On the first floor is an open plan living area containing a fitted kitchen, a dining table and a sitting area. To the front of the cottage is a small patio with garden furniture and off road parking for one car. Taking its name from the steam railway that passes by; Clickety-Clack Cottage not only overlooks the harbour in Whitby, but is superbly located for exploring all of the coast as well as the North Yorks Moors National Park which is close by.

The fishing port of Whitby lies at the mouth of the River Esk and is ideally situated for exploring this part of Yorkshire with its superb coastline and the North York Moors. Whitby is a charming and atmospheric town of winding streets and hidden alleys, with a picturesque harbour, safe sandy beaches and of course the Abbey, reached by the famous 199 steps.

Region
The North York Moors National Park covers 554 square miles, with landscape ranging from heather-clad moorland and deep secluded dales, to the cliffs and coves of the magnificent coastline making it a haven for walkers.

September 2020
We stayed in the cottage as a family of 4 in August 2020; our children were 6 and 9 at the time of our visit. Our first impression of the cottage was lovely, a delightful setting, beautifully decorated, private parking and just away from the hustle and bustle of Whitby but near enough to walk. The views of the harbour and abbey were stunning and the Co-op was a short 3 minute walk away - perfect! The cottage itself was very well equipped, in fact the kitchen probably had more than we were expecting with washing up liquid, foil and kitchen roll and dishwasher tablets amongst other things readily and available. Whitby itself was extremely busy, almost too busy given the circumstances surrounding Covid but that is not the reason for the 3 star review. This review is based solely on the cottage itself. With it being an upside down building the bathroom was downstairs and was built at the rear of the cottage into the hillside; this meant no windows to let in fresh air, as a result, with 4 people in the cottage the atmosphere was always a bit damp after our daily showers - in fact it took me three days to dry a load of washing. We followed the instructions with the fan and the heated towel rail but you can’t compensate for fresh air. Due to the building being in the middle of a terrace type row, the cottage was also very hot and not easy to cool down even with windows open. Now for the noisy bit - the cottage is built directly at the side of the railway line, this was perfect for watching the steam trains pass by during the day, it was almost magical to see...the only problem was the 06:15 and 06:30 Whitby to Pickering trains that passed each morning, and because the cottage it next to a pedestrian crossing, the trains are required to sound their horns upon their approach, this was a less than ideal wake up call each day! The other issue was the large harbour car park directly opposite. On the weekend the car park was visited by numerous young adults until 2 o’clock in the morning, there was a lot of shouting, screaming and cars racing/performing donuts outside the cottage which was a terrible shame. All in all; we had a nice holiday but I don’t think we would return to this cottage, which is a shame because the owners have clearly spent a lot of time making it an enjoyable place to stay.

Stayed in this wondeful cottage in March this year.. It was clean, warm, cosy and everything you could possibly want is to hand a little home form home. We were very comfortable the water was always piping hot.The mattress in the double room has recently been renewed and this made for a really comfy nights sleep. We slept better at the cottage than in any other place we've stayed. We were disappointed that the North York's Railway steam train wasn't actually running, we were a bit too early as it runs form Easter on wards (our mistake) Would have been really lovely to watch the trains from the cottage window or even on the patio. The weather was beautiful for March warm & sunny we couldn't have asked for better weather, this also made our stay as we got out and about quite a bit. Blessing that there is a designated car parking space for the cottage once we parked up we walked everywhere it was really lovely to stay in Whitby and see it when its not so hectic. Whitby is a busy vibrant place to visit but sometimes it's crazy busy. There are plenty of places to eat and drink and masses of shops to visit. Excellent little cottage we would defiantly book it again. We hoped to book the sister cottage " The Shipwrights" which is bigger for a break with friends in October but we couldn't get the dates. Maybe we'll be luckier with "The Shipwrights" next year!

March 2019
The cottage is in a perfect location, close to the centre of Whitby and it's bars and restaurants.. There is a good view of the harbour and when running the steam trains. Clickety clack cottage has everything you need for a weeks holiday. The carton of milk left for our arrival was a nice touch. The small bedroom is well designed to make the most of a small space and there is plenty of storage including extra hanging space under the stairs. Really enjoyed our week and would recommend this cottage.

It is a lovely location with numerous destinations to visit.. Robin Hoods Bay and Pickering two name two. In Whitby itself there are dozens of great places to eat and drink. It is a lovely town, beautiful scenery, great setting. Clickety Clack is ideally situated, just a couple of minutes walk to the town centre/railway station/bus depot/shops. I am sure we will be returning in the future, God willing.
Ms Martin
September 2018
A very well appointed property and a level walk to the centre of Whitby.. There were a few pieces of dirty crockery and cutlery in the cupboard when we arrived and two chipped mugs that need replacing but spot checks when the property is cleaned should easily correct this. But all in all a nice place to stay and enjoy the area which we did indeed. Would recommend this place for two adults or two adults with children but not four adults as the space is limited.
Mr Kitt
September 2018
The property had not been cleaned properly when we arrived, we contacted the owner who arranged for their housekeeper to come round and do the most immediate work, but generally the property was generally grubby and getting a bit worn out and in need of a refurb.. It is a great location but we won't be staying at this property again. Standing over someone who has not done their job properly is not my idea of a good start to a holiday!
Mr Howe
June 2018
Fantastic house with everything you could possibly need.. Very comfortable stay. We loved it that much we booked again for next year within the first hour of arriving. The owners are very helpful and have clearly thought of everything to make your stay a home from home. Could not fault this holiday one bit. Sykes were brilliant too. Thank you

Great place to stay. Comfy, clean, well equipped, cosy cottage. Great location, 5 mins walk from town and the private parking space is worth its weight in gold at Whitby. Can't name any faults. Highly recommended but leave a week or two available for us to go back if you thinking of going.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Clickety-Clack Cottage, the cottage itself was all we could wish for, and the location could not be better. The centre of Whitby was not more than a 5 minute walk, also parking at the cottage was a big plus. My wife and I holiday in Whitby most years, so now for any future visits we shall look no further than Clickety-Clack for our base.

September 2014
A superb cottage located in the heart of Whitby. With everything you could ever need within walking distance you won't need to take the car out. Everything you could ever need is supplied within the cottage (with the exception of towels) and being located adjacent to the whitby railway - it's a great place to see the North Yorkshire Moors Railway (avoid at all costs if you hate trains - the cottage is so close it vibrates as the large steam trains pass) - our toddler loved waving to the passengers as the train passed and waiting for the trains became a daily ritual. The only grumble being the hard mattress in the master bedroom - my wife and I woke up each morning feeling stiff and aching - but acknowledge that this is a personal thing so your milage may vary!
Mrs Thomas
June 2014
The upside down layout is brilliant as it gives you the chance to enjoy the view. Also the dual entrances give you the options to leave and return by either aspect.
Mrs Stirland
June 2014
The cottage was excellently furnished, decorated and had all the things you need for a home away from home. We particularly enjoyed watching the trains and boats out of the living room window each day.

June 2014
We stayed for a week in Clickety clack cottage. It was decorated in a modern and clean way and has all modern amenities such as a dishwasher and washing machine. The children loved looking out for trains and watching the boats on the river esk. The beds were comfy and the bedrooms were spacious. The unconventional bunk beds were great.....the kids loved them especially the fact they weren't too high. The only downside was it was incredibly warm even without the heating on so the windows had to be always open but there was a large fan in the cottage we we used each day to cool the cottage down in the living area. The cottage has it's own parking space which was great and there is a small garden area to the back with a picnic table and washing line. The cottage is ideally placed for the town centre and beach. Both only 5 to 15 min walk away. Wonderful place to stay with children and very good value for money. We will def be back and looking forward to it!!x
Mrs Crabtree

The location of the cottage was perfect and the addition of a car park space was wonderful. We love Whitby and enjoyed getting out and about on foot and local transport.

March 2014
Could not really fault Clickety Clack other than the heating was tooo hot! However we were able to switch it off/turn it down. The only other matter was an unpleasant drains smell in the downstairs bathroom. Other than that the cottage has everything you would want, the owners have good taste, given it a personal touch and also value comfort. Athough next to the railway, it was not intrusive and would be interesting when the Steam trains are running. The cottage is only 3 minutes walk from the supermarket and Whitbys main shops and attractions are a minute further on - although the cottage was in a peaceful postion. It also has some excellent walks from the door. We have been to Whitby many times but this has been the best accomodation, thank you! Would hope to go back sometime.

The cottage is beautiful. Great that it comes with a parking space. Only 5 mins walk to the centre. With lovely views of the Abbey and harbour.

January 2014
Private parking. Just off the beaten track but only minutes from the centre. The thoughtfulness of the owners in providing useful extras. Very comfortable accommodation of a good standard. Being able to walk out of the cottage straight onto the riverside walks.

January 2014
Parking in Whitby is an absolute premium, so an allocated space is brilliant. It's only a short walk into the town, and the co op is about 5 mins walk away. The location is incredible, and the views across the Esk are wonderful, and best of all it was a steam gala weekend, so we had steam trains past the window four times a day in each direction, with the runaround directly outside the window. Marvellous.By the end of the week we recognised the locos by the sound of their whistle! the cottage is 'upside down', meaning the best views are all from the living room/dining room area. The bedrooms are extremely quiet, with no street noise. the cottage was exceptionally well equipped with a comfortable bed. Everything was exceptionally clean, and well cared for. We would definitely come again, but it has to be a stay for people who like trains (unsurprisingly with the name!!). best to check the Nymr website before booking as steam trains don't always run.No faults, no problems whatsoever.
Mr Atha
December 2013
The cottage was beautifully clean, very warm and little touches made us feel special. The location is perfect for access to town, shops and pubs, whilst also being close to the road outward bound for excursions. Even over Christmas the river provides frequent changes of scenery. The bonus of a car parking space was very welcome and having the roadway outside made for very easy loading and unloading. My contact with the owners was very simple and efficient and they displayed a very pleasant nature. Most enjoyable, have rebooked.
Mr Brennan
October 2013
Immaculately presented cottage in a great location. Views were ever changing over the estuary and much enhanced by the proximity of the adorable steam trains. We think Clickety-Clack is perfect for a romantic holiday. A great central place to stay with parking.

This property is in a convenient place, close enough to the town without any traffic noise. The trains passing didn't disturb us, in fact my Grandson was very interested and rushed to the window to watch them. All in all the property was very comfortable and spotlessly clean.

February 2013
The location was excellent, only a few mins walk across the railway line and into the centre. Surprisingly enjoyed the trains going past and the view from the sitting room is great over the marina. You can even see the abbey if sat in the right place, lovely on a morning to have breakfast to. The cottage itself was perfectly to my taste, couldn't have asked for better.

September 2012
It was beautiful. Everything you could ask for and more. Top of the range furnishings, beds excellent, don't be put off by the bunk beds, I am 6ft and 14 stone and slept like a log in them ! Tried both lol! Anyone who moans about the sofas being uncomfortable needs their heads examining, they swallowed you up in perfect comfort. If this is the type of cottage Sykes offer, I will be booking with you every year. Absolutely beautiful holiday from start to finish.

July 2012
This cottage, which we have visited several times now, is finely placed for what we require. Near the town centre and it overlooks the river and is within walking distance of everything. With just the two of us, it's just ideal. We would hope to use it again in the future.
Mrs Seager
July 2012
The cottage was within easy walking distance of the town and the steam trains going by were great. The best thing was seeing the Olympic torch go past the cottage on the train.
Mrs Scoffield
July 2012
The cottage was situated within easy walking distance of all the facilities in Whitby, with the added advantage of its own parking spot. There was a lovely view across the river and we could see the Abbey. Although they were not running whilst we were there, a lovely touch - especially to people like my husband who loves steam trains - was the fact that the steam trains from the NYM Railway run directly in front of the cottage.
Mrs Campbell
July 2012
Clickety-Clack Cottage was extremely clean and well kept. It has many leaflets/info for round about activities etc. Our family really enjoyed our holiday there and would recommend it to friends and family. Whitby is a lovely fishing village and this cottage is perfectly placed for a nice relaxing or fun packed break.
Mrs Beevis
July 2012
One of the best if not the best property we have had. 10 minute stroll across car park round Marina to the shops on level. Hadleys fish restaurant good value over bridge on corner on right. View and parking a big bonus. Grossmort is worth a visit if the steam trains that passes close to the cottage isn't near enough.
Mrs White

Lovely cottage with all mod cons. Views of Whitby and next to heritage railway line. Double glazed and centrally heated, 8 minutes walk from pubs and restaurants. However, it was spoiled by the inadequate lighting in the bathroom, and possibly the most uncomfortable pair of sofas I have ever sat on!

Close proximity to town, railway and bus stations, shops, amenities and sea was perfect but cottage location was still quiet and peaceful. Private parking was an added bonus. A delight to see the steam trains pass by from the windows. Even the weather was excellent.

This was as well appointed new house. Suitable for two adults and two children (although we only had one) Very clean and the owner was very helpful. Location was great, with stream trains passing close by during the day (but no bother/noise at night) Only 5 mins from central whitby on foot. I would certainly recommend.

June 2011
The cottage was very well situated, allowing us to walk into town in just 5 minutes. The property is recently built and well equipped. It was very clean and we felt at home almost straight away. My daughter really liked being able to see the railway and watch the steam trains go by several times a day. The owner and cleaner were very helpful. One of our party has allergies to just about everything and we are very grateful of the efforts they made to accommodate our requests regarding the use of strongly perfumed products etc.

The cottage was very close to Whitby centre, the cottage was very warm, also very stylish interior with attention to detail. Had great fun watching the trains go past although they did not interrupt our peace and quiet. Whitby has great eating and drinking places, lots to do on your doorstep.

What a Whitby Gem! Very comfortable warm cottage - ideal in this snowy winter weather. Lovely Abbey and river views in a quiet neighbourhood. It was clean, very well equipped with parking allowing us to explore the surrounding countryside without experiencing Whitby's traffic problems. I would recommend this property to anyone. We will be back in the summer so the children can watch the steam trains.
