We just had a fabulous 7 day stay here, during Pandemic times and a very busy Lake District. I chose the apartment because of two things: it looked like incredible value for money, being positioned as it is so close to Windermere and Ambleside AND the picture of the bay window views of Lake Windermere. On arrival, I felt that the place exceeded my expectations. The apartment is very spacious and comfortable. The photographs do not do it justice. The bay window in the living/dining room is huge and you could sit/stand all day staring at the view. We didn't have the best of weather during our stay, but the constantly changing light and clarity as clouds and mist and rain moved across the aspect was wonderful. I am not sure that the description of the house being 'in the centre of the village of Troutbeck' is very helpful. Troutbeck is a 'village' that spreads itself over miles of hillside, and in fact, we tried to avoid driving through it as much as we could, because it was very busy with traffic (both pedestrian and car). Instead we found a more direct route down to the main road between Windermere and Ambleside, although as previous reviewers have said, the roads are very narrow and steep. If you are a nervous driver, The Lake District as a whole is not really a good place to visit ! And certainly, being a confident driver is a must if you are staying in Low Skelgill. The house is actually set in a very peaceful location, with just a few walkers passing by on their way up the hill. For amenities, you have both Windermere and Ambleside close by with lots of shops, restaurants and bars. Kendal isn't too far, and you can find decent supermarkets there.

It was very homely and comfortable and the owners were very kind and helpful.. The accommodation is in a beautiful place with easy access to all the places you would be likely to want to visit. Dog walking was easy as you could walk straight from the house into beautiful woods and fields. My only comment rather than a complaint is that I wish owners of holiday accommodation would put in a decent size fridge. If you are self catering you will want somewhere to keep food. Not everyone can afford to eat out all the time. A decent size fridge that would hold enough food is necessary. A washing machine would be nice but not totally necessary if you are only away for a week.

We marked down slightly on facilities as we felt that the bathroom, whilst adequate, would have benefitted from an update - loo was difficult to flush and poor flow on the shower.. That said, we really liked the property, the beds were comfy and the lounge/dining area with those wonderful views was fantastic.

I took my Partner and Mother with me, my partner had never been to the Lakes before and my mother needed a holiday.. The views as we made our way to Skelghyll took her breath away and when we reached Low Skelghyll, she was speech bound. The views from the house are amazing. The house itself was all that I expected, roomy, clean and truly home from home. Some people may find the lane a bit daunting but let me assure you, it is worth the drive. If you want a quiet holiday in easy reach of the attractions the Lakes has to offer, then Skelghyll is your place. I cannot praise the house and location enough. You have to go yourself and see.

We had a great week despite the rain showers.. Low Skelgill was in a really great location despite the narrow access lane(part of the fun) it was very clean and comfortable with a very spacious sitting room with amazing views. The owner was very helpful. We would certainly use it again.

We love this place, the location is sublime and although the accommodation is basic, that is part of the charm..

We saw the views over Lake Windermere on the photos but they don't do it justice.. Low Skelgill is set in a tranquil location but well connected by public footpaths and bridleways for walking. The access road to the property was long and narrow, and only once did we meet someone coming the other way (a local farmer who reversed out of our way and was very helpful) The property was clean and well equipped and we were happy there for a week. Staying in a working setting (surrounded by sheep and the odd chicken) left us feeling privileged to see the Lakes from another perspective. We hope to return again in the future

We were very surprised that towels were not provided (and hand soap).. We book a lot of holiday cottages and therefore assume that towels are provided as standard. Also we did not have the wifi password. But great location and amazing views.

This is a very roomy flat with lovely views over Lake Windermere and the countryside. However because of its peaceful location ,it is high up a hill with a single precipitous track as access.so you have to plan your shopping carefully as there is no popping to the shops!. The flat is no frills but very clean and comfortable. The owner was helpful and turned the excellent heating on as we has a cold spell. The only drawback was the lack of a washing machine as the walking was rather muddy and wet. There is a lot of parking space.

A great little find. Peace and quite abounds. Warm, comfortable, perfect. Walks to both Troutbeck and ambleside straight from the door, plus the added bonus of lambing time. Will be back.

Really enjoyed our stay. Off the beaten track and not quite the Troutbeck location expected but a really lovely view. Would definitely stay again. Lovely spacious lounge with great view from dining table.

A lovely well proportioned apartment with stunning views over Lake Windermere. A little of the beaten track, ideal for walking and relaxing in peace and quiet. The apartment contains all the essentials required for family living, clean and comfortable but a little dated. Not that this spoilt what was a fantastic family holiday and we would certainly book it again.

The situation was great for us as we love the countryside. Everything we needed was in the apartment and we had plenty of space, the view from the lounge bay window was brilliant!
