Holiday Rental Description

Holiday home
The Old Dairy, as its name suggests, was originally built as part of a dairy house. It has been sympathetically restored to offer accommodation for 4 people, retaining much of its original character through features such as exposed beams and the original cattle stall, which now partitions the lounge from the dining room. The accommodation is arranged across one level and the property has a rear patio, from which to enjoy a spot of outdoor-dining. Visitors also get shared use of a games room, which includes a snooker table and a netted trampoline. There is plenty of parking and the local amenities are merely a stroll away. Please note that the property is for holiday lets only and does not accept worker bookings

Accomodation Details
All ground floor. Three bedrooms: 1 x double, 1 x single, 1 x single with en-suite shower, basin & WC. Bathroom with bath with shower over, basin & WC. Well-equipped fitted kitchen with exposed beams leading to open plan dining area and sitting area with woodburner, stone flagged flooring & exposed beams throughout.

Area
Church Stretton's glorious setting in a narrow valley earned it the name 'Little Switzerland' from the Victorians who tried to establish it as a spa. It has some of the most dramatic and spectacular hills in the British Isles; Long Mynd guards the West and the escarpment of Wenlock Edge lies to the East. Caer Caradoc, formed by volcanic ash and lava over 560 million years ago, once had an Iron Age hill-fort on its summit. The geology of the area is intriguing and has earned the hills acclaim as a Site of Special Scientific Interest as well as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Ragleth Hill allows you to take in stunning 360 degree views, taking in the Long Mynd, Caer Caradoc, the Lawley, Wenlock Edge and the Clee Hills. Church Stretton also draws visitors for its famous 18-hole golf course, which claims to be the highest in England.

Region
A E Houseman once wrote that Shropshire was "the quietest place under the sun" and today the county remains something of a rural idyll, recognised as one of the least crowded and most peaceful regions in England.

Old Dairy was a lovely looking holiday cottage with lots of character and comfortable furniture especially the beds. The location was ideal as it was near many interesting little towns and delightful walks. We were however disappointed as its facilities were not as good as all the other 4 rated cottages we have stayed in eg microwave with very faint digital display/ poor ensuite shower and no antiviral surface cleaner in these covid times, to list just a few. It felt like the cottage had been set up a number of years ago then left to its own devices with nobody checking info book/ equipment etc.

There is nothing we can think of to improve the Old Dairy.. It was beaitiful and we were gutted to leave. The Mary Poppins of holiday homes, Practically perfect in every way. Oh and the play barn was epic!!

After nearly 4 1/2 hours on the road with 2 small children, it was so nice to reach our destination, away from the rat race and our jobs as key workers.. When we arrived, the place was spotless and smelt so clean. We have been to other types of accommodation, which have been ok, but The Old Dairy exceeded our expectations. The Old Dairy provides much needed respite and the cake went down very well. The play barn was a fantastic for 2 active children, who were happy to bounce on the trampoline. Beautiful area, and so peaceful. Our children slept so well, much better than at home. The area is beautiful and fantastic for walking. We can't wait to book again and will hopefully book the granary too, for cousins and grandparents. Lots of happy memories made here. Thank you, Jeanette, Nick and Tom for such a great holiday. We will be back.

We had an amazing stay at the Old Dairy.. First of all the location was perfect for us. The cottage is in a quiet small village but is only a few minutes away from Shrewsbury with a large Sainsbury's and the wonderful Church Stretton. The cottage is beautifully decorated and is ideal for a family stay with all the equipment that you would want. We arrived to find flowers and cake as well as a wonderfully clean cottage. The bed linen was great and the beds were very comfortable. We felt very welcome and immediately relaxed knowing that we were safe and secure (in these days of Covid-19 this is very important). We absolutely loved the games barn and spent hours playing badminton. As cat lovers, we really appreciated the warm welcome and cuddles from the farm cats Jet and Benny. All in all this was one of our best cottages holidays and I would thoroughly recommend staying here.

A perfect and beautifully presented holiday property.. It was lovely to arrive to find a fire lit, the lights on and a tray set for tea with a home made cake. It was very welcoming. This is a spacious and comfortable place to stay and we hope to return.

Despite the disappointing weather, all of us thoroughly enjoyed our week at the Old Dairy.. Our final day was dry with a beautiful blue sky - but quite frosty. The log burner rose to the occasion and kept us all warm and cosy regardless of the dipping outdoor temperatures. Requests already to return there in spring or summer. A lovely place in an interesting area with owners at hand but never getting in your way - just the way we like it!

Great location to visit Shropshire. Wonderful work on this old building which gives a terrific character to the cottage. Cosy evenings near the wood burner and good nights in the comfortable beds. Wished we could have stayed longer. Thanks to the owners for a warm welcome.

It was a very cosy cottage on a very friendly farm. It was fascinating being able to see pictures of what the place looked like before the conversion and the owners have done a fantastic job! All in all, a very good base for exploring the area.

The Old Dairy conversion was a very open plan cottage on one floor. Travelling with my elderly mother it suited us as we had 2 bedrooms with our own bathrooms. The directions to get there were easy to follow.the location of this property was wonderful for visiting most of the attractions in Shropshire The owner was welcoming and knowledgable and we had a tasty home made cake ,fresh flowers and tea/ coffe and milk on our arrival .the gardens surrounding the property were beautiful and the scent from the flowers were intoxicating.plenty of pubs in the area for meals. I would recommend this property to people who want to go to the countryside and enjoy a home from home atmosphere in a well equipped property. The cats were adorable!

The cottage was in a great location and was cosy and warm. The play barn was thoroughly enjoyed by our two grandsons and a bonus in wet weather. The owner was helpful and friendly, even letting us help with feeding the cattle. Our grandsons thought this experience was awesome!

Our second visit, so easy to find and really good for getting to lots of places both in England and Wales! Very quiet, non intrusive owners who are happy to help with knowledge of where to go and how to get there. The barn is great for kids, plus some larger kids too! We intend to return again.

Just had the most fantastic week in Shropshire - fantastic weather , recent flooding had no impact on the cottage or immediate area. this is our 7th visit to this cottage which I think says it all about the standard of accommodation. The Old Dairy (and adjoining slightly larger Granary) have been beautifully converted into comfortable and practical accommodation of a high standard with furnishings that suit the dwellings. the log burner is incredibly effective in heating the cottage and lovely to relax by after a day out . the layout of the Old Dairy is very practical if you have young children - you can keep an eye on them in the sitting area from the kitchen. this year another bedroom (with ensuite) was added which is great for older and/or different sex children. We have stayed in many cottages, hotels and B&Bs since having children and this is by far the best in terms of quality. the owners , who live on the farm, are incredibly friendly and helpful, they always leave fresh flowers and home made cake in the cottage and some basic essentials such as tea bags to get you going. they strike that rare balance which we have never found elsewhere of being helpful and friendly when needed but unobtrusive if you just want to be left to get on with your holiday. they genuinely want guests to enjoy their holiday . our boys love the play barn with its football goal and balls, snooker table, trampoline, bowling area, cricket nets and bats, badminton/volley ball net with cocks ,racquets and balls, ride on tractors for toddlers.......and if that doesn't do it for you there are very friendly cats and a dog to play with and in the past the boys have enjoyed feeding the cattle. It has suited us from when the children were 4 and 5 and as teenagers now they still love going. its also a great place to be based - we have walked the hills above Church Stretton as well as walking up the Wrekin and the Lawley,, visited the Ironbridge museums (buy a family passport ticket - great value ), been to the welsh coast, the castle at Ludlow, shopped in Shrewsbury and this year had a great day out at RAF Cosford (free entry). we couldn't recommend it more highly

Lovely warm property, close to main roads but far enough away from road noise. Good place for getting to lots of places. Warm welcome from owners who were there if needed, but not intrusive. We had a really lovely time and hope to go back very soon.

The cottage was spotlessly clean, not even a cobweb to be seen. The log burner was set and ready to be lit. I would recommend this place to anyone, and will be going back again.

We would greatly recommend a stay in this beautifully furnished cosy Old Dairy in Shropshire. After travelling it is great to arrive to find fresh flowers, a homemade cake and a log fire waiting. The cottage is in a a very quiet and restful setting with lots of good varied walks and good pubs and restaurants nearby. Shrewbury is close, as it the lovely town of Church Stretton, and lots of National Trust land, including the Long Mynd and also the Carding Mill valley which has a great National Trust tea room. The accomodation includes a good kitchen, dining area, lounge and two bedrooms and a bathroom all of which are well appointed. The owners live on the farm next door and are exceptionally friendly and helpful

A lovely welcome awaited with tea/coffee/sugar/milk/flowers, and best of all - home made cake! The rustic charm of the cottage and the decor just made it feel so relaxing, and having Teeny Bop the cat to stay was such a bonus. She's getting older and not having to put her to the cattery was great! She had a great time exploring the cottage and loved the little chair by the back door! The cottage is well situated to allow travel to many interesting places, and even a few trips into Wales. Loved the scenery; the location; the family couldn't be nicer, and the play barn was great - even for us older kids! We will definitely be back as there's still so much to see on the doorstep. A week was no where enough!
Mrs Tree
August 2012
It was a very quiet, rural location which was lovely and a unique building.
Mrs Paris
July 2012
The best thing in my case is that they allowed my house cat Teeny Bop to visit too! Added to that there is so much to see and do on the doorstep! A week wasn't enough time to see and do all we wanted to do, so I'd love to go back next year. The family couldn't be nicer in regards to giving you space or chatting in the passing. We loved it!

July 2012
The cottage on first view seems impressive, on closer inspection the property is covered in cobwebs these are not newly spun ones but instead old as they are covered in thick layers of dust. The serving dishes and the chopping board when removed from the cupboard were covered in cobwebs and had dead insects in them. The play barn and recycling area were infested with large rats entirely unsanitary and inappropriate for children. We live on a large working farm ourselves and know what to expect from a farm but this goes way beyond farm life, the rats seemed undisturbed by humans. There was hardened aged cow dung on the floor of the play barn this could've easily been power washed off prior to this being converted into a play area for children but attention to detail was obviously not a high priority! The cottage itself was in a great location and had it had a thorough regular clean and a new sofa it would have been quite beautiful!
Mrs Wilkinson

The Old Dairy is a fantastic country holiday retreat. You can walk for miles and miles without even getting in your car,,, our dogs loved it. The cottage itself is extremely comfortable, warm and inviting. We spent our days walking our dogs, coming back, lighting the fire, making dinner and cozying up in front of the fire and a DVD. It was our idea of heaven for our Xmas break. No stress and wonderful hosts,

The cottage is located in between Shrewsbury and Church Stretton in a lovely rural area. We loved the way the roads in Shropshire were so quiet. The cottage is really well-equipped and had everything we needed. The games barn is just fab, our boys loved it and would have spent all their time there. Overall a great holiday with great accommodation.

left very much alone by owners, just how we like it. nice arrival pack, house clean and well stocked with equipment. cottage is a barn conversion with some nice features created from the original structure giving the place a lovely specious feeling. only gripes are the ancient sofa which was on its last legs and the storage heaters are not very warming, ok for us but a bit cold for our daughter who was only 7 months at the time.

RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE OF THE COUNTRYSIDE ON ARRIVAL WE WERE MET BY THE OWNER WHO COULDN'T DO ENOUGH TO WELCOME US. WITH TWO YOUNG KIDS THE BARN WAS A SAVIOUR CONSIDERING THE WEATHER WAS NOT THAT GOOD DURING THE WEEK. THEY WOULD HAVE STAYED IN THERE THE WHOLE WEEK IF WE LET THEM. THE FARMER ALSO SHOWED THE KIDS AROUND THE ANIMALS WHICH ADDED TO THEIR ENJOYMENT. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
