Having just returned from our weeks' break this wonderful property. Although the owners live nearby, the property feels really secluded. The Cottage is certainly not little, and is very spacious inside, our two Miniature Schnauzers had a great time playing in the hall and kitchen and running around the garden. The garden is not completely enclosed, but we did let the dogs out and they happily ran around the property and did not try to run away. There are cows and sheep in the adjacent field, but there is a fence on either side to stop any pets getting through.
There is a both a family sized bathroom upstairs and a shower room downstairs. The kitchen is excellent and has everything you would require for a self catering holiday, e.g. fridge/freezer 50/50, microwave, electric oven, halogen hob and washing machine. The property has central heating and the temperature in each room can be controlled separately. We didn't need to use the heating or the wood burning stove, as the property was warm enough for us.
The village is small, and although there are no shops, there are some nearby with a large Co-op in Kirkby Stephen and a smaller Co-op in Appleby. The Sandford Arms which is close by is lovely, we went there for Sunday lunch and it was very tasty. It is £12 for one course £14 for two courses and £16 for three courses. It is also dog friendly.
What we loved the most is where the property is situated, it is in the Eden Valley, but is equidistantly placed between the Lakes, Yorkshire Dales and the Pennines. We will definitely visit again.
