It was our first time at Netherscar but most definitely not the last. The cottage, the views, the garden, the location, & the walks, all amazing. A perfect place to stay if you want a tranquil holiday, and if you have dogs, as it is located in the middle of the 3 peaks, it is blessed with many lovely walks straight from the door. Have recommended to a lot of people, a few that I know have actually booked it & I’m sure they won’t be disappointed. As for a previous review mentioning you need a 4x4 to reach the cottage, we had a 4x4 & a sports car & had no problem accessing the property in either car (maybe that’s down to driving ability). Also, we found Vicky very friendly & helpful if you needed any information.

Our stay at Netherscar was amazing- well equipped and cosy property with stunning views and a huge garden which the kids couldn't get enough of.. The location offers complete quiet and unique views, the owners were very friendly and quick to help and communicated well, and the house is sizeable and just modern enough- access to this location is a bumpy but accessible mile long private road through the owners working farm, any vehicle can do it if careful and well maintained, and the nature of the place and area means compromises like peaty water, low water pressure and a fair amount of bugs! None of which matters when you see the view, both from the amazing sun room and the expansive garden. Can't recommend enough.

This was our 3rd stay here - and we’ve already got another stay booked.. We love it, it is so incredibly peaceful and idyllic. The cottage is really well equipped, we only ate out once this time and cooked meals in the kitchen the rest of the week as there was literally everything you could possibly need. We first came when our children were small, now they are adults themselves, but still wouldn’t miss a family trip to Netherscar.

Our first time at Netherscar and I must admit I was a little nervous due to the lack of recent reviews- I shouldn't have been, Netherscar is amazing and for one main and indisputable reason: the views. The panoramic views from the sun room and the garden need to be seen to be believed- it is breath taking, no matter what the weather. The cottage itself is spacious, there is wifi, a dishwasher plus all the usuals, 4 bedrooms plus a seperate shower and seperate bathroom. It is wonderfully quiet, just the right amount of seclusion and the owners are nearby on the farm and very friendly and helpful if needed. The style of Netherscar is very cottage like, but we found this added to the charm and fitted the location and atmosphere. Access to this sort of seclusion and truly unique views means some things have to be understood and viewed in the right context- peaty water, intermittent shower pressure and water temperature, the mile long bumpy private road to the property and the bugs are all things you must be realistic about with a cottage property of this kind and in this location in the Dales. Personally these things didn't bother us and we are booked again for next year. Location is also ideal for visiting local area must sees such as the famous falls, caves and viaduct. Amenities within 15 minutes. All in all ,its Dales Perfection.

Our family of 4 adults and children stayed at netherscar in August. We have stayed before and always find the cottage a true place to unwind and enjoy the peace, quiet and stunning views. The cottage did not offer 5 star luxury. It doesn't say it does. It's comfortable, cosy and well equipped. There's plenty of room for the kids to play and the big garden is perfect for running about with a football. The facilities are fine. Hot shower and bath for the kids. Yes the water is a bit brown. It comes from a private spring and is coloured by peat. The owners provide a filter jug which we use to fill the kettle. Walks from the cottage are wonderful and a walk to the viaduct is well rewarded with a pint in the railway station pub. The cottage is quite remote but we have navigated the lane easily with a variety of cars non of which were 4x4's. This year was the first with WiFi! A welcome addition.

I mistimed my return to the cottage one day and had great difficulty opening a gate and closing it after I had driven through.. The gate was broken and not on any hinges and very heavy. It was lucky I was in my walking gear and not good clothes.

Went here in 2011 and it was fine, hence our repeat visit. What a mistake. Netherscar has always been rustic but this time it was awful. A grimy and dangerous place. When we arrived the dishwasher was full. The Kettle, toaster and microwave filthy. The Cooker not been cleaned for weeks. The downstairs toilet seat cracked and filthy. Electrical sockets in the sun room broken/overheated and suffering water ingress. The Electric shower intermittent for water heating. The Sun lounge reeks of nicotine and stronger smokes! Complained to Sykes did get a small amount refunded. How anyone has given this a good review recently is shocking in itself. Shame its a beautiful setting.

The Cottage sits in a very beautiful setting with views of the three peaks and Ribblehead Viaduct, with plenty of good walks right from the door.. The cottage was a perfect place to share quality time with family and friends, excellent weather so we were able to enjoyed the lovely garden.

Netherscar was ideal for us.. Accommodating our 2 dogs as well as catering for a family. The remoteness was just what we were looking for to birdwatch and spot hares....perfect. Thank you for sharing your world !

The location of the holiday cottage is quite remote which is fine but you need a 4x4 to get to it safely as you leave the tarmac and go through the farm and up a dirty road. Luckily we did but the other cars struggled quite a bit. There are some great walks the and the local waterfalls are a definite visit. I can only describe the experience as boarding on camping. The sheets where dirty and we washed most of the plates and utensils before using them. The wind also is a real problem as it howls down the side of the house as it is set in a gully. The views from the property are amazing and we undertook a walk from the house to the Ribblehead Viaduct which is a must see. Very impressive of the Victorians to build such a monumental structure. It would of been nice to go back to a nice shower which was permanently cold and smelt so bad I couldn't face using it. The bath was the next option but as the water is brown (due to Peat Water being in use - the property is not on the mains) the though of sitting in it was too off putting so in the 4 days there I could barley wash. It you want a basic, slightly dirty and dilapidated holiday cottage then this is the one for you and the price reflects that. The internet is very good and quick, but overall this is not the place to go to relax. It is more of place to take dogs, walk and generally be out and about most of the time. There are great local pubs to eat at and to taste some local ale.

Beautiful location in the middle of nowhere - The cottage is in desperate need of renovation and a real good deep clean.. This could be an amazing cottage. Water supply was a shock.... having to bathe in brown water. The cottage itself is in a perfect location for rambling/walks , but needs a revamp.

Cottage is basic but clean Ideal for us with a dog and a baby. Excellent kitchen facilities with oven dishwasher etc. Very secluded and quiet. Just loved it. Brilliant to see a working farm in action. Owners close but didn't bother us. Will be returning just for the view of nothing else

Spectacular views , tranquil will be back again . The owner was contactable and even offered to get shopping if stuck. Was not disturbed watched the ramblers and sheep, did not need tv.Local pub a two mile walk ,.You can catch a train into settle. This cottage is ideal for silence and views. Would recommend . The freezer and fridge hold enough for a week so you can stock up , kitchen equipped ok.

The location of the property has unbeatable spectacular views. The size of the garden enabled our dogs to chase each other all day long.

February 2015
Beautiful peaceful location, and the cottage was exactly what I expected from a dog friendly place. Enjoyed the open fire and freedom from modern technology. There were plenty of walks for energetic members of the family straight from the door. Managed to sit outside 1 day with a book and a glass of wine, couldn't hear a sound at all apart from birds. Magic!

January 2014
Very impressed with the cottage in general, lots of crockery, cutlery. pans and everything else required in the kitchen, even a turkey roaster provided ! an overall score would be 10. The owners even provided jigsaws and games for use of the guests, although with the spectacular views from the conservaratory especially of the viaduct that was enough to keep us entertained. A big thank you to the owners who even provided enough fuel for our stay at this lovely cottage, will definitely consider another visit. surprised that the grading is only 2 stars, needs to be more !
Mrs Haseldine
January 2014
The cottage was very comfortable and offered spectacular views of both the viaduct and surrounding area. Everything we needed was provided in the cottage with even a turkey roaster. Really surprised that the tourist board only graded this cottage 2, should be a 4 at least! Very friendly and helpful owners who even delivered a extra 2 bags of fuel at a very competitive price. Would definitely recommend this property.
Mr Orford
November 2013
The cottage had everything that we needed. Very comfortable. The the views were the best we have ever had when staying at holiday homes over the last twenty years. The property should be graded more than two stars, it should be three or four stars.

This cottage ( a house really) is exactly what I was looking for when the lease ended after 13 years on my cottage in Perthshire. One is left completely alone, though help is near at hand, it is warm and roomy, smoking is allowed and if, like me, one is keen on railways, the opportunities for rewarding short drives, cycle rides and walks is almost boundless.

September 2012
The cottage was a really nice one, there was 6 adults and my then 6month old grandaughter. We had plenty of room so nobody was in one anothers way. There was plenty of information of what was around and about to do, which was helpful for us when we had done all we had planned. I phoned the owners the day before and they were really helpfull they answered all i asked. The only let down we had was the lack of cleaning my eldest daughter and myself had to clean from top to bottom as there was dog hairs everywhere and when i washed the floors i had to change the water 3 times. The drive up to the cottage is a long way from the road but we didnt mind that. Dont run out of anything as the nearest shops are a fair distance. What we all liked was the open views we had, the viaduct was in sight from the sunlounge, the people was all so frindly. Would we go again... yes we would.

The main attraction for us was the view and the fact they accepted 2 dogs. The place was warm and comfortable and had everything we needed. The owner was friendly and helpful. We were left to enjoy the isolation and brillient walks from the doorstep.

December 2011
We have stayed at Netherscar twice. Both times we have had a marvellous time. The walks from the doorstep are magnificent. Intrepid walkers can do the Yorkshire Peaks if so inclined. For the less agile there are level walks too. The drive up to the cottage is wonderful with sheep and cows sat on the track, reluctantly moving to let the car pass! The view of the viaduct is great and we enjoyed watching trains go over it, walking under it and learning its history up at the very friendly visitor centre. The cottage itself is a little jaded but clean and comfy. Would not win any prizes in an Ideal Home exhibition but that is part of its charm. The owner was quick to rectify the shower which stopped working and attend to all our needs, but never intrusive. There are plenty of places to drive to nearby e.g. Hawes, Ingleton etc. but mostly we enjoyed sitting in the sun lounge taking in the views, reading and totally relaxing. It is a truly 'get away from it all' place.

January 2010
As always, Netherscar provided a comfortable and welcoming venue for our get together. The seasonal welcome basket of goodies was a nice touch. The fact that we were effectively snowed in for the duration added a fresh but not unpleasant twist to one of our favourite cottages.

After spending a wonderful Xmas at this cottage in 2007, we decided to return in the summer holidays. The weather was pretty much the same! You don't come here for the weather though, but for the stunning location. It is pretty remote & the cottage interior is not likely to feature in a glossy 'Homes' magazine but it has the most amazing homely atmosphere, cosy coal fire & you could literally sit for hours taking in the incredible view from the picture window of the 'Sun'room. If weather permits, the 'White Scar' caves are a must. If you are looking for a 'get away from it all' break, this place is perfect. I love this cottage!

December 2009
This is the fourth time we have visited Netherscar but never have we had the weather so good! Wall to wall sunshine. It was beautiful to come downstairs in the morning to a clear view of the summit of Ingleborough one way and the magnificant viaduct the other. We never tire of the walks, both long and short from Netherscar. My first visit to the Hill Inn and the food was excellent, a lot better than the Station Inn and what a fascinating place ... a treasure trove! There was a new floor in the cottage and also a new kitchen, which was great. An abundance of wildflowers were filling the garden and the cows had their calves in the field beyond. Heaven!!!

December 2004
The cottage, the area and the views from the cottage far surpassed anything we were expecting. Our 3 generations were well catered for with even a well stocked library and games available. Walks from the cottage door were excellent and the Station Hotel served a good pint of Mild and did not object to our pushchair, toddlers and aging dog. The standard of equipment available in the cottage was brilliant even down to water filters. I think this is the second cottage we have had through you and we are well pleased with the properties and the service. We will continue to make you agency our first choice and have already recommended you to 3 of our friends/work colleagues.
