Area Shrawardine is a quiet and secluded village situated in the beautiful Shropshire countryside, ideally located for touring this scenic county. Shrawardine is an easy drive away from the stunning Shropshire hills of the Long Mynd, Stiperstones and Caradoc, with their exceptional walking, biking and horse riding opportunities. Shrawardine is home to the fascinating ruins of a 13th Century Norman castle with impressive views. Just six miles away the medieval city of Shrewsbury, offering a choice of shops, pubs and restaurants, a new theatre, timber-framed black-and-white buildings, riverside walks, an abbey and a castle, is waiting to be explored. Also close to Shrawardine are Church Stretton, Ludlow, the Severn Valley Railway and the Ironbridge Gorge museums.
Region A E Houseman once wrote that Shropshire was "the quietest place under the sun" and today the county remains something of a rural idyll, recognised as one of the least crowded and most peaceful regions in England.

So much to do in the local area, ideal place to explore the welsh borders and lovely walks in the locality.

The cottage was exceptionally well equipped.. All the cooking utensils and dishes you could ever need were available, plus some basic condiments and tea/coffee etc which was really helpful on the first day. There were also a few toilet rolls provided.
We were able to let our dogs use the garden, and it was relatively dog proof, they certainly couldn’t get to the road which gave us peace of mind.
The cottage is in a tiny village without shops or a pub, so you do need to drive anywhere you want to go.
There was a useful information pack in the house, plus local ordinance survey maps. Some of the information may need updating slightly though.
As there’s only one key for the house, it would have been useful to have a key safe outside, to leave the key for others in case you were going out separately.
We had a lovely stay at this cottage and would definitely return!

The only thing that was of concern was the lock on the front door.. It needed skilful jiggling to get it to lock and unlock properly.
Otherwise, a delightful cottage, very comfortable, and well-equipped.
If only the weather had been good. We did continue to go walking in between, and sometimes during showers, though!

Lovely cottage in a good situation.. The kitchen/diner and living room are spacious and well provisioned The wetroom in the downstairs bedroom was wonderful. But it was a bit of a stretch to call it a six bed holiday cottage. The 6th bed is a pull out trundle and takes up nearly all the floor space in the 3rd bedroom. Also there is a serious trip hazard in the main bedroom (a beam across the floor).
Ms Otley, July 2020

THE HOUSE HAS BEEN RENOVATED TO A VERY HIGH STANDARD.. MR WORDIE, THE OWNER, WAS EXTREMELY FRIENDLY AND ON-HAND IF REQUIRED BUT NOT INTRUSIVELY SO. THE PLACE IS SO QUIET IT MAKES YOUR EARS HURT! THE HORSE AND MABEL THE DOG WERE GREAT FUN. A FOOTBAL GREEN AND GOALS ARE WITHIN A 3OSECOND WALK. LOVELY WALKS ALONG THE RIVER SEVERN AND ALONG A DISUSED RAILWAY TRACK ARE WITHIN A 5 MINUTE STROLL. A CONVENIENT LOCATION FOR WALKS UP THE MYND OR INTO ANCIENT SHREWSBURY OR IRONBRIDGE MUSEUMS MAKE THIS AN EXCELLENT BASE TO STAY.
Mrs Wood, July 2020

The Coach House is an extremely comfortable and thoughtfully designed and presented place to stay, and in a delightful village in a beautiful area.. The accommodation exceeds expectations - being more spacious and generally high spec than the photos suggest - and has everything we might have thought we’d ever need on a holiday.

The change in check in time could have been communicated more clearly from Sykes rather than just updated in the key collection reminder email as could have been missed.. Very lovely cottage, as described. The property in the main was clean although some left over pieces of mess under the sofa. Well appointed with everything we needed for a comfortable and enjoyable stay. Hosts on hand if we needed anything and able to give advice on local walks. Very dog friendly and lots of nearby walks and places to go for us all to enjoy our staycation.

Lovely Holiday Home - From Home Character Cottage. Would suit everyone, as it had a ground floor bedroom with en suite shower room. Beautifully restored from being an old coaching house , features retained to enhance. Exceptionally warm with constant hot water and heating if required. We were luck with the weeks weather and enjoyed our day out visits to Shrewsbury, Telford and Oswestry etc, Very peaceful and tranquil location away from main roads, lots of bird variety and good walks. Short walk to the Severn River, passing beautiful cottages and houses along the way. Field within 200 yards to exercise doggies was a bonus for our two dogs. All in all a most wonderful holiday accommodation requiring nothing other than yourselves. The owners who live adjacent should be proud of the standard and were most helpful. Fresh eggs and milk on arrival was a very nice bonus.

This lovely old coach house was just perfect for our weekend away.. It felt so welcoming and cosy. The kitchen had everything we needed, including fresh cold water and ice from the fridge, which was great for a very warm weekend! Little added extras like eggs, milk and magazines were lovely as well. Other than a few other houses, farms and a church, there's nothing else close by which made it so peaceful and tranquil. There is a field a stone's throw away which the kids loved going to as it had football goals! And the dog loved being let loose too! There were plenty of places to visit nearby as well. All in all, a fantastic weekend.

Situated down a quiet country lane yet easy to access the A5 to explore further in to the county or Wales - Powys Castle is a wonderful place to soak up history and nature and just a 30 minute drive.
The cottage is very well equipped, very clean and comfortable - there are many ways to enjoy the Old Coach House both inside and out.
There are quiet country lanes and bridleways to explore and miles of lovely scenery. It is a place you will want to return as we intend to!

The photos don’t do this cottage justice, it’s absolutely stunning and in a beautiful location at the end of a quiet lane.. It had everything we could possibly need and the owners were wonderful. It’s far enough away from the main road so it’s lovely and quiet but near enough that it doesn’t take too long to drive. Great location for lots of interesting places nearby.

The Old Coach House gave us a tranquil and extremely comfortable base for our short break.. Situated extremely close to some fantastic walking routes it was a cosy place to return to each evening with it’s log burner. Extremely well equipped and dog friendly, with a lovely sunny enclosed garden we were able to relax in the quiet evenings with a glass of wine underneath the vine that covered the south facing wall. Shrawardine is a beautiful little village, and the fact that the cottage was tucked up a quiet no-through road made it even more peaceful. Hospitable hosts, available for any issues (there weren’t any) - but available it needed.

The cottage was perfectly located only a few miles from the A5, with access to many Shropshire market towns whilst being situated in a quiet rural hamlet with heaps of dog walks from the door. My husband and I stayed in this cottage for a week in late September 2013.
This is the perfect cottage to relax and chill out.
It is down a quiet country lane, but only a short distance from the A5 main road, gateway to all Shropshire has to offer.
It is very well equiped, the kitchen is awsome, bedrooms bright and airy, comfortable beds. plenty of fresh towels, large lounge. We were lucky enough to have nice warm weather, so sat out on the patio overlooking the well the kept garden, had a visit from the resident chickens each day, so sweet.
It would accommodate a family of 6 quiet comfortably.
Very warm welcome from the owners, who kindly left eggs, milk, fruit etc for us. Thank you much appreciated
Amazing.
We will definately go back, the sooner the better.

August 2013
Cottage is very comfortable, well equipped and very roomy with everything that you ought to need.We were lucky enough to have splendid weather and so able to sit outside in the sunshine. You have to be careful that the chickens don't come into the house though! The location means lots of interesting places are not very far away (various National Trust places and interesting Market towns etc). The owner was very helpful in suggesting places to go to eat - and the portions you get tend to be 'huge'. I'd imagine the walking and cycling from the cottage are great as it is flat there - but that was something that we were unable to do this time. I'd love to go here again. It was a real bonus having a bedroom downstairs with its own shower room - which is very suitable for an older or disabled person. .

April 2013
We spent a week in this cottage with our daughter, son in law and twelve month old granddaughter. We could not have wished for a more comfortable or well equipped cottage.
The owner lives only yards away and we knew we could call on him if we needed anything but did not feel observed. Being SHROPSHIRE born and bred we knew the countryside around the cottage but for anyone new to the delights of Shropshire there are lots of places to explore. Our week was only marred by the weather being so cold. It would be a lovely place to go in the summertime.

We stayed in Sykes cottage over Christmas 2012. The interior ofthe property was clean, cosy and fitted out to a high standard. I had been nervous about the prospect of cooking a Christmas dinner in a "holiday home". I need not have been concerned - the kitchen has double oven and large american style fridge freezer.
The living room was cosy, with log burner belting out the heat required at this time of year.
The accomodation is in a rural setting but only 5 miles from Shrewsbury, which is great for shopping and restaurants.
We had a great stay, only negative was a loss of electricity due to fuse blowing and it not being re-settable from cottage, only from main house. However, owners sorted this out quickly.

We rented the cottage for a week in January in order to be close to family that live nearby, we had a fabulous stay! The cottage is incredibly well equipped, tastefully decorated and a great location just ouside of Shrewbury, it also offers exceptionally good value for money for the standard of accommodation offered. We loved the single mattresses/duvets in the master bedroom ensuring we slept very well. The kitchen/dining room is very spacious and we loved entertaining there. Jamie was at all times very helpful and friendly. The dogs were very comfortable and loved their walks in the field just down the road, as well as the Quarry. Perhaps a small area in the garden safe for the dogs to go out for their last wee of the evening, would be the only small improvement we can suggest.

January 2013
We stayed at this property over Christmas 2012. The kitchen was incredibly well-equipped. The owners had placed a decorated Christmas tree with lights in the lounge and made it a real home from home. We were given access to logs for the wood burning stove and had chestnuts roasting in there. It was a beautiful, tasteful conversion that provided a great Christmas break, away from it all.
Mrs Compobassi
December 2012
The accommodation was warm and comfortable, all finished to a high standard and well kept. The area is perfect for anyone wanting a quiet relaxing break without feeling isolated. Plenty of good walks to take the dogs on. The countryside was turned into a winter wonderland due to the heavy frost we had most of the week, making a perfect atmosphere for our pre Christmas stay. The owners were helpful and welcoming, ensuring that any needs we had during our stay were met, without being intrusive.

Really enjoyed the stay at this cottage. It has the cottage charm with all the mod cons and home comforts,. Lovely quiet village setting and the bonus of nearby stables - my little boy had a fantastic time feeding the horse every day and there were toys for his age group which was the cherry on the cake (if the kids are having a good time, makes it so much easier for mum and dad).
The cottage owners were great really pleasant family and very helpful (without being intrusive). Finally thought the geographical location was great to explore shropshire - shewsbury was within an easy distance (with a car). Also lots of great nearby national trust and countryside.

We have used numerous other holiday cottage companies in the past and stumbled across this one, it is obvious how you rate a property is of a higher standard as we chose this cottage on what rating we usually would chose and this cottage was far and above superior than we have used in the past. The owners of the property and yourselves have done a great job.
