A brilliant places with all little touches that make it very special, form a home made cake, wine and milk.. A well stocked library of local information. This is a fantastic cottage where you can just chill in the garden or roll out into the fells. I would recommend this cottage to anyone.

Undercragg is a beautiful cottage, we loved all the old features and vintage decor.. Lots of throughtful touches. It had everything we needed and the location is spectacular. The Duddon Valley is stunning and not so busy as other parts of the Lakes.

We have just had a relaxing week at this beautiful remote cottage. Furnished in keeping with it's age with everything you would need, all towels, toilet rolls, soaps..... and wine and delicious homemade cake, left by the lovely owner. There is no wifi or mobile phone signal - so very peaceful - but there is a landline. Highly recommend this cottage.

It was the best holiday ever.. The house is absolutely brilliant. the area is amazing. we catch beautiful weather. Many walks around the house, so if you like not even need to start your car. Fortunately ther is no signal for mobile phone. This is the best things. nothing and noone brak your holiday. Just bird sings and nature. Thank you very much for being here this week. I hope we can get back here again

This is in a superb setting and is a peaceful and very comfortable cottage - our second visit and not the last.. Only two comments about improvement: a tumble dryer really should be available (especially if you are staying for more than a week) - and a dishwasher would be a real bonus! Who likes to spend holiday time washing up?! Apart from that, this is a generously equipped and lovely place - and so clean!

This is a truly authentic cottage set in the quiet Dudden Valley.. There are many walking options from the cottage itself and it is quite possible to spend a week here without the use of a car.

Beautiful rural period cottage set in some of the most untouched and stunning views in the Lake District.. Quiet and peaceful surroundings. Cottage is spotless and well stocked. The owner has thought of everything. Walks from the front door and within walking distance to a lovely local pub that serves good food and ale, about a 20 minutes walk from there is a post office and small convenience store. I would say this cottage is underestimated in description and photos. Maybe thats a good thing!

Everything you might need has been thought of and provided, even dog bowls and dog towels .. It is spotlessly clean and well thought out. There are some beautiful walks straight from the front door, the rocky walk along the river is not to be missed provided you don't mind a bit of a scramble. The garden in wonderful, safe and enclosed, it is quiet and peaceful and we have never been more relaxed - perfect.

As always we enjoyed the peace and solitude that this cottage offers due to its location and this is our third visit in five years however we were disappointed to find that the shower door still leaks, making the carpet wet.. This meant that the bathroom had a really bad smell and has put us off booking this place in the future until it is sorted out. The note on the window sill saying sorry wet carpet implies that it’s the fault of the previous occupants and it hasn’t had time to dry out. Time to rip it out and put some tiles down, carpet in the bathroom is very unhygienic.

Remote and unspoilt area of the Lake District.. Love the location and have visited many times. Plenty of walks from the door. Lovely large enclosed garden for the dog. The cottage itself is very clean and tidy and everything you would need is provided, even spare dog bowls. Enjoyed watching the sheep and lambs in the opposite field.

Undercragg is THE best cottage we've ever stayed in.. It was our 3rd visit and it never fails to meet our needs. The cottage is welcoming and there isn't a thing that you might want, that isn't already there. We've never visited a cottage that is so well "stocked" with the essentials and more. Love it so much, that we are reluctant to let anyone else know about it.

Undercragg was a real home from home, it was warm, clean and really well equipped.. The location for peace, quiet and relaxation was perfect with the added bonus of a secure garden for our little dog.

November 2017
The cottage was absolutely perfect.. Very secluded and you really don’t get any service for miles, so a complete break from the outside world. The location is fantastic with incredible views and plenty of walks on the doorstep. Very dog friendly which we loved. The Newfield Inn served some lovely homemade meals definitely worth a visit and just 5-10 minute walk down the road. This cottage and holiday has everything we could have ever asked for.
Mrs Hearn

We have just returned from a relaxing weekend at Undercragg. We wanted peace and quiet and we certainly got it. The surrounding views are stunning. The cottage was warm and comfortable with everything you could possibly need. The wine and cake was much appreciated. Our only negative would be the number of bruises on our heads from the low beams...totally our fault for not looking where we were going! We would love to go back next year

February 2016
I was particularly looking for a cottage that was tucked away in the middle of nowhere, with excellent walks from the doorstep and had a warm cosy feel with an open fire. This cottage exceeded my expectations and I had a lovely time here. The kitchen was well-stocked, there was firewood, kindling and coals provided, the rooms were warm and the beds are comfortable. The living room was cosy with nice views out of the windows and the walks from the cottage were great: rivers, glades, rock formations, crags and up through woodlands into the open fells. I didn't see anyone whilst I was there (except tiny spots in the distance)! I will be coming back!
Mrs Lightburn

May 2015
This was just ideal for us. The cottage was beautifully appointed, warm, clean and very quiet. The whole valley was quite unspoilt, like going back to the Lake District as it was 50 years ago.
May 2015
This was just an ideal cottage for us. It is situated well up the Duddon Valley, which is quite unspoilt, and like stepping back in time to the Lake District as it was 50 years ago; glorious countryside and walks from the door. The cottage is beautifully appointed, warm, and quiet : it is reached by a short tarmacked drive off the lane, and looks out to the hills over a field that when we were there was full of Herdwick lambs. There is nothing else nearby apart from a couple of barns, so it feels very secluded. Down the road, only 5 or 10 minutes walk, is the Newfield Inn where we enjoyed a couple of really good pub meals. Yes, some of the beams are low and I cracked my head a few times, but it was worth it!

March 2015
We stayed there for 4 days and enjoyed every minute, the cottage was very cosy and full of personal touches. It was clean and everything you need for your stay, we had the pleasure of meeting the lady who owns it and what a lovely lady she was. Ideal for peace and quiet if that's what you are looking for, my springer loved the freedom and plenty of walks to go on, would recommend and will definitely be going back. Thank you for letting us stay at your cottage.
March 2015
Location is everything if you like rural setting middle of know where and no phone reception or wifi for miles come to undercragg. Plus amazing walks from the cottage, huge garden, detached property ,very dog friendly. If you tall, please be aware low ceilings and beams upstairs and down at 5'5 i am short and cracked my head on the beam at the top of landing, but the house is 400 years old after all. On both visits a lovely homemade victoria sponge cake greeted us as well as a bottle of wine, shame it was Rose last time. This property is 400 years old so accept it maybe a wee bit cold perhaps rustic, etc in January. There is a spooky wooden cupboard in the living room above the door the wood carvings date from early 1700s. This was our second time staying, the place is so well looked after, whoever cleans and cares for place keeps it so well stocked, and very clean, you name it they have it, dog bowls, candles, wood, a coal shed, with a trust box, free coal and wood as a starter pack. Telly is ancient, however there are books, maps, board games, and all sorts of things to do in the cottage apart from the news in the evening we never really had the TV on. Amazing enclosed garden, location is superb, its so private apart from the occasioal farmer turning up to check on his cattle in the fields adjacent. The place has real historical importance to the area and the village of Seathwaite as its the birth place of the Reverent Robert Walker "wonderful walker" as knick named by the poet William Wordsworth. Must sees are the Newfield Inn with some rare stone floor only found in Seathwaite area, its also walking/staggering distance to the cottage, and also the church which has a very old tree in the grave yard which predates the church. Carry on past the cottage and you see some of most amazing scenery every in the duddon valley, the road follows the duddon river to cockley beck, avoid the hardknott pass into eskdale, it was one of the scariest roads I have ever seen, tight narrow and very steep. We had a lovely walk from Cockley Beck up some mountains we got some amazing views of Scafell. Down the road is the small village of Ulpha amazing woodland walks and the nearest 'tiny' shop, from Ulpha you can drive over the Berker Fell down to Eskdale Green and Eskdale Valley, or leave the car at the cottage and go for a hike up to Seathwaite Tarn. We also feel the price for a week in winter was very good value.

September 2014
This has to be the BEST cottage we have ever stayed in. We have never seen such a well stocked home. The owner obviously loves her home and ensures that visitors are catered for in every way possible. It was quiet, just how we like it, yet only 10 minutes from one of the best pubs in the Lake District. I honestly couldn't find fault with anything at all. We loved every minute and would definitely recommend it to anyone seeking peace and tranquility. LOVED IT!

A most enjoyable week with sunshine more than rain. Lovely walks from the door, Dow Crag, in particular, gives wonderful views. Undercragg cottage is one of the best we have ever stayed in; warm, comfortable, beautifully furnished and well-appointed. All the little homely touches were greatly appreciated.

January 2014
Undercragg is a lovely property in a beautiful location. It is spotlessly clean and tidy, very well equipped, warm and comfortable. The Christmas decorations were also very pretty and festive! Despite the weather we had wonderful high and low level walks from the door and thoroughly enjoyed exploring the quiet and stunning Duddon Valley; the cottage is an excellent starting point. We travelled from Dartmoor and had a wonderful holiday. I would highly recommend this accommodation and would love to return.
Mr Basnett

With a number of good walks on the doorstep this cottage is an ideal retreat for those that want to walk, and for those that do not walk. The garden is quiet and secure. The pub is 800 yards down the road.

July 2013
My second visit. Excellent in every way. Will be going again for 2 weeks next year.
Mrs Davies
July 2013
Loved everything. It was fantastic, the cottage, the location, the peace and quiet, the pub down the road after a hard days walking, the dog friendly nature of the cottage. The welcome pack of the cake, wine, milk, tea bags, everything that you could want was there. The garden was perfect for the dogs, enclosed, large and did not have to worry about them as it was totally secure, will definitely return.
July 2013
This is a lovely cottage ideal for those who want away from it all. Its a really homely cottage with lots of finishing touches, very clean and well equipped, comfortable beds but watch your head as it has very low beams and ceilings. Owner very friendly and gave good instructions, location very much in the mountains so no mobile signal. The road leading up to the cottage is reasonably good with passing places. There are walks from the door and the owner has supplied maps and books that tell you about the area which we found very helpful in planning the day trips. Definitely one that we will return to.
Mrs De Maillet
June 2013
The cottage provided everything we needed in a beautiful and secluded area of the Lakes.
Mrs Warmer
May 2013
Not having been to this particular cottage before it was fantastic to find such a glorious and remote spot. It has gone onto our definitely visit again places. The cottage is clean, comfy and warm with everything we needed. Walks from the door and away from it all. All the owner's extra touches made it homely and welcoming.
Mr Bousfield
May 2013
The property was very well equipped, in fact we didn't need to take the things we usually have to take and the fuel was very generous. The cottage is in a very remote spot, ideal if you want a quiet break. There was also a lot of nice touches, a bottle of wine, a cake and all the cleaning materials needed to mention but a few.
February 2013
Lovely peaceful cottage, with only a handful of sheep for neighbours. You are a bit cut off, as there is no mobile reception for about 8 miles around and the area is very out of the way, but there are good walks from the door, so if you want peace and quiet and don't want to do much then this is the place to go. The heating is economy 7, so can be chilly in the depths of winter and the hot water isn't abundant, but the cottage is well equipped, with a great supply of logs and coal on arrival, and a bottle of wine and home-made cake to welcome you. The pub is a five minute walk, there's a tiny post office at Ulpha, a grocer, butcher and outdoor shop 10 miles away in Broughton, anything else is further afield.
Mrs Aspin
January 2013
The cottage was everything we could have wished for and well equipped. We really didn't need to take anything! Totally secluded and peaceful, in stunning surroundings. There was a pleasant country pub less than a mile away and loads of great local walks for the dogs. The garden was large and securely fenced and there was ample parking for a few cars. We will definitely be back!
December 2012
We struggle to think of anything that was not already available at this beautiful cottage. The walks were superb from the doorstep onwards and the walled garden allowed for our Springer to have a spot of freedom whilst we indulged in our afternoon tea!
November 2012
The cottage was well equipped with everything you could possibly need and more. A lovely touch was the wine, cake and milk left for us on arrival. A lovely peaceful cottage.
Mr Headon
November 2012
The welcome pack of cake, milk, wine etc was the best we have ever had in 40 years of booking cottages.

September 2012
I particularly enjoyed the old world charm of the cottage and it's fabulous secluded location. The views were magnificent and there was wildlife to observe. It was securely fenced, meaning that I could relax and let my dog wander in and out.
August 2012
The location is picture perfect. The attention to detail was spot on.
Mr Shillito
August 2012
Great cottage in a truly remote and unwatched location. Views were amazing and no shortage of local walks to enjoy.
Mrs Williams
August 2012
We had a wonderful time and the cottage and the location was just stunning. The cleanliness of the cottage was a huge bonus. We are not used to driving on the tiny roads of England any more, but felt getting to the cottage was well worth the drive. We loved the seclusion of the cottage, after visiting lots of friends and relatives, the peace was heaven. The welcoming gift of wine and cake was a lovely surprise and the helpfulness of the owners when we needed them was great. Thank you so much!
Mr Thorpe
