The town still retains a lot of character with its narrow streets speckled with independent shops and traditional pubs, perfect for grabbing a tasty pub lunch and sampling the local ales, as well as an impressive 12th-century church and school which dates back to 1525. Ideally located for exploring the Dales, Kendal is just a short drive away, with its remarkable castle and informative museum.
