Not a quality let. Best feature was the comfy beds. It had not been cleaned thoroughly. Internal fabric needed maintenance and decor needed updating. Furniture looked like cast-offs from an auction. Shower seals dirty. Worst feature was no Wifi. If I stood outside, close to the owners house wall next door, it picked up an intermittent signal. No good for work. Sykes refused to help. Said it was the owners responsibility, even though Sykes had advertised it with Wifi, and the owners admitted it was intermittent. But that information was only in the arrival pack.

Loved every minute of our stay. We had booked the cottage because of its handy location to York where we wanted to see the Van Gogh Immersion at York, St Mary's. The rooms are cosy with a well designed living/dining/kitchen area. The kitchen itself was roomy with all you need for holiday cooking all the utensils you need. Two large and comfortable settees, so you can have one each if you want. The bedroom is spacious for the size of the cottage and there is a small en-suite as well. There are fields outside which had sheep in when we were there. Off road parking right next to the property. Leeds and Halifax a short drive away and there are park and rides for York very close by. Weather was fowl, but that's November for you, we were there for a rest anyway and so enjoyed a warm and comfortable stay. Highly recommended.

The cottage is comfy reasonably equipped, however the outside needs attention not inviting couldn't sit out due to lot of flies midges . Lots of weeds where table n chairs are . Also vehicle driving round field 11 o'clock at night with bright lights.

I have to say our stay at Lodge Cottage was absolutely brilliant.. It looked quite small when we 1st pulled up ,but inside was very spacious. The cottage itself was very well presented inside , everything you needed for a home from home. We were relaxed from the minute we arrived, loved watching the rabbits running around in the meadow outside. The cottage is well situated just outside Knapton village, far enough out for a peaceful stay, yet near enough to do all the things we wanted to do, Visit York etc. I only met the owner once but he was really lovely. They even left us fresh milk in the fridge on our arrival. I would certainly stay there again. Forget the extortionate price of hotels , go for a Sykes cottage, its worth every penny. Sykes themselves are a really good company. I have no complaints at all 11 out of 10 :)

Overall a very nice place to stay, we really enjoyed our time there and would consider going back.. We loved the privacy, the closeness to the park and ride and the general environment. A few minor niggles however: - WiFi needs to be more easily accessible (a booster doesn't cost much) - A little close to a major road added some noise. - The space can be a bit tight. Removing one of the settees might help. - Two double beds rather than a single bed. Good for friends but less preferable for couples.

We rented this cottage so that we could spend a weekend in and around York.. The cottage was small but had everything that we needed and was in an ideal location. We were offered an extra night which made our stay so much easier - a real bonus. Thank you Sykes. There was some road noise but having the fields surrounding the cottage made you feel as if you were in the countryside, so the best of both worlds. Overall very happy with the property.

The Lodge was the perfect retreat for two. It gave us the opportunity to get away from the hustle and bustle but still be within striking distance of York itself and indeed a great deal of Yorkshire. The owners were next door and were very nice seeing if there was anything else we might need. They were extremely friendly, approachable and very helpful. The accommodation itself was of an excellent standard and met our needs perfectly. I am already highly recommending it to friends and family.

An excellent base for exploring the Vale of York and beyond. The Cottage was warm and comfortable, and well equipped enough to cope with some reasonably complex cooking. Lodge Cottage is very small but for two people wanting a very quiet location it's perfect. There are open fields to the front and back and it is located in a dead-end lane with no traffic. The cottage is close to the excellent Park Ride terminus which makes getting into York so easy.

Lodge Cottage was ideally located to visit the City of York. It was located near the A1237 road, which was very convenient for visiting many different places, as this was part of the ring road around York. Park and Ride in a number of different places not far from the cottage.

Loved my stay here. From the outside the cottage looks deceptively small, but the living space, kitchen and bedroom are great. The bathroom is a little cramped, but the shower works well, so no matter. Location is great - outside the hustle and bustle of York, but still easy to reach the centre. Well equiped, nicely decorated, comfortable furniture. Friendly, but non-intrusive owners next door.

The cottage was a nice surprise when we got there, and the directions were easy to follow. It was very compact - everything you could possibly wish for from the biggest to the smallest item!! It was comfortable, the view was lovely over the fields at the back of the house. The only comment I have is that the shower room could have been a bit bigger, but was adequate. We were going to a photographic forum at York racecourse so the location was ideal, there were plenty of places to eat and drink and a lovely pub at the bottom of the road! I would definitely recommend this property and the owner introduced himself to us, but did not intrude but just said that if there was anything we needed let him know. Would use it again without a doubt.

This comfortable and well appointed cottage is close to York yet in a rural setting. All the amenities are new, smart, functional and comfortable. We stayed to be close to our son at York University and explore the city's history and heritage, for which the cottage proved to be an ideal base.
