Area
The village of Cowling sits in the Pennine Hills, just seven miles from the market town of Skipton. A thriving village, built along a main high street with stone-built, terraced houses set alongside the mills of a bygone age. The nearby Quaker village of Lothersdale was, at one time, home to Charlotte Bronte who modelled Gateshead Hall in Jane Eyre on Stone Gappe House where she was governess. Today many visitors passing through the village are walkers, on their way along the Pennine Way on the stretch from Cowling to Gargrave. There's the large retail outlet of Boundary Mills, just six miles away, a must for lovers of shoping, and Skipton, known as 'The Gateway to the Dales' is nearby. Skipton is a lovely old market town with much to interest the enthusiastic visitor, boasting an ancient castle open to the public, a beautiful old parish church and a colourful market occupying the cobbled setts each side of the high street.

Region
From heather-clad moors and limestone scars, to market towns and the steady pace of country life - the sublime Dales await you! Where else in Britain is it as satisfying to sit and do nothing as it is to explore the numerous pursuits on offer?

We had a great stay at Baywood Cottage which is a surprisingly spacious cottage with good size rooms and a very spacious hall. It's very well equipped and well maintained place to stay to visit this part of the Dales. The icing on the cake though is the location and the views, with good walks from the cottage as well.

Baywood cottage is one of the most comfortable cottages we have stayed in. It was very well equipped & many tasty goodies were supplied along with beautiful flowers in the lounge & our bedroom. Kath & Mark were lovely hosts & were there if you needed them but not at all intrusive. We thought everything about the cottage was exceptional. It was so comfy (especially the huge bed!) & the views were amazing. If we visit that part of Yorkshire again we would definitely want to return to Baywood Cottage.

This is a very nice cottage. Well equipped kitchen, plenty of utensils and crockery. The super king bed is very comfy, just what’s needed after a days walking. Mark and Kath left us some eggs, along with some cakes, biscuits, tea, coffee, sugar and milk, so a nice welcome. We also had a further 6 eggs during the week from their own chickens so very fresh. The cottage has lovely views and you can watch the sunset from the living room window. Large bathroom with large shower cubicle. The weather was lovely so no need for us to use the wood burner. There are plenty of walks around the area and a nice one was directly from the cottage up to the Pinnacle and Tower on the hill behind. Very quiet and peaceful. Would definitely recommend.

We've just returned from Baywood Cottage after a lovely relaxing week. The cottage is spacious, comfortable and spotless, and is equipped with everything you could need. The owners, Kath and Mark, are so friendly and helpful. It's in a fantastic spot, a bit higher up than Cowling itself, with beautiful views from every window. Kath's horses are outside your bedroom window, and there are fantastic sunsets to be seen from the lounge window. It's very peaceful - not a sound at night and lovely comfortable beds. You can also watch the wildlife - we saw a little owl and a hare. The Dog & Gun pub is about a mile away, with a great menu and reasonable prices. If you're looking for a peaceful and relaxing week, this is definitely it!

The owners of Baywood Cottage were most welcoming, showed us around and the workings of everything.. There was fresh eggs and milk and fresh flowers which was a lovely touch. The cottage was spotless and had everything needed. There are beautiful views from every window and was nice seeing the hens wandering around. Will definitely be returning.

This was our second stay at the cottage and it was just perfect.. The views are gorgeous, especially in the snow. Lovely walks directly from the cottage. Most of the time we just chilled, a lovely log burner kept us toasty with a never ending supply of logs. Kath and Mark are a lovely couple who go out of their way to ensure you have a good holiday. Even the hens were kind to us this time supplying us with eggs for breakfast! The kitchen is so well equipped that at this visit we mostly cooked and ate in the cottage with of course a glass of wine. We are already planning our next visit later in the year.

The owners made us feel so welcome and the cottage was simply perfect.. We would highly recommend this cottage. Such attention to detail. By far the best place we have ever rented. The bed is so comfortable, the location is perfect and everything was spotlessly clean. There just isn't enough room here to say to say how much we enjoyed it.

Of the many cottages we have stayed in, this was far and away the best! Stunning views from every window. Peaceful area. Accommodation way above standard. And Kath and Mark are two of the nicest people you could wish to meet. Nothing was too much trouble for them. If you wish to explore Yorkshire and into the Dales, this is the perfect base for two people. Sheila & Frank from Wirral

Baywood Cottage is a beautiful property set on the hillside and the views are spectacular.. The location is ideal for getting about with Skipton, Keighley and Haworth only a short distance away. It is also ideal for anyone who enjoys walking. Kath and Mark were really friendly and made us feel at home from the moment we arrived. Additional touches such as the fresh flowers in the lounge and bedroom and providing us, on arrival, with lovely fresh eggs, water and milk was a lovely surprise and very much appreciated. We really enjoyed our stay and will not doubt at some point be returning for another visit.

This cottage is truly special with everything we could have wanted and more! Kath & Mark made us feel so welcome and have achieved the highest attention to detail you always hope to find, but rarely do...from the fresh flowers in the lovely spacious living room to the fresh milk, tea, coffee & cookies as well as delicious free range eggs in the kitchen, there is everything you could possibly want. The cottage is filled with light & has large windows in every room so you can enjoy breath taking views of the surrounding countryside from every aspect - it is in a magical spot away from it all but with the advantage of being close to all local amenities (good pubs with good food!), & also near enough to all the main tourist attractions in the area. If walking is your thing there are some stunning walks literally from the door step, but if you prefer to chill out & relax, you could use the outdoor furniture & comfy cushions provided to simply while away your holiday soaking up the peace & tranquility (Kath's beautiful white ponies in the surrounding fields & stables raise this place to another level of loveliness!)...Kath & Mark are terrific hosts & always available should you need anything at all, but are happy to leave you in total peace to enjoy your holiday, which is exactly what we did! One of our best ever holidays & a cottage that we can highly recommend.

We had a lovely week at Baywood Cottage , the facilities were perfect and the location itself has great views .. Its also an excellent location to access some of the beautiful walks, both from the Cottage and via short car journeys. Kath and Mark were great hosts and not at all intrusive , but it was lovely to have them on hand for some local information tips. There are some excellent and friendly pubs and restaurants close by and its certainly worth exploring as many as you can. We shall certainly be repeating our visit as soon as we can , the area and the cottage has so much to offer. thanks for a lovely stay.

One of the best cottages we have stayed in, very clean and tidy.. Ideal base for sight seeing and walking with the Pennine Way not far away. The views across the dales are so nice to wake up to in the morning, stayed a week and really enjoyed especially the free eggs for breakfast.
