Myself my husband and our doggy stayed in this beautiful cottage this November. The cottage was lovely and warm, fully equipped with everything we needed and all in all we felt at home this cottage is definitely worth a visit that's for sure. We loved it that much we have booked it again next year!

Work as a nurse took me to the beautiful Lake District for a week and having 2 dogs I decided a private rental would be better than a hotel. My daughter and I picked this delightful cottage through Sykes Cottages and what a find it was. Communication and info from René the owner was efficient, relevant and extremely polite and helpful. I was concerned that the locals wouldn’t be too happy having strangers staying around during lockdown - which was announced several weeks after our booking - but René was very reassuring and we didn’t encounter anything but warmth and friendliness. The cottage was easy to find, well located in a small village with lots of great walks right on the doorstep The cottage was spotlessly clean and well equipped, nothing had been left out - dishwasher, washer/dryer, 2 fridges and freezers, towels, bedding etc. An extremely good kitchen was very welcome considering all the pubs etc were closed. We stocked up at Aldi in Kendal and cooked at the cottage every day. It was well decorated, warm and cosy and the 2 main bedrooms were very big with lovely comfy beds. The lounge was large with a great wood burner and wood provided which we loved using at night. There was a garden that I imagine is stunning in the summer and a nice conservatory with the bonus of an extra toilet. Downstairs bathroom - again spotless with a powerful double over the bath shower. Everything was in perfect working order and we simply adored it. Some people have mentioned there’s a narrow driveway and it’s true as my car wouldn’t quite squeeze through but it was no problem as we parked right up to the entrance and our car was perfectly safe and off the road. The cottage was a good location for both Kendal and Windermere - about 25 mins to each - and as I was working in both tiens this made life very easy. We would highly recommend this fabulous cottage and we’d love to return in the summer and enjoy more time in the gorgeous Lakes

Arrived mid afternoon at the property all ok, found a note saying carpet had been cleaned in the rear entrance sun lounge, looked nice and clean but unfortunately was quite wet it never dried out all week windows wiped of running condensation twice per day, small dog was going to be in there but too wet for her so she stopped in the kitchen.. suggest that carpet is cleaned when no guests going in to property in fairness a small oil filled radiator was in the room on a timer but didn't help much. our holiday was not ruined as the weather was superb.

The cottage was excellent, very clean, and exactly as advertised.. The location - Backbarrow, was a good central location, but the village itself is a bit drab and lacking in basic requirements, pub, shop etc.

Beautiful cottage just a short drive from Windermere - really comfortable, working fireplace was great in the evenings! Lots of board games, books and DVDs, fab dog walks on the doorstep, and washing machine/dryer really useful after long walks! Would absolutely recommend and hope to be back soon!

Beautifully furnished cottage, warm, clean and cosy.. Good walks on the doorstep and close to the Haversthwaite and Lakeside steam railway. The garden is very steep and isn't enclosed but has a good view. Ulverston has a good supermarket and great fishmongers .

The cottage was actually nicer than in looked in the photos.. It was spacious, clean and very comfortable, having everything we needed. Its location was an ideal base for touring the lakes being very close to the bottom of lake Windermere, there were also fantastic footpaths on the doorstep perfect for early morning walks with the dog.

Lovely cottage that is obviously quite new to being let.. Had great facilities although a fridge freezer would have been useful as we cook quite a few meals for ourselves. Great location and we made use of the picnic table at the top of the garden.

Accommodation very comfortable, couldn't fault it.. Only minor point for improvement would be as the cottage was dog friendly the back garden was not, it was not secure for dogs as there was no fence between the garden/ driveway and was therefore open to the road. It didn't spoil our holiday, but for customers with a dog not ideal, and we had to tether our dog whilst outside, or keep on lead at all times.

An obviously newly-restored and decorated cottage, with excellent decor and furnishings, plenty of room, very clean and comfortable.. Ideal base to explore Windermere and Coniston, with Lakeside and Haverthwaite railway and the lakeland Motor Museum both in the local village. Highly recommended, although the steep, slippery back garden maybe not ideal for small children Definitely intend to return!
