We just had a fabulous 7 day stay here, during Pandemic times and a very busy Lake District. I chose the apartment because of two things: it looked like incredible value for money, being positioned as it is so close to Windermere and Ambleside AND the picture of the bay window views of Lake Windermere. On arrival, I felt that the place exceeded my expectations.
The apartment is very spacious and comfortable. The photographs do not do it justice. The bay window in the living/dining room is huge and you could sit/stand all day staring at the view. We didn't have the best of weather during our stay, but the constantly changing light and clarity as clouds and mist and rain moved across the aspect was wonderful.
I am not sure that the description of the house being 'in the centre of the village of Troutbeck' is very helpful. Troutbeck is a 'village' that spreads itself over miles of hillside, and in fact, we tried to avoid driving through it as much as we could, because it was very busy with traffic (both pedestrian and car). Instead we found a more direct route down to the main road between Windermere and Ambleside, although as previous reviewers have said, the roads are very narrow and steep. If you are a nervous driver, The Lake District as a whole is not really a good place to visit ! And certainly, being a confident driver is a must if you are staying in Low Skelgill.
The house is actually set in a very peaceful location, with just a few walkers passing by on their way up the hill.
For amenities, you have both Windermere and Ambleside close by with lots of shops, restaurants and bars. Kendal isn't too far, and you can find decent supermarkets there.
