Area
Crantock is a small Cornish village set back from the coast close to the popular resort of Newquay. If you want to escape the crowds, yet still be close to the action, this is the place to be. There's stunning countryside all around and lots of pretty villages to explore; however, it is the coast that dominates. Enjoy superb walks along the coastal path over dramatic cliff-tops, or magnificent surfing on beaches stretching from Watergate Bay in the north to Fistral beach in the centre of Newquay and on down the coast. There are a number of golf courses in the area, National Trust properties, traditional pubs and outstanding restaurants. Newquay itself is a visitor's paradise with a wide variety of shops, pubs and restaurants, as well as attractions such as the Sea Life Centre, Newquay Zoo and nearby Dairyland and Eden Project.

Region
Cornwall’s visitors are constantly tempted back to the beautiful coastline, tiny fishing villages, hidden coves and the world-class surfing. Whatever the reason, Cornwall has long cemented its place as one of Britain’s premier holiday destinations.

Wifi really poor.. DVD players dont work in living room or master bedroom. No curtains upstairs make it really difficult for young children to sleep. Windows not anywhere near soundproofed enough.

We found the property clean, warm and with everything we needed for our short break.. 8 of us stayed and we all enjoyed the space and position the house was from the beach. Every morning we walked the dogs down to the beach and returned past the village shop which baked fresh pasterie such a pan- o chocolate , Cinnamon rolls and cousants. Lovely after a brush walk on a sunny and frosty beach. Excellent property and we all said we would visit again if we had the opportunity.

Positive aspects were; easy check in, host was very pleasant, clean and well presented, quality linen, good location in village with parking, good sized bedrooms, sunny paved garden.. Less positive aspects; fabric sofa was grubby and worn, cushions also grubby, very small kitchen, ensuite shower a weak dribble, very expensive, no privacy in garden as the frequent bus appeared ! For that kind of money we expected more luxury in the detail.

House was perfect for our group, 2 families.. We had a great week and appreciated all the facilities that the house had. Plenty of room to all sit together in the lounge in the evening and the 3 bathrooms made the return from the beach and shower routine very quick and easy. Location is great, a real bonus not using the car all week and being able to walk to the beach, shop and pub. It was all the little extras that made this a really easy trip, from the soap left in every bathroom, to the coffee filter papers (who wants to make a special trip just to use the coffee machine?!), and the really large bath towels. We are already looking at booking again, at the request of our teenagers, usually so hard to please!!!

This is our 3rd year at Carpe Diem always a favourite.. Only 2 criticism’s. Planters in the garden would have been a nice touch however they have never been weeded so now more weeds than plants and just look messy. Carpets are due a vax and the stairs looked pretty dirty. We looked to book again for August 2019 but the cost of the cottage was extorniate. We are taking the kids to a 4* all inclusive platinum hotel in Spain for the same price in June instead.

Carpe Diem provides first class accommodation in a spacious , very clean modern home. 5 of us were easily provided for in the open plan lounge / kitchen, even the "children's" bedrooms were a decent size and it is in an ideal spot to visit the surrounding areas. We were initially attracted to this site by the " 5 minute" walk to the beach which is a little optimistic as the other review has mentioned. It certainly turns into a 15 minute crawl back up the quite steep hill after a tiring day. With all your beach stuff - boards, wind breakers etc.. and elderly family members or very small children you may finds you still need to take the car down the narrow lane onto the National Trust car park (which fills up fast at peak times) to save yourself such a trek. However the beach is absolutely splendid and well worth a little extra cost. Being right on a junction I did think it was noisy at times however only 2 or 3 people out of 30/40 expressed the same in the review book so maybe we are just used to a little less traffic in general. Overall Crantock is a splendid holiday location

From the Guest Book at Carpe Diem: Had a great holiday.. Went to Adrenaline Quarry, went coasteering and had a go on the zip wire. A short walk to Crantock beach so visited it when the weather wasn't great. Visited Newquay and ate lots of pasties and donuts! Really enjoyed our stay here. Could have done with a clock though as we never knew what the time was.

From the Guest Book at Carpe Diem: Had an amazing week here.. Lovely house in a great location. Close to lots of great places, short drive to Newquay and Fistral Beach. Also close to places such as The Lost Gardens of Heligan, The Eden Project etc. We stayed with another family totally 7 of us also with our 2 dogs - we fitted perfectly and had a great time. Highly recommend a walk along the beach to The Bowgie Inn. From the other family this week: Cottage was amazing, felt like home from home. Perfect location for the beach and village with its local pubs. First time back to Cornwall in 13 years and enjoyed it just as much as when we were kids. Newquay just a short drive away. Lovely holiday and would definitely stay again.

From the Guest Book at Carpe Diem: Beautiful cottage in such a great location.. Everything is catered for and all we could ask for. So glad we picked this cottage for a special family holiday. Our 18 month old loved Crantock and Perranporth beaches. We have been coming to Cornwall for years and this place is the best yet. Wee'd recommend a visit to Healey's. To eat/drink we would recommend The Bowgie Inn, The Old Albion and The Smuggler's Den. We love St Ives too. Hope to be back - didn't want to leave.

Our stay in Carpe Diem was lovely. I visited with my fiancé, mum, dad, sister and dog. The cottage is well presented, clean and beautifully decorated throughout. They accept dogs and the garden is large and secure. The location is perfect! A 5 minute walk into the village centre and a 10-15 minute walk from the beach. Also a brilliant location to drive to other areas of cornwall as you're not too far from anywhere. Only a 10 minute drive from Newquay. Crantock beach is stunning! Would recommend this lovely rental for any families wanting a relaxing break in beautiful Cornwall.

Review from the Guest Book at Carpe Diem: We have had good week here with a couple of stunning sunny days.. Have been to this area a few times before but the beaches still take our breath away. The dogs have loved the long, long walks on Crantock, Perranporth and Holywell. The common land at Perran Sands Holiday Camp is a fantastic dog walking area. Miles of heathland. Cottage is well placed for visiting various attractions. Thanks to Tracey for the cleanliness of the house. It was spotless. Would recommend C Bay Cafe up the road for breakfast.
