Location amazing.. The view from the garden is mesmerising. The only negative is the decor is a little "grandma friendly", but that doesn't mean it wasnt comfortable, just not our taste.

Really enjoyed staying in this cottage.. Very comfortable, great views from the house and quiet. Our dog loved the garden. Good location for hill walking - there's a nice walking loop behind the house that is good for an evening stroll. The lanes are good for cycling too - so quiet and not too hilly most of the time, but if you go up Wooler Common or take Sustrans route 68 out of Wooler you're in for some serious hill climbing.

Booked Akeld Cottage last minute as a 'firework free' zone for our two dogs and couldn't have picked a better cottage/location.. Warm and welcoming with fresh flowers and welcome pack. The garden was particularly great, very dog friendly, completely secure. The views from the cottage are amazing, would love to visit in summer.

Lovely cottage in a beautiful setting .. Fantastic welcome gift . Home from home. What more can I say apart from my other half would like to live there permanently. Also it’s our second year we have been and are thinking about returning next year. The owners Mr and Mrs Jeffreys are very accommodating. I couldn’t wish for more .

Very helpful owner who sorted a minor issue with hot water.. Free horse ride was great. Cottage had good garden and lovely views but at the front where the entrance and car space was is influenced by other cottage owners. Thus, as the snow melted various large broken plastic plant pots marking lawn plots were unattractive and made driving in and out of a parking place an issue as it meant avoiding these unattractive 'scrap yard' pots. Maybe without the snow they look less of a mess. Ariel view would show the picture as does looking down from the hills.

This cottage has beautiful views and great garden.. The rooms and beds are comfortable and the owner's welcome pack was appreciated. If 6 people are staying here then 1 toilet in the bathroom can be tricky and the kitchen is on the small side. It would also be nice to have more local information available with maybe a few games and books for the children. Considering the weather was cold we were always warm and cosy, so thank you for a welcome break in this beautiful part of the North.

Lovely well presented cottage, the owner left us several lovely items in the welcome pack.. The property was excellent for our dogs with a lovely fenced garden with panoramic views down the valley. In a lovely location close to all the amenities in Wooler, yet on the edge of the beautiful Cheviot hills. We had a delightful drive over to Bamburgh with some magnificent scenery, and hardly another car on the road.

I am almost reluctant to review this beautiful cottage as you may fill it up and next time I want to go it will be fully booked. The cottage is spacious and well equipped with a wonderful garden and views out over the countryside. Just around the corner you can access public footpaths to take you further into the area. There is a Co-Op open 7-11 everyday in Wooler and lots of other places to eat a short drive away. This is a great base for accessing the area with many popular attractions within a 30 minute drive - many just 10 minutes away. We took advantage of the free horse riding on offer and were made to feel very welcome there too. An excellent find at a great price. I loved it!

This was our second time at Akeld Cottage, I love the elegant sitting room, objets d'art and comfortable furniture. Also the efficient central heating and hot water supply; the superbly laundered and ironed bed linen; the dog friendly garden (a must); the view; the lovely neighbours and the nearby town..I could go on. I'll visit again for sure.

Liked the peace and quiet of Northumberland. The cottage is in a lovely spot, with a pleasant outlook. The garden is secure and secluded and perfect for a dog. Wooler is handy for supplies and the coast is a 30 minute drive giving access to sandy beaches which are also perfect for dog walking. Highly recommended for a perfect holiday.

Our week in this cottage was fantastic. Close to walks in the Cheviot Hills, to castles on the coast and to lovely driving on the country roads, this was a favourite. We arrived to find a welcome pack in the fridge and the heating was on, so coming in from the cold to this little cottage with food and wine provided was just magic! We had a night at The Red Lion at Milfield Village and found the food was superior to any pub food we have eaten. This cottage and this area thoroughly recommended.

The cottage was beautiful and catered for every need. We especially liked the garden which was safe for our dog. The view across the garden to the hills was wonderful as was the peace and tranquillity of the area. There were such lovely places to visit not far away too.

Lots of castles very close by and the garden was very safe for dogs and children. The cottage was very warm - heating was amazing. We appreciated the service package of milk, eggs and butter etc.

We love this cottage - the location is perfect for exploring the beautiful countryside around Wooler and is within easy travelling distance of the glorious Northumberland coastline. The cottage itself is warm and comfortable and copes with our family needs well. The dogs love the secure garden, and it is so nice to be able to let them run around and run off excess energy whilst looking at the wonderful views. The welcome pack of food makes breakfast on the first day here a very easy meal, and having central heating for our autumn stay is a real boon. Our daughter spends most of her holiday riding at the owner's stables 'Kimmerston'.

Akeld Cottage is superb value for money; comfortable, unpretentious and in a wonderful location. The property was very clean, well stocked, and the gifts of a welcome pack and also a complimentary riding lesson were a wonderful bonus. Being in the scenic foothills of the Cheviots was great for walking, and the location was also an ideal base for travelling to the main Northumberland attractions, and also Scotland. Highly recommended for a wonderful holiday.

This was our first trip to Northumberland, and after an extensive search for self-catering holiday cottages, we settled upon Akeld Cottage, and are very glad we did. It is located in the very scenic foothills of the Cheviots, which are ideal for walking into the stunning Northumberland National Park - which is full of wild- and bird-life. The cottage is a short drive from Wooler, where there is a very convenient Co-op store. It also makes for a perfect base to see some of the main Northumberland sites - Lindisfarne and the Farne Islands are within easy driving distance, and Edinburgh is just over 50 miles away. The cottage itself is well proportioned, well furnished and stocked, comfortable and unpretentious. The decor and furnishings are not the height of luxury, but they suit the property well, and are just what you need for a comfortable base. The garden is very well maintained and has a wonderful area for eating outside. It is part of a small complex of cottages, and the neighbours were all very friendly, and it was very quiet and peaceful. There is a great master bedroom with double bed, a twin room, and a room with a bunk bed, all of which slept three adults comfortably. There is only one bathroom and the shower is not that powerful, but it does the job, and with a bit of negotiation it is easy enough for a family to work out the morning shower run! Lastly, we were greeted with a generous welcome pack, and also given an amazing deal at the owner's horse riding centre, which is also highly recommended (Kimmerston Horse Riding Centre). We could not have asked for more from our holiday rental, and this was excellent value for money. Highly recommended.
