We absolutely loved it here. The property is beautiful in a great location & really well done up. Christine is a wonderful host, really helpful & friendly. The property had everything we wanted, a wood burning stove, dishwasher & well equipped kitchen, lovely bathrooms, beautiful views. We will definitely visit again & will recommend it to friends & family if they are coming to the lake District

This is a beautiful cottage in a beautiful setting! The accommodation is 5 star, spotlessly clean and surprisingly spacious. Is on a farm with sheep, chickens and the owners friendly dogs...my boys wanted to bring them home! The garden is so pretty with a bridge over the stream to the chickens and a tennis net! The owners are very friendly and helpful...we had homemade scones, flapjacks and wine on arrival! We went with 3 boys aged 16, 12 and 3 years and they all loved it...wifi available for eldest!! We highly recommend this cottage for a peaceful place to stay in a beautiful part of the country. We visited the Lake District as well as Yorkshire so the perfect position. Will definitely be returning in the future.

We stayed here for 3 nights at this gorgeous cottage and can not fault it in any way. It was spotlessly clean with lots of lovely touches like the famous scones and flapjack, fresh flowers and sweets. Beds were really comfortable and showers were great. Christine and David are lovely and really friendly. We will definitely be back (if they'll have us!!)

Wow!!!! What a place. Quite frankly I don’t know where to begin with my praise for everything we experienced from beginning to end. From the goodies and little extras you wouldn’t expect, to the very comfortable quality furnishings and fully equipped kitchen, the fabulous conversion of the previous buildings into this marvellous cottage making this a real gem of the cottage holiday rental market. The views, the animals, the surroundings, the little stream running by, I could go on and on. Idyllic. If this wasn’t enough Christine and David were superb hosts. Access to the Lake District is right on your doorstep and plenty of information available in the cottage to plan your days. We will definitely be back, but for longer next time.

I stayed here for a week with a colleague when working in the area. I cannot recommend this place enough. Eggs, scones, biscuits and snacks were left out for us. Perfect decor, beds and sofas were very comfy, excellent showers, well equipped kitchen. The owners were very friendly and helpful. I would love to stay here again!

What a beautiful rental property. Just over 10 minutes from the centre of Kendal to reach. The property was very comfortable and clean. High quality furniture and fittings with lots of extras you don't normally receive in a private rental (condiments, cleaning products, shower gels, soaps etc...). Situated on the owners' farm, Grayrigg Foot Stable was a great base to explore the Lake District. We visited Kendal, Kirkby Lonsdale, Cartmel, Bowness-on-Windermere, Windermere, Sedbergh and The Lakes' Aquarium - the furthest only being just over half an hour away. It was a real treat to find warm scones and flapjacks on our arrival - together with milk and fresh eggs from the farm's chickens. The owners Christine and David were really lovely people and we enjoyed meeting the family's dogs too! The garden looked out onto a stream (a nice place to sit with a glass of wine listening to it!). Although there were no shops in the little village, Morrisons and Aldi were less than 10 minutes away to stock up on shopping - although we did enjoy eating out on our trips. Sticky toffee pudding is a must at Cartmel! We also enjoyed Pumpkins Bistro, Baba Ganoush, Brew Brothers and The Bakery at No. 4 in Kendal town centre, The Kings Arms in Cartmel does a lovely Sunday roast dinner too! Smatt's Duo Café Bar and Bistro in Sedburgh is also a recommendation. We had a thoroughly relaxing break in a great place! Thank you for great holiday!

I couldn't fault this cottage at all. It was peaceful, warm, cosy and in a perfect setting. Everything we could possibly need was included, which you don't often find in cottage rentals. Things like cooking oil, condiments, cling film, etc, and lovely touches throughout - fresh flowers, homemade scones and shortbread, toiletries. David and Christine made us feel very welcome, and when one night there was an issue with no hot water, they came that second to see if they could fix it for us (even though England were playing on the TV!). The problem had been completely resolved by the time we got back to the cottage the next day. Absolutely loved the hens in the garden and the views from every window. Just perfect.

We stayed at Grayrigg Foot Stable from 21st Dec 2015 to 28th Dec 2015. From the moment we arrived Christine made us extremely welcome. On entering Grayrigg our first impression was an absolute WOW! It continued to just get better. The cottage is immaculate, spotlessly clean, beautifully appointed, welcoming and the attention to detail is second to none. We felt immediately at home. Christine had tastefully decorated it for Christmas and we were greeted with homemade mince pies, shortbreads and fresh free range eggs, what a treat. We stayed, in what can only be described as challenging weather conditions but the cottage made it easy to stay snuggled in in its extremely warm and cosy atmosphere. We cooked often and made two full Christmas dinners in the extremely well equipped kitchen (my son and his partner joined us on Boxing Day for a second dinner!!) When we did venture out we found Grayrigg extremely well placed for accessing the rest of the Lakes and enjoyed a very relaxing cruise on Windermere two days before Christmas. Kendal is a 5 minute drive away with its many independent shops and restaurants. We look forward to returning.

Just spent an amazing week here with three young kids aged 5 years and under. What can I say... The cottage is truly beautiful. The added extras in the rooms made it easier to settle in with ease. The kids described the best part of the break as feeding the chickens and sheep. A special thanks to Christine, you made it extra special by going that extra mile in taking our boisterous boys on their mini adventures! Their repeated requests were never turned down!! Thank you x

We stayed for a week at this beautiful cottage, cannot praise it enough. Christine and David were very welcoming and we enjoyed all the goodies that Christine had made, cake, scones, flapjacks and eggs. The cottage has everything you can think of and we cannot wait to go again, we will have to take our 4 year old granddaughter next time as she will love all the chickens and sheep.

Where do I start? Everything about the accommodation and location was perfect, from the minute we arrived until the morning we regrettably had to leave. On arrival we opened the door and the conversion has been done beautifully. The open plan living space was ideal and had everything you needed. We also had the nice surprise of home baked scones with all the trimmings and Mars crispy cakes which went down a treat with our 9 year old! Fresh eggs (from the chickens outside!) made a welcome breakfast for the first few days. Christine and David were perfect hosts and my son loved the free reign of the beautiful garden at the back with the tennis being a particular favourite. The bedrooms were beautifully decorated with excellent en suites available in the twin and the master bedroom. The only disappointment was that we didn't get to use the wood burner as it wasn't cold enough. We may just have to book again in the Autumn to try this out. Perfect location for getting to all the lakes and absolutely picture perfect with the stream and animals making it a truly rural experience. Can't wait to go again.

This property met our very specific needs. We were meeting relations coming from the North and needed to be close to the M6 in case of bad weather. We also needed two bathrooms. We booked very late and still can't believe our luck in finding this lovely place. The photos don't do it justice. It has been beautifully restored in a way which combines the best of the old and new. All the fittings are high quality and the two en-suite bathrooms are 5* hotel quality. The hosts are lovely people who were helpful and friendly but respected our privacy as well. There was a cream tea, fresh eggs and flowers to welcome us and plenty of local information. Outside, the garden with hens and sheep and a small stream is delightful. The location is very convenient for Kendal and the Southern lakes. Also the Dales Way passes through the property so you could walk from the door. The Yorkshire Fells are very accessible from this location but we didn't have time to do them justice on this occasion. We would fully recommend this property as we feel it is of exceptional quality.

We had the most amazing time at Grayrigg. As soon as we got there after a long tiring journey from London, we were welcomed with a roaring log fire, home made mince pies and flapjacks. The owners couldn't be more welcoming and the cottage is so beautiful (the pictures don't do this wonderful place justice) and the setting picturesque... I would definitely recommend this place to anyone and hopefully will return ourselves.

A great welcome and the best cottage I've ever stayed in - clean, high quality furniture and fittings, well stocked, warm, cosy, beautiful location, with lots to see and do nearby. Collecting fresh eggs was a highlight of the day.

Wonderful stay at the converted stable. Freshly made scones, cream and jam was a super treat after a long journey. The owners live next door and are there should you ever need anything. Beautiful property that is equipped to a very very high standard was an absolute pleasure to be in for a break. Thank you.

The first thing to say is that the pictures don't really do this property justice! What you notice when you walk in is the attention to detail - the owners have cut no corners in making the cottage as homely and cosy as possible, and you can see quality throughout the house. The house was just the right size for a family of four, and the kids even had their own ensuite bathroom with power shower. Our bathroom was luxurious, with a lovely deep bath that we plnked the kids in the first evening. We also loved the scones waiting for us when we arrived, and had fresh eggs from the resident hens in the morning! Both rooms have flatscreen TV with freeview, as does the front room. There is also a lovely log fire, although we didn't use it as it wasn't cold enough, but we'd love to return in the winter! What can I say about the owners? Absolutely lovely couple, very friendly, and David is always on hand to offer some enthusiastic tips for a day out. Christine even played with the kids in the garden and helped us build a dam in the stream at the back of the cottage (which we later dismantled so as not to create a flood!). The house was a great base for exploring the lakes and David offered some great ideas for round trips, as well as short cuts to avoid the inevitable summer traffic hotspots. The only downside, for us Kentish folk, is that it is not close enough! Having said that, it's definitely worth the trip!

Excellent in all aspects really, and the weather was perfect which was a bonus! Great location, especially if, like us, you are interested in visiting the Lake District and the Yorkshire Dales. Only a few minutes drive to the motorway as well which was an added bonus at times. The owners (next door) were very friendly and helpful and the cottage (an old converted stable) could not really be faulted. Great facilities and all very tastefully decorated and equipped. Would definitely recommend and given the chance would stay there again... Andy S

My wife and I arrived to a lovely welcome by Christine and David. There were home made sconesw with jam, tea/coffee and home made biscuits waiting for us. The cottage had everything anyone could want on a holiday, even down to supplying hand cream in the bathrooms. The cottage is new and everything provided appeared to be to a high standard. Out the back we had a babbling brook, with chickens marooned across a small bridge on the far side. Close by was a field with more chickens, sheep and cows (no not smelly at all!). At night we could watch, out of the living room window, the sheep and cows trudge across the small hill above the barn, as they went off to settle down for the night. We normally eat out every evening when staying in a cottage. Not this place! We loved eating in at the dining table or outside listening to the lovely ripple of water running close by and watching the chickens busily going about their silly business. Blissful holiday cottage.

A beautiful property and what a welcome!! There were cookies, rice-crispie cakes, tea, coffee, etc. and everything you could possibly need. Most things brand new, very clean and cosy. The underfloor heating was a great success with the kids and the grownups liked the woodburning stove in the evenings. Altogether we had a lovely weekend and would recommend the property to anyone.

Had a wonderful holiday at Grayrigg Foot Stable. Myself, my husband and parents spent 5 nights in this beautiful barn conversion just outside of Kendal. Although the weather was mainly terrible, this made the cottage and it's wood burning stove even more enjoyable. Everything has been done to the highest standard and the cottage is very spacious. We managed to get out for walks in the local area, trips to Kendal and up to ambleside for the day. Would strongly recommend this cottage.

This is truely 5* accommodation and the owners who live next door can't do enough for you. Fresh eggs from their own chickens, scones jam and cream and fresh fruit all there waiting for us on our arrival. Being close to Kendal the Lakes are only a short drive away as are the Dales. You will not want to leave this beautiful farm house and garden. Have already recommended this accommodation to all our friends and family.

One of the best holiday homes we have ever stayed in over the last 40 years. The owners go out of their way to ensure your stay is comfortable and everything you hoped it would be. The property is stunning with everything you need to make your stay as relaxing as possible from the quality of the furnishings to the open countryside views that the Lakelands provides. The only problem that we found was that our week went far too quickly.

Booked this cottage after looking at the reviews and photos. Have to say the photos do not do justice to this fabulous cottage. Arrived on Friday afternoon to a very warm welcome from David and Christine and home baked goodies. The cottage is very spacious and furnished to a high specification. The ground floor is open plan with lovely comfy sofas and a wood burning stove - unfortunately it was too warm to light it so will have to make a return trip in the winter! The cottage overlooks fields with cows, sheep and chickens - fresh eggs for breakfast and there is a pretty garden with a stream at the bottom. The cottage is outside the Lake District National Park but it is close to Kendal which has a range of high street shops such as M&S;, Whsmith and Boots, plus Booths Supermarket and lots of independent shops. It is only a 20 minute drive to Windermere and the Lake District proper and it is also easy to reach the Yorkshire Dales as well. Overall fabulous accommodation in a lovely location.

The service from Lakes Cottage Holidays was excellent. All online, but fast & efficient. The cottage was better than expected. Very clean, warm and welcoming. The very friendly owners welcomed us with cakes and their own free range eggs which we were able to fetch our selves in the mornings from the hens running free outside. The Dales Way Walk passes through the farm for those looking for something more energetic to do. The furniture, beds, settees all very comfy and the kitchen was very well equipped and easy to use. There is a small, bubbling stream at the end of the garden and vast views of the fields with the owners sheep & lambs dotted around. Although not in "The Lakes" as such, it was only 30 mins to Ambleside and less to the beautiful villages of Cartmel, Sedburgh, Dent and Grange over Sands. Kendal itself is just 5 mins away & has a great Booths supermarket, M&S, and a good high street. We had a great week with our 16 year old son, who was pleased the internet was very fast, despite being in the countryside. We would certainly return & would recommend to anyone looking for a quiet break, but still able to visit the sites and get out walking.

We spent a week at the cottage after our wedding for a well deserved relaxing getaway. Christine and David was there to meet us when we arrived at the cottage. The woodburner was on making it warm and cosy, we also had fresh eggs and homemade cake in the kitchen. Bedroom was beautiful with high ceiling and exposed beams. We both feel the owners have taken a great care to detail inside the cottage with luxury furnishings and leaving those little finshing touches. Very quiet location, which is perfect for that all important getway from everyday noise. Location is perfect not far from Kendal for petrol, shopping and of course the Lakes. Will be booking again :-) Thank you Christine and David for our little presant too, we won't forget the cottage.
