Holiday Rental Description

Holiday home
Kittiwake is one of the three Seaspray cottages based in West Pentire. The two-bedroom cottage boasts fantastic views over the Goose Rock to the Newquay coast, perfect to look at whilst enjoying your breakfast on the patio. The living area of the cottage has been recently renovated to create an open-plan living/dining and kitchen area, which is light and airy with modern coastal decor. The cottage is decorated in neutral tones with splashes of colour in each room to give it a fresh, contemporary feel. Although not completely on one level, Kittiwake is still suitable for guests who can manage a few stairs, as the staircase is not very big. The Seaspray cottages are a five-minute walk from Crantock Beach and about the same to Polly Joke (Porth Joke) Beach, making it a family or surfers haven. A few minutes' walk away is a pub, serving food and drink with the same fantastic view, as well as a cafe/bistro offering brunch, lunch and dinner, as well as coffees and cream teas. Crantock village is only a five-minute drive away, where there are two more pubs, a Londis grocery store, post office and other village attractions. Outside Kittiwake, guests will benefit from exclusive use of a patio and lawned area that boasts views over Crantock Bay.

Area
Crantock is a small Cornish village, set back from the coast, close to the popular resort of Newquay. If you want to escape the crowds, yet still be close to the action, this is the place to be. There's stunning countryside all around and lots of pretty villages to explore; however, it is the coast that dominates. Enjoy superb walks along the coastal path over dramatic cliff-tops, or magnificent surfing on beaches stretching from Watergate Bay in the North to Fistral beach in the centre of Newquay and on down the coast. There are a number of golf courses in the area, as well as National Trust properties, traditional pubs and outstanding restaurants. Newquay itself is a visitor's paradise with a wide variety of shops, pubs and restaurants, plus attractions such as the Sea Life Centre, Newquay Zoo and nearby Dairyland and Eden Project.

Region
Cornwall’s visitors are constantly tempted back to the beautiful coastline, tiny fishing villages, hidden coves and the world-class surfing. Whatever the reason, Cornwall has long cemented its place as one of Britain’s premier holiday destinations.

We stayed at Kittiwake with our 2 dogs in February. The location is wonderful with a view of the sea. This is a great dog friendly property which had all we needed, very clean and very comfortable. We would not hesitate to recommend this property and have already booked our next holiday at Kittiwake with our dogs.

We’ve stayed at Kittiwake for the past four years now, and can honestly say this is one of the nicest pet friendly places we’ve stayed in (and we’ve stayed in some terrible ones!). It ’s really difficult to find high quality, modern accommodation when you’ve got a four legged friend but Kittiwake fits the bill. It’s a five minute walk to the beach and a pub, and only ten minutes walk into Crantock where there are a couple more pubs and a shop. The accommodation itself is modern and well equipped (as you can see from the internal pictures) with everything you’d need should you want to self-cater. It’s hardly the ‘car garage’ as described in the previous review, and you can certainly see the sea from the living area while seated (although it’s sometimes a little obscured from the garden if the hedge has grown a bit high, but you know, living plants grow!). Kittiwake is one of three properties which form part of Seaspray cottages (great if you’re a big group but want separate accommodation - the other two are also let by Sykes but with different owners) and the end of one of the gardens runs side by side with Kittiwakes patio area starts, but it’s hardly an intrusion. We choose Kittiwake because it’s the furthest away from the others and isn’t really overlooked, and has its own garden. There are building works going on, and have been for the last three years, which we were warned about with every booking, but we have never had any problems with anything from the site (and the big construction work is all but finished now). We’ve also never had any problems with noise from the other properties, but maybe we’re heavy sleepers!?! A change of linen and towels is also offered if you’re there longer than a week, which is a nice touch and isn’t offered by lots of places. We like it a lot, and would certainly recommend to our family and friends (but only as long as they don’t book when we want to go!).

Upon arrival to kittiwake, we were surprised that the above picture of the holiday home is not actually the place you will stay. It is in fact a converted car garage to the rear of the advertised property. It has sea views if you stand up in the kitchen, but not from The garden. Lots of building work next door which definitely wasn’t finished summer 2019 and we had a very near miss with a scaffolding plank on our car. You can hear everything in the building behind which isn’t good when they have children awake at 6am. You are overlooked every which way. Contacted the owner who is apparently happy with their false advertising. Below is a picture of the actual building you will stay in.

The bed in the master bedroom was lumpy on one side and gave us backache.. The mattress needs replacing.

Building works at adjacent Goose Rock hotel look like they may be going on for some time and may affect vehicle access when site is operating, as well as creating noise and dust.. We had been made aware prior to going - fortunately the site was not operating during our visit. Others will not be so lucky.

It's our second visit to Kittiwake, and we love it! Perfect location, very comfortable accommodation, well equipped, clean, easy parking, with excellent accessibility to the beach, and Crantock village with a well stocked village shop and coffee shop. We enjoy lots of walking on the coastal paths, either North or South, all the beaches are dog friendly, so being able to take our dog just adds to the enjoyment of the holiday. Crantock is a wonderful place, away from the crowds of Newquay, with a large sandy beach, but also there's the very special Polly Joke Beach, if you prefer a smaller sandy cove. CBay, and the Bowgie Inn, are great for having a drink or meal, overlooking Crantock Beach. Perfect holiday, can't wait to go back!

We loved our stay in Kittiwake - it is a beautifully thought-out cottage, well equipped with lovely personal touches and lots of care gone into it.. The location is stunning and we had a wonderful week. I had one point to make - as noted by Sykes Cottage just a few weeks before our stay there was a significant amount of building work going on. The builders were pleasant and polite but they arrived at 7am and were working hard all day with all the noise and equipment that necessarily entails. There were various vehicles going up and down the side of the property including diggers, trucks and cars and also a flow of people. This intruded on our time both in the house as we could hear them from very early in the morning and in the garden. I must stress it was not their fault but it did have an impact on the peace and quiet seclusion of the property which was one of the prime reasons we booked it. We also had small children with us and it was not ideal to have them in close proximity of moving vehicles when getting them in and out of the car. I wondered if there was any possibility of some form of compensation for this intrusion. Other than that I have nothing but positive feedback for this delightful place. thank you

We absolutely loved Kittiwake and Crantock as a holiday destination.. We have two teenage boys, so the location allowed us all to be independent, and come and go as we pleased, with such easy access to the beach, and other coves, as well as the coastal paths for some great walking. Our dog Midge had a fantastic week, but was exhausted by the end of it! We hardly moved the car all week, which was a real treat. The accommodation was clean, and comfortable, with a real seaside feel in it's colours, the way it was furnished and accessorised, the space was well thought out and really sociable, with fabulous views out to sea. We enjoyed the garden and patio area (again with the wonderful view), all beautifully kept. The window cleaner and gardener visited while we were there. We've already recommended it to others, and would love to go back.

We thought the cottage was beautifully decorated and furnished very well.. The washer dryer, underfloor heating in the bathroom, and the power shower were all excellent and very much appreciated little extras! We had a wonderful holiday, mainly due to the lovely accommodation and the beautiful location!

Great sea view and nice garden but not fully enclosed if you have a dog that wanders.. Loved cottage and was worried as normally like staying right in village, but would definitely book this cottage again.
