High House was a brilliant place to stay, made to feel welcome & so so comfortable, there was everything you could need & more & a great place to explore the Lake District.. All I could say we would stop there again with out question.

The listing mentions the village pub---it closed some months ago.. Suggest this is removed. Apart from that the property is ideally placed for getting around the area and is clean and comfortable.

High house lives up to it's name, the views from the bedrooms are stunning.. A very nice warm and homely place. Nice big relaxing sofa, great after a trek around the lakes. Kitchen / Diner was lovely. Kids loved the summer house and all the games they found in their 'Attic' bedroom, which has a very steep staircase. A bit tricky to find at first, small village with narrowish roads. Located just a few minutes drive from Lake Windermere with easy access to the rest of the road network around the Lakes. Very nice comfortable stay.

High House is perfectly positioned as a base to explore the entire Lake District being close to the arterial road network so you can strike out in any direction to make the most of your holiday .. After a day’s walking up and down the Cumbrian Mountains and nicely tired , what better place to return to than High House , light the log burner and put your feet up ! The kitchen is well equipped but we brought our Slow Cooker to ensue a fabulous meal was ready on our return from a day’s walking. You don’t have to head for the Lakes either - explore the peninsulas and discover gems such as Grange-over-Sands and Cartmel Priory. We finished our holiday with a gentle walk up Hampshill overlooking Cartmel and Morecambe Bay - simply beautiful!! Needless to say we will be returning to High House later this year !

Lovely old cottage in a village close to Cartmel.. The cottage is extremely well furnished with lovely comfy beds, although the stairs to the second floor were a bit steep for us! So we only used one room. The kitchen is very well equipped and the owner kindly leaves a selection of DVD’s and cds’ along with maps to cover the whole of the Lake District. We had a wonderful holiday and would recommend both Sykes and this cottage

September 2019
A cozy little cottage very clean and had everything we needed for our stay.. .birds sang in the garden on a morning and the log burner kept us warm in the evening..really enjoyed it wine and cakes on arrival was a lovely touch and our dog teddy even had a little basket made up for him..would highly recommend...the only downside which had nothing to do with the cottage was the local pub the crown...food was very poor.

A great location and everything I need.. This is my third visit to this cottage in 3 years and that tells you all you need to know

September 2019
Lovely cottage.. Downstairs excellent with all the home from home comforts. Unfortunately what prevents it being the perfect cottage. Bathroom very small and compact and definitely as indicated in the details access to the second bedroom could difficult for some people. Fortunately as we were a party of 2 it was not an issue. Despite these 2 issues the positives out way the negatives and we would use it again and recommend it to others.

We have just returned from a weeks stay at High House.. Our first trip to The Lakes. The location was perfect for exploring the Lake District. The cottage itself was gorgeous. Fully equipped with everything we needed as well as welcoming extra touches. The dog bowl even had fresh water in it, and the cakes and wine were very much appreciated. The property was spotlessly clean and very well maintained. We can't wait to return! Highly recommended.

Lovely cottage, has everything you need .. Brilliant location to access all areas within the Lake District and so homely to come back to at the end of the day . Woodburner is a bonus if it’s a bit chilly , enclosed garden for the dog and excellent sun trap . Every detail is covered with wine and cakes on arrival and dog bowls and towels if needed . 11/10 for cleanliness it was faultless ! My first time in the Lake District and I will def be hitting the rebook button ... highly recommend.

A cottage where everything comes together perfectly.. Great location, lovely little village, a well equipped kitchen, big comfortable beds, private garden with a restful sun-house and a wood burning stove - what’s not to like? Thanks to Julie for the arrival treats, so nice and much appreciated. One line of caution, stairs to loft bedroom are steep so guests do need to be able and mobile.
Mr Simpson, May 2019
May 2019
Lovely cottage located in a very quiet hamlet with a nice pub very near by that did good food.. Within half hours drive of Windermere so quite well situated for southern and central lakes . Really enjoyed our break and would have no hesitation in booking this cottage again .

May 2019
Booking was easy to make and the process was seamless.. The cottage was exactly as listed, a great base to explore a lovely area from. The cottage is well equipped with modern facilities while maintaining a traditional relaxing ambience. High Newton is a quiet hamlet with friendly people. Great food at the Crown. Cannot fault and would recommend.

April 2019
We did not realise how close the cottage was to the road, which seemed to be a short cut for considerable amounts of traffic, commencing at 5.. 30am! We had poor weather on arrival and the cottage felt cold as the storage radiators were turned low. The bath is tiny and the shower erratic! Perhaps fitting just a reasonable shower and removing the bath might be the answer to solving the problems of a tiny bathroom. The welcome pack for the cottage was thoughtful

High House is a very pretty, well equipped cottage.. We enjoyed our stay, the summer house is a lovely place for a relaxing glass of wine and listen to the many birds. The welcome pack of wine and cake was much appreciated. However, care is needed when exiting the property as it's situated on busy rd, the noise of farm traffic was quite loud at times.

What a beautiful place.. Situated in a central location for the South Lakes. Very comfortable and equipped with everything you would need. Pub 5 minutes and 10 minutes from Cartmel. Upstairs room not suitable for elderly, however perfect for young people and kids. Lovely Garden at the rear We had a fantastic time.

Stayed for 2 nights with our friend who invited us. A little tricky to find initially but fortunately pulled up across the rd and 2 ladies pointed us in the direction. Saw the High House sign but coming from our direction didnt see it as it was on the side by the steps. Very homely/everything you needed. Loved the attic bedroom. Slept well in the King Size bed with stunning views of the hamlet. Wifi available from top floor. Quiet relaxing retreat.

First attempt at taking the dog away with us so were a little apprehensive if she would be ok somewhere strange and new.. No need go worry at all, she settled straight away! Lovely cottage with dog bowls and towels provided. Nice and quiet a little out of the way but also only 10/15 mins drive away from windermere. Lovely welcoming local pub.

Perfect home from home.. This cottage is homely comfortable and well equipped. The beds are very comfortable. Best of all is the views from the garden. I even saw a hot air balloon go over early one morning.....great spot to have a quiet cuppa in the mornings. A perfect holiday.. The cottage was immaculate and the owner made sure everything you needed was available, well equipped. Enclosed garden, perfect for dogs. Welcome pack a lovely touch and instructions on how to use appliances easy to follow. I would certainly recommend this cottage because it is situated in a tranquil area with easy access to other areas for days out. Thank you for making my break to the lakes comfortable.

Lovely homely cottage described accurately online.. Comfortable clean rooms, small bathroom and not so great if you’re tall however it was perfectly adequate for us. Dogs were welcomed and supplies on arrival were a lovely touch both for us and our four legged friends. Beautiful garden, just a shame we had poor weather as I’m sure it’s a real feature in the warmer, drier months. Overall a lovely cottage with a nice local pub with excellent food. Just one watch out there are some very fast moving vehicles that travel up/down the road as you step out of the cottage!

March 2018
Really lovely cottage.. We stayed during the cold snap, and although it was freezing outside the cottage was warm and cosy and the log burner was super. Cottage was charmingly furnished, and we especially appreciated the cakes, wine and roses left by the owner on our arrival. Location was spot on - village pub a short walk away and the food was great, beer good too! So much to do just a short drive away. Would definitely recommend this cottage.

The above boxes for 'your holiday cottage' are blank so I wasn't sure if I clicked on the correct box.. All I can put is that I would have ticked on excellent for all of them. This was the first time that we have spent xmas away from home but from this visit, it won't be the last. We both loved this cottage and the little extra that Mrs Bowen left us were heart warming. Lovely stay, lovely area, lovely cottage. Well worth going back to again. Many thanks
