Area
Author Daphne du Maurier made Polruan, a little fishing community perched atop a sloping slope on the Fowey estuary, famous. It features a little beach, is still unspoiled, and still exudes the vibe of a bygone boat manufacturing village. One of only five Polruan chain towers known to exist in England, the Polruan Blockhouse is a diminutive building constructed next to a river or a harbour to house the mechanism for raising and lowering a defensive chain to block the passage of ships during dangerous times. It is the first chain tower to be built, along with the tower on the other side of the River Fowey. The community features bars, a local shop, a gift shop and a post office. You can get to Fowey, which has a variety of upscale stores and restaurants, by taking a five-minute ferry ride. The Fowey Regatta, which takes place in August, is a fun-filled week of activities and events that features RNLI demonstrations, a funfair, breathtaking firework displays and a showcase of vintage ships.

On a steep hill so not suitable if you have walking difficulties. Mattress in back bedroom was extremely uncomfortable and needs renewing the bath is also very difficult to get in and out of. Grumbles over its well equipped had all we needed for a weeks stay the foot ferry over to fowey was great as there are more shops and places to eat there , but the bugger at the bottom of the hill in polruan does lovely food and the service is excellent. Not sure I'd visit here again as Polperro was much nicer and again more to see and do.

DAMP, DAMP, DAMP The ground floor was damp. Chunk of plaster missing by front door. Fireplace wall had brown streaks running down it, where it was damp or there had been a leak, fireplace wall in kitchen had plaster that was blown again due to the damp. Exterior wall in living room had wet patches present. Long black hairs in bath; pubic hairs in bath. Garden scruffy. Exterior paint scruffy and front door temperamental. Electrical sockets were loose on the damp chimney wall. Left within 20 mins as not fit for habitation in my view. Still attempting to get money back
