Where to start We “unfortunately” booked what appeared on face value a lovely house to celebrate our 21st anniversary in the heart of Windermere. Negatives: The house itself felt quite tired for example: 1. Parking: The drive at the rear of the property is tight and difficult to park. The back gate latch was broken and couldn’t be locked or secured so the chances of the gate slamming against your car in the wind is quite likely. 2. The decor: The mirrors and pictures appeared to be glued to the wall with silicon or some adhesive compound which is quite unique. 3: Entertainment: TV remote missing from the front room. 4. Kitchen: The fridge appeared to be catapulted into place and sat at a strange angle, as a consequence the freezer door wouldn’t close so required a defrost (just what you need why travelling 2.5 hours). 5: The front room: The curtain rails were hanging off the hooks and were in danger of falling down. This is where it gets interesting. Saturday 8th 9pm On returning from an all day hike and after entering through the rear patio doors we found the patio would not lock? we attempted to call the property maintenance company and a myriad of other numbers in the welcome pack but failed to get a response (all numbers directed to a call centre which was closed, however after leaving a message we finally got a response 40 minutes later) they sent an engineer to change /fix the locks who turned up at 10:30 ish but unfortunately couldn’t fix the door; after the gentleman left @11pm he informed us that the door was broken and required a new lock (please see picture of his security “solution 1”). The maintenance engineer informed us that he would fix in the morning (we decided to place valuables into the boot of the car just incase). Sunday 9th We went out for the day only to return to find that they hadn’t fixed the lock and proceed to seal the back door preventing entry or exit, ,this raised alarm bells as clearly any potential fire would prevent escape (see picture solution 2 and a letter explaining). We decided to leave on Sunday evening as we were unable to utilise the hot tube and enjoy our anniversary as the back door was sealed shut! Pros: Leaving

Absolutely beautiful little house and spotlessly clean. The prosecco in the cooler was a very nice surprise too, thank you! The 3 bedrooms, shower rooms, lounge areas and kitchen were very comfortable and had everything we needed for our stay. Well within walking distance of the lake itself and Bowness too. We had a wonderfully relaxing trip. The only issue we had was upon arrival when we attempted to park round the back of the property (in the advertised “off road parking”) we were unable to do so because of the amount of cars and vans from a nearby business which made it impossible to access the rear parking bay. We managed to get parked at the front and used the parking permit provided at the accommodation, however it is a fairly busy road I think we were lucky to get a space. Just something for the owners, and other guests, to be aware of.

What a lovely cottage in the centre of Windemere, Everything you need home from home, clean, spacious and nicely decorated, all rooms en-suite. The hot tub was great too. Coop at the end of the street if you need anything. There are some great bars, restaurants, cafes and takeaways here or Bowness was only a short walk too, but we did get a taxi back after visiting some lovely pubs here. The boat trip here was worth a visit. Even though the weather wasnt too good we still had a great time. Thanku hope to be back next year, highly recommended. X

Booked this due to the location and the bonus that it has a hot tub. Then place is spotlessly clean, loved the welcome pack one arrival such a nice little touch. All the rooms, have a TV again added bonus and there was also a selection of DVDs available. The place has two reception rooms, the one downstairs is nice and cosy, but is the only TV that doesn't have a DVD player. The one upstairs again is cosy, but it would be nice if there was a curtain, rather than netting over the door, we ended up putting one of the blankets over to block out the light. As with another review here, the ensuite in the front bedroom is small and if you want to use the toilet you do have to sit sideways. We would of like some more information on the area, places to visit etc and maybe a guest book so people can also recommend things to do. The location is perfect in central Windermere, close to shops, cafes and restaurants.

On arrival the cottage was had a very welcoming feel.. We loved the complimentary bottle of prosecco which we thoroughly enjoyed. The cottage was spotlessly clean. All the rooms were very spacious and we loved the on suite bathrooms in the 2 upstairs bedrooms even though they were quite small still very adequate. The 2 living areas were very cosy. All bedrooms and living rooms were supplied with Tvs which were all great only feedback I would say is some of the tvs YouTube didn't work but wasn't a problem it was just to let you know. The hot tub was amazing and we were lucky enough to have amazing weather both in the day time and night lovely added feature. The area is very well situated for walks and for places to eat and drink. Overall would definitely recommend this cottage.

My husband booked for us to stay at this cottage in the 25th January 2019 for two nights as a birthday gift to myself. The weekend cost just short of £500. We arrived at 7pm in the evening but were unable to get into the property until almost 8pm as we hadn't been informed in advance we had to go on a key hunt! We were greeted with a freezing cold 3 storey house. Not great if you have young children or anyone with limited mobility with you. First impressions were how pretty the cottage was but this was unfortunately very short lived as we soon saw how dirty the place actually was. It clearly hadn't been hoovered, hair and crumbs everywhere. The mirrors and windows were all covered in hand prints. The shower tray was full of pubic hair and dirt. Dirty cups and cutlery. But the worst was the unwashed bedding!!! You can tell when bedding which is covered in make up has been washed and is jyst strained, no this was fresh foundation and mascara. Absolutely disgusting. I've added pictures. As this was my birthday treat we decided to not ruin the weekend and instead contact Sykes cottages to address these issues once we got home. On the Saturday evening at around 5.30 while my husband was in the shower and I was drying off my two youngest children, my son (6) and daughter (4) after their showers the electricity all went off. We were in complete darkness. My son who has autism went into meltdown and my little girl was petrified. None of the other houses in the street were effected. After contacting skyes we were told an electrician would be around soon to fix the problem. As the children were so scared we had to leave the cottage and take them out in the freezing cold with soaking wet hair. At 9.30 we were informed that the electrician wouldn't be there that night and we were to basically go home. We had to pack our belongings in the pitch black with terrified children and drive home. Our 3 children didn't get into their own beds until midnight!!! We were devastated having to leave early as we had booked a tour of the lakes for the Sunday which we lost our money on. Now you would expect to be given an apology from skyes and some sort of refund. But no. The owner of the cottage point blank refused to give us anything other than £100. Our weekend was ruined, the cottage was disgustingly dirty, our children were massively put out and distressed but the greedy owner of this cottage believes a £100 refund is sufficient. No apology, no free one nights stay (not that I'd go back!) for the night we paid for and lost!! Nothing. Disgraceful. If that wasn't bad enough, 5 days after returning from the cottage I developed a rash on my face which turned out to be impetigo. The doctor believes I caught this from the hot tub which we used for all of 15 minutes! Please book somewhere else.

Really lovely cottage, easy to pick up and drop off keys.. Main problem is the 10am check out time. A 12pm checkout would be much nicer. It was a bit of a stretch getting out on time and was a bit of a downer on our Sunday morning

Nice cottage with well equipped kitchen and comfortable sofas and more spacious than expected as there were 2 living rooms.. Bathrooms not particularly clean - toilet & sink ok but shower tray was dusty. Matresses on beds were lumpy and uncomfortable.

Before I become too negative I would like to say the accommodation was ideally situated , clean and ample room, however there were a few things that could be improved.. There was a note welcoming us with a bottle of wine in cooler it wasn’t there, not an issue but not a good start. We were very disappointed as the accommodation was over three floors and this wasn’t really apparent from the images, this caused a problem as the stairs were quite steep and subsequently quite tiring, especially as kitchen and living area we used were on lower floor and toilet on different floor. Average age 65. Also the television in bedroom at the back didn’t work. The internet service was terrible so limited to choice especially as they had invested in Now tv and it didn’t work. The bed also in main bedroom needs a new mattress as this was very uncomfortable. These issues won’t stop us using Sykes again I hasten to add.

Thanks for the bottle of prosecco, nice touch! Was extremely disappointed that the hot tub wasn’t able to be used on our first evening, despite us not arriving until almost 7.30pm. It was only at 28 degrees as it had been treated and cleaned. We had been really building up the excitement for our children for weeks, telling them as soon as we arrive, we’ll jump straight in. They were devastated to not be able to use it as soon as we got there, having to wait for the next morning when it had heated up. We chose this property due to its location and also the hot tub, so feel we’ve missed out on one night of using then main facility we had booked it for.

Arrived at the cottage for a girls weekend away. The cottage itself was beautiful inside and very clean. Very bright and well presented. Hot tub was a great added extra and again very clean. Only problem was the on suite to one of the bedrooms you had to sit on the toilet sideways due to it being very small.
