Area Situated close to Castle Bolton, Leyburn and the famous Aysgarth Falls is the picturesque Dales village of Redmire. Located along the Wensleydale Railway, which runs various steam trains during the summer, the settlement is also within easy reach of Castle Bolton, one of the best preserved medieval castles in Yorkshire and dating back to 1378. Much of the construction, composed of towers set around a rectangular courtyard, survived orders to destroy the famous castles of Yorkshire issued by Parliament during the Civil War. Carperby is close by too, and was an important centre for the Quaker movement and the largest building today is the classically styled Friends Meeting House, which overlooks the market cross and village green. Redmire itself is home to a traditional pub, which serves good food whilst there is an excellent range of amenities, shops and attractions in the nearby market town of Leyburn.
Region From heather-clad moors and limestone scars, to market towns and the steady pace of country life - the sublime Dales await you! Where else in Britain is it as satisfying to sit and do nothing as it is to explore the numerous pursuits on offer?

What an amazing find. Stayed for 3 nights with our dog. Great property with everything you need and lots of little extras. The owner is very responsive, we had minor problem with sky box and had an immediate response. Walks straight from the door in lovely quiet environment . Definitely want to return.

Wonderful comfortable clean cottage with everything supplied plus welcoming wine and flowers - a lovely touch.. The surroundings were stunning with a lovely peaceful garden and great walks.
The only minus point was the spiral staircase - a bit dodgy for oldies like us! - but once up there you will love the comfy bed, huge bath and lovely views.
Will definitely recommend.

The positive description of this property and its surroundings as posted by Sykes was extremely accurate, and so we were delighted to find everything as expected (no surprising downsides! !). All in all, an excellent service - many thanks to Sykes & Ruth (the property's owner).

The Bothy is the best cottage we have stayed in.. Beautiful countryside with the river Ure as the perfect backdrop.
The village of Redmire is a lovely place, the village pub, the Bolton Arms is as cosy and inviting as you would expect.
The planned route walks are in abundance. WE WILL BE BACK!!!!!

The Bothy is fantastic and very comfortable within a huge wooded garden.. This area was invaluable for allowing our dog off the lead and away for dogs passing on the public footpath and sheep in the neighbouring fields. The Bothy is in a beautiful area with multiple walking opportunities. Being able to walk to Bolton Castle, down to the River Ure and to catch the steam train from Redmire was wonderful. We would definitely love to go back to The Bothy.

The Bothy was a lovely property, very comfortable and well kept.. It was at the end of a very quiet lane and so very peaceful. The owner was very helpful especially as we arrived in the dark and initially couldn't find the property (we were only 20 metres away but couldn't see it in the pitch black and hidden behind the trees). The scenery was beautiful and there are acouple of nice walks straight out of the back door. The village pub was very friendly and the food was good. Lovely places to visit, Leyburn and Hawes in particular and the drive down through Wharfedale to Grassington was spectacular and Grassington well worth a visit. For anyone who wants a peaceful holiday, it's ideal. The only drawback was as that the public footpath goes through the back garden (and it's not fully enclosed) so we had to accompany our dog outside when she needed to go out and she would wake us up early barking at other walkers using the path first thing - no lie-ins for us

The situation of the Bothy is just great.. Amazing views, close to al walks, a river, the falls and also to Leyburn for provisions. This is without doubt the best holiday location in North Yorkshire, and we have holidayed all over this area. We would like to come back next year!

The Bothy was brilliant-- a beautiful property in a secluded, scenic location.. The house sits at the end of a road, overlooking waterfalls, with an orchard and views of Bolton Castle. It was very clean and comfortable. An excellent holiday choice!

Fantastic place in rural environment.. The information about the "enclosed" garden should be more precise, cause dogs could easily sneak out because of no or not closable gates.

The location was superb and we particularly enjoyed the lack of telephone access.. The DVD player wasn't good and it packed up in the middle of a film but we didn't really need it, as it was great to be able to sit and read. Shower leaked but this was towards the end of the season and it probably needs some routine maintenance. However, we noticed that others had mentioned this in the visitors' book earlier in the year. Due to the leak being above the switch box and lighting switches, this may constitute a fire hazard. On two occasions the mains circuit tripped and had to be re-set.
We couldn't understand why some people made negative comments in the visitors book, as we were comfortable and enjoyed the house and the location. We would like to stay there again, though hopefully the above electrical problem will have been addressed . We did agree that a folder with all the information about the property and labelled keys would have helped on arrival, but we soon found out most of what we needed.

What a spot! Beautiful. We walked from the cottage most days which was great.
The cottage is perfect. Comfortably warm (certainly no need for a log burner) with constant hot water. Every utensil one could possibly need in the kitchen. All was spotlessly clean throughout. Beds were very comfortable with cotton sheets etc., ( I hate poly) and decent quality towels.
We didn't find the public right of way a nuisance, it was very nice to pass the time of day with the folk walking by.
We will return and also pass this gem on to family and friends.

A beautfiul building. Larger than expected. Very cosy. Good layout. Dog-friendly.
Good location for walking. Private other than walkers passing. A lovely relaxing few days away.
Beautiful grounds. Unfortunately with public footpaths running through it. The owners are attempting to make one side private though with a hedge planting. I would suggest a fence all the way around to create an enclosed private garden with a bbq area. It was cold whilst we were there and so didn't require the outside space. The property was heated well but I think a log burner would be a lovely added feature.
The kitchen was well equipped. It lacked a dishwasher and I would personally have preferred this to the washing machine. I think it would also keep it cleaner too as I found a lot of the kitchen items dirty and had to be washed before they could be used. The kitchen cupboards also needed cleaning out. The teaspoons were very tea-stained and needed replacing. The kitchen was well stocked though with utensils, oven-gloves, etc. It was nice to find kitchen roll, cling film, etc supplied. The clocks were either set to the wrong time or not working.
The entrance was a good size and a very good usable space, especially with a dog. It was a great area to use when coming in with muddy feet from a long walk. This area would definitely benefit from a bench or other seating for changing footwear. The drying cupboard was brilliant for wet clothes.
All of the windows and mirrors needed cleaning. There were also some cobwebs in places such as light fittings.
The bed was comfortable. It was nice to find tissues provided and such things as hand soap and bubble bath. The property always smelt good too with air freshners in every room.
The information leaflets could have been better. There were piles of the same leaflets. I would reduce these to one or two of each and add information such as walks and maps.
There was a good selection of games and books. I donated a jigsaw :)
The lounge area had a cream carpet which wasn't too practical. Luckily I had taken spare ground sheets and so could protect them.
Overall, we had a very enjoyable stay and would recommend.
