful before and during our stay. The location is great with the Trans Pennine Trail literally 5 minutes walk from the Barn and there are lots of short walks also in the local area which were perfect for us with a 5 month old baby. There is lots more to explore than we had time for and I am sure we will return at some point in the future. Bullace Barn was the perfect place for our Christmas break. Everything about the barn was excellent, from the warm welcome from the owner, the welcome pack and all the other little touches that were provided. The Christmas tree and decorations made the experience magical for our 3 year old granddaughter. Would recommend this barn for all year round holidays. My family had a great Yorkshire Christmas.

Lovely accommodation, Kitchen was great and huge utility was so handy with a wet muddy dog! Lounge was massive too, and the pool table was a nice touch and helped when the weather was poor. Good walking right from your door too. Overall we were delighted with the Barn and the owner was very helpful. Highly recommended.

Fantastic spacious barn, tastefully decorated with a really big lounge area, although the TV on the wall is set at a very awkward angle for some viewers (having said that we only used TV when it was raining!). Some areas of the barn were poorly cleaned (kitchen worktops and floors were were dirty) and there were several dead daddy long-legs splattered against some walls! Although it sleeps 7, the kitchen table is nowhere big enough, could only really seat 6 max. Need a wider selection of drink glasses, there was a real odd mixture (6 brandy glasses but few if any juice glasses?). Nice touch with the welcome basket. Really need a couple of airers to dry bath towels as there is nowhere to hang your towels after showering, which is pretty daft. But, the above said, a lovely setting and ideal for all the close walks. Great utility area for cleaning dogs/taking boots off etc., before entering the kitchen area. Just a bit more attention to detail/cleanliness and we would have awarded 5 stars. Good value for money, especially if two couples staying. Very handy pub within walking distance! Would probably return.

We spent a week here in late September for the purpose of visiting relatives in the area. The barn sits on a smallholding where they keep sheep and horses, plus cats and some friendly chickens that will visit you at the door if they think you have food! The owner lives adjacent to the cottage and was there to greet us when we arrived. A very generous welcome pack was provided and the barn is huge, airy and beautifully appointed with all modern facilities including wifi. It was a pleasure to wake up in the morning and look out over the fields of grazing sheep and horses. There is plenty to do in the area. We particularly enjoyed Cannon Hall and Cawthorne village. Children will enjoy Cannon Hall Farm with its rare breeds which is a separate attraction. Holmfirth, home of Last of the Summer Wine is nearby. If you enjoy walking, the Peak District with its many picturesque reservoirs is on your doorstep and the Trans Pennine Trail runs very close to the property. The Langsett Reservoir is close by and has a lovely pub, famous for its pies, overlooking it. A bit further afield we also visited Haworth (home of the Bronte sisters) and the Keighley and Worth Valley Railway (where the original Railway Children was filmed), both very enjoyable. Also Nostell Priory (N.T.) The Elsecar Heritage Centre was rather quiet when we visited on a weekday but has steam trains running at the weekend. The nearby town of Penistone has a large Tesco for stocking up on groceries, plus a variety of other shops and a weekly market. We would thoroughly recommend Bullace Barn and would certainly stay there again.

Stayed for a week in early December with extended family & two dogs. Had a lovely time, the barn is great and the pool table area was fabulous. All the rooms are all decorated to a high standard and the bedding is very nice. The kitchen was very well equipped and the utility area is a real plus if you have dogs and have a lot of muddy boots and a pram. We had several lovely walks on the Penine Trail which is literally a very short walk away. The supermarket is close enough to have a short drive to but far away enough so you really do feel in the countryside. Key collection was very simple and the owners were very helpful. the travel cot was great and a massive help not having to bring our own. We have a few small gripes and they are only small and would defiantly not stop us from returning. These are as the utility room is so spacious it would be great if a highchair could be provided, these are cheap enough to buy (around £30) but a difficult item to take on holiday. Also the knives in the kitchen really need a sharpen (I know that sounds petty but it was difficult to cut roast meats) The main suggestion would be a blind in the kitchen (window to the floor) and the downstairs bathroom please. We do realise these windows cannot be seen from the farm house but it just felt a bit exposed. Oh just one other thing, it would be helpful if the name board sign was illuminated at night. That said its a fab barn, and we sincerely hope to return. The welcome basket was the best we've had and we stay at a minimum 3 cottages a year and have done since the turn of the millennium. Thank you.

The house was beautiful, with all luxury furnishings. The downstairs bedroom and walk in shower was a hit for my disabled father in law. The children loved seeing the sheep, horses and chickens. Even though the weather was terrible we was grateful for such a lovely house to stay in and hide from the rain.

The accommodation was quite stunning. There was plenty of parking space for our two cars, and we were made to feel at home by the owners. There were a number of tourist attractions within easy reach by car, and access to the Trans Pennine Way was only a couple of hundred yards from the property.

The barn conversion was tastefully done, and on the whole the décor and furnishings were good. The kitchen was spacious and well equipped. The lounge was enormous, and the pool table was a welcome distraction for teenagers. We enjoyed our stay enormously and would recommend it to anyone.

We were the lucky first guests at Bullace Barn. It's been decorated and kitted out to a high standard, beautiful furnishings, well equipped kitchen, comfortable and pretty bedrooms. There's a separate utility/boot room with washing machine, iron etc. We like to cook and the kitchen had pretty much everything we needed - there were a couple of suggestions we made to the owners eg a bigger frying pan, cafetiere, kitchen scales. But that was it. We were given a lovely welcome both by the owners and by their cats, who were quite keen to show us round the property ;-) There was a lovely welcome hamper on arrival with cake, cheese, bread, eggs. There's a fab little local shop about 10 mins up the road which is well stocked and also sells homemade pies and pasties. We liked best: cooking and eating together in the country style kitchen. The lovely view from the large window in the hall. Our visit to Yorkshire Sculpture Park. We liked least: the frustration of being in the upstairs lounge which is large and comfy but has no windows out on the lovely view.
