Holiday Rental Description

Holiday home
Virginia Cottage was originally a barn set on a working farm. It has been converted to provide accommodation for groups of up to 4 people. The conversion has been undertaken with great care and the cottage retains much of its original character through features such as a wood-burning stove in the lounge. The decoration is modern, yet comforting and the property backs onto a private patio from where you can absorb the rolling scenery or enjoy a spot of summertime dining. Walks are available through the farm and the cottage is located close to other walking trails. There is parking for up to 2 cars, although the local shops are 2 minutes away on foot and the local pub is 4 miles away.

Accomodation Details
All ground floor. Two bedrooms: 1 x king-size double, 1 x twin. Bathroom with bath, separate shower, basin and WC. Utility/cloakroom with belfast sink and WC. Well-equipped, modern fitted kitchen with dining area and french windows to rear patio. Comfortable sitting room with woodburner and french doors to front patio.

Area
The pretty little village of Acton Burnell is set in rolling farmland a few miles from Shrewsbury and takes its name from Robert Burnell, famous for building the lovely castle and church here in the 13th Century. Robert Burnell, who built the castle, also built Acton's Church of St Mary, which is still in use and remains one of the most complete 13th century village churches in Britain. Acton is well-placed to explore further Shropshire attractions, such as Much Wenlock, Church Stretton, Attingham Park and Shropshire's capital: Shrewsbury. There are plenty of walking and cycling opportunities, especially amongst the historic Shropshire Hills.

Region
A E Houseman once wrote that Shropshire was "the quietest place under the sun" and today the county remains something of a rural idyll, recognised as one of the least crowded and most peaceful regions in England.

Amenities
Oil central heating with woodburner in sitting room. Electric oven and hob, microwave, fridge, freezer, washer/dryer, dishwasher, TV with Freeview, DVD, video, CD player, WiFi. All fuel and power and initial supply of logs inc. in rent. Bed linen and towels inc. in rent. Cot and highchair on request. Off road parking for 2 cars. Front and rear private patios with chiminea, garden furniture and BBQ, walks available on farm. One small well-behaved dog by arrangement. Sorry, no smoking. Small shop 2 mins walk, pub (serving good food) 4 miles. Note: This property is situated on a working farm and there may be some tractor and machinery noise at certain times of the year.

We expected it to be good after reading the reviews and were not disappointed. Penney and Henry are so friendly and helpful. Cottage was spotlessly clean and cosy with a welcoming box of goodies. If you want a really good meal out, go to The Horseshoes at Dorrington. You won't find a better meal anywhere and the owner and other staff are very welcoming. Highly recommend this cottage for a break.

Virginia Cottage is beautiful, clean, comfortable and has everything you would need for a staycation.. It is part of a working farm and the surrounding countryside is spectacular. Ideally situated near Church Stretton, Ludlow and Shrewsbury with easy access to the Shropshire Hills and the A5 taking you into Wales. We enjoyed our week in this lovely cottage, despite some unsettled weather. We can definitely recommend this cottage and hope to visit again soon.

We have just stayed at Vaginia Cottage for a week, a can't put into words how amazing this place this! Very well looked after, the cottage is immaculate, spacious and well kitted out! Penny and Henry the owners made us feel very welcome, we were told if we needed anything all we had to do was ask. I was sad to leave the cottage on Friday i loved it that much. My 2 girls aged 4 and 8 and myself and my wife have fallen in love with this gorgeous cottage, and we cant wait to return. So penny and Henry thank you once again, and we hoped you liked your flowers and thank you card. See you all next year! Best wishes Richard and Kimberley Lord

Having stayed in quite a few holiday cottages over the years, I can honestly say that Virginia Cottage was one of the best, if not THE best, I have ever experienced.. It was extremely well equipped, especially with kitchen items, wonderfully warm and spotlessly clean. The layout is very nice, with the kitchen/dining area connected to the lounge so that you're able to chat and socialise even if you're the one doing the cooking. It also has a wonderful wood burner. The owners are extremely helpful and friendly, and made us feel very welcome. I would absolutely recommend Virginia Cottage for a relaxing break in pretty countryside.

The garden furniture was packed away while we where staying there this could of been done before or afterwards.. Also a shoot went on at the property and in the evening some Avent going on to be woke up by loud talking and banging on car doors this all on the last night otherwise the cottage was cosy, the roads where not very good for getting to the property.

Lovely cosy bungalow, dog friendly and well equipped.. The cottage is on a working farm in a little rural village with lovely countryside walks. Church Stretton is half an hour away and Shrewbury is less than a hour. Great for trips into Wales too.

Cottage very warm for a winter holiday good furnishings bed comfortable and outside space would be lovely in warmer weather.. Good dog walking and very convenient for visiting the attractions in the area. Only problem we had was cooker hob markings not clear took a couple of tries to work them out. Would go back if we wanted another holiday in the area. Little shop not far away for newspaper etc was a bonus to us.

Photos don’t do this cottage justice.. Far exceeded our expectations for a family Christmas. Whilst 2 adults stayed here, there were 4 of us & two little children each day. Plenty of sitting room space and the kitchen more than coped with the hectic demands of cooking a family Christmas lunch, with absolutely everything we needed to hand. The bedroom was extremely comfortable and there are quality soft furnishings throughout the cottage. 10/10 in every aspect, We thoroughly enjoyed our stay thank you.

December 2012
We had an awesome weeks rest in Virginia Cottage, the owners where fantastic people, I only wish we could have stayed longer. The cottage was beautifully appointed with everything you could want for a perfect break. I come from a farming background so the peace and quite of this farm forming a part of the village reminded me of my childhood from Cross Farm in Eastry, Kent. I would wholeheartedly recommend this cottage to anyone with or without animals.

The cottage was immaculate, and the best accommodation that we have stayed in. Sometimes, if a property accepts dogs, you do not expect the incredibly high standard which greeted us at Virginia. The owners should be extremely proud of their conversion. A 5* property at an affordable price. Would definitely look to book again in the not too distant future. Cannot praise the cottage, or the warm friendly welcome by the owners, enough.

We were so fortunate to pick the hot weather in April. It was more like being on holiday in July!
