Photos on other sites don’t do the cottage justice. The cottage is newly decorated and furnished. The house was warm (in cold weather) and the hot water and water pressure were great. Sofas very comfortable. Good walks of all difficulties in immediate area & can walk to local village. Local pubs are average. We stayed as 4 couples and one child and had a fantastic weekend.

We had a brilliant weekend at the Old Stables.. The accommodation was perfect, immaculate and in a lovely location. The owners were lovely and ensured we had everything we needed for our stay.

December 2019
The cottage was very comfortable and well appointed.. The information folder was very well thought out with great suggestions for walks and places to visit. The bedrooms were all a good size and the bathroom facilities adequate. We really enjoyed our short break and the owner left us some lovely mince pies which we thoroughly enjoyed. The only thing that could be improved is that the only shower in the property is downstairs in the hallway. It would be nice given that there is space for there to have been a shower upstairs with the bedrooms instead of two baths.

December 2019
Nice & peaceful location, cottage has been refurbished to a high standard.. There were great views over the fields, with some nice walks direct from the cottage out into the dales. The location was really good for Matlock, which was surprisingly close, Matlock has a superstore with a petrol station and the location is ideal for going to the likes of Bakewell & Buxton. Ashover is a very picturesque village and has 3 decent public houses about 10 minutes walk away. All off the pubs did decent cask beers and the food was decent and not really expensive. Locals we spoke to were really friendly.

It couldn't exceed my expectations because we have been there before! And we have booked again for the same time next year. So that tells you a lot. Very comfortable, excellent for a large party, nice location, and the owner is very friendly and helpful while being absolutely non intrusive.

Lesley the owner was very helpful and quick to answer any questions we had.. Our stay in the old stables was great, the location is beautiful and the accomodation suited our party size perfectly (4 adults and 4 children). Worth mentioning is the kitchen, it was very well equipped and had all we needed to cook up some delicious family meals which were enjoyed around the large dining table. We’d recommend staying here to friends and family.

Fabulous, spacious and spotless holiday accommodation with lovely big comfy beds.. A great location with three pubs just down the lane and the farm shop for a delicious cooked breakfast and a very warm welcome. Some beautiful walks from the doorstep with amazing views and within easy reach of two ridge walks, plus many other places of interest. Altogether great! A lovely village with very friendly people.

Lovely spot and lovely property.. All modern and was suitable for a large group of 8. Big shower downstairs which we weren’t expecting but was a welcome addition. Plenty of utensils in the kitchen with enjoyable lemon cake and games in the lounge. We used the welcome book to go for a walk and then ate at the local village pub which was fantastic. All in all a great weekend break and we wouldn’t hesitate to return. Many thanks

Had a three night stay at the old stables with five other friends for a joint birthday weekend. Our stay was very enjoyable. The property is finished to a very high standard, and comfortably furnished. Everywhere was clean, and the ambience of the property is relaxing, in a fantastically peaceful location. Within walking distance is a pub called the black swan, which sold excellent and reasonably priced food enjoyed by all out our group. A trip into matlock is advised to. Overall I would definitely recommend this property.

November 2018
Beautiful property in an excellent location.. Great walking on the doorstep and lovely pubs within walking distance. Our whole party had a fab weekend and will hope to return. Very nice to have a bottle of wine and home made cake left by the owner Lesley. The only negative for us as 4 couples who prefer showers rather than a bath would be for another shower perhaps over the bath to eleviate the wait but everything else was absolutely top notch.

Cottage was fitted out to a very high standard - definitely has the 'wow' factor.. Directions form Matlock 1st -class. Lesley very helpful with a couple of settling in queries. As I wrote in the guest book (and I'm a bit of a 'picky' sort) absolutely NOTHING negative to say - a most enjoyable venue for my wife, myself and our family as part of our Golden Wedding celebrations.
Mr Moss, October 2018

The Stables was lovely for our party of 6 adults +2 children 2 and 4.. Location was very good being a 10/15 min walk to the village. Ashover is a lovely village with shop and traditional pubs. It is well positioned for relaxing and walking locally but also for trips out for the whole family. Lesley the owner was friendly and helpful.Would highly recommend and love to go again.

February 2018
We had a wonderful weekend with family at The Old Stables to celebrate two 60th birthdays.. The house was just perfect; plenty of space, beautifully decorated, well equipped and furnished to a very high standard. The bedrooms in particular were stunning!! With many thoughtful finishing touches (including a bottle of wine and a homemade cake!) we couldn't have asked for any more! Lesley was extremely accommodating and friendly, and was happy to help us out with any extra requests we had. The Old Stables is tucked away at the end of a quiet road, but is within a 10 minute walk of the lovely village of Ashover. The views from the house across the fields are gorgeous, particularly on a sunny day (which we were lucky enough to have plenty of!) The village itself is beautiful and we enjoyed a wonderful meal at The Black Swan - highly recommended!! Thank you again for a wonderful weekend, we can’t wait to return!
Miss Shepherd, February 2018

October 2016
We booked the cottage for my Dad's surprise 70th birthday weekend and he absolutely loved it.. The photos on the website made the cottage look luxurious, but the reality was even better. The quality of all the furniture, furnishings and decor is top notch, but we still felt really comfortable and it was a home from home for the weekend. Lesley and her family should be very proud of what they have achieved in this stable conversion. I don't have a bad word to say about our time in The Old Stables. The location is perfect for exploring the Peak District. The village is a short 10 minute walk, where there are 3 pubs to choose from. We will definitely be coming again in the very near future.

Matlock golf course five minutes drive away and the local pubs were a just a walk away. Terrific place to stay. Highly recommended

This property is a new renovation in an old stone stable. It is very tastefully finished with great facilities, plenty of kitchen equipment for entertaining too. We stayed for a 60th birthday celebration with our extended family and it was perfect. The bathrooms have great water pressure and plenty of hot water for a group of 7. There are some really nice walks and Peak District villages/towns in easy reach.
