Great holiday, beautiful cottage.. Wonderful area for walks with the dog etc. The A6 could be a little noisy.

The photos of the property did not do it justice.. .. it far exceeded our expectation. Lovely touches on arrival like fresh flowers, coffee, milk and even doggy treats! A beautiful place to relax with our family and a great point to explore from. The Nordic Cabin was a magical place to sit in the evening. We will definitely return.

The perfect location, as we were spoilt for walks all on our doorstep and barely needed to use the car.. The Nordic Cabin was a great place to unwind!

My husband and I along with 2 friends have just spent a long weekend at Oak Tree Cottage.. Whilst the cottage was beautifully clean, the facilities are not good. We were not met with the warmest of welcomes. We arrived 20 minutes early and were made to sit in the car until 3pm, whilst the own did the cleaning. So believe me people when it say no early check in, they mean it!!!!!! The cottage is supposed to be suitable for 6 people, it sleeps 6 very comfortably, but the lounge and kitchen area doesn't. It does have outdoor space which would make it easier in summer if you can shout over the noise from the A6. So if there are 4 adults who are happy to eat out or have takeaways, it would be ideal.

Very comfortable, warm cottage in beautiful setting.. The cabin with central wood fire, greatly enjoyed. Easy access to woodland, canal., High Peak Trail and main road, hence Cromford, Matlock Bath etc. and main road, hence Cromford, Matlock Bath etc. Were able to cycle in to Cromford with children and also walk up to Black Rocks without having to use car. Wonderful area for scenery, history and attractions.

We had a lovely week, family of 6, all ages plus our two dogs.. A nice welcome on arrival by the owners and a much appreciated tea tray and fresh flowers. The cottage has everything you need and you soon feel at home. Location is off the main road as stated but you really would never know, limited road noise and the most amazing walks literally on your doorstep. Cromford can be walked into by crossing the road and going along the canal path, a pleasant round hours walk for basic items, some nice coffee/tea shops plus art gallery etc , pubs for evening meals, supermarket a short drive away. A nice spot central to many attractions and walks, Dovedale, Black Rocks, Caverns , Bakewell, Bike hire at Carsington Lake, Mam Tor to name a few, The outdoor cabin is an extra attraction with a fire for chilly late nights, this was enjoyed by the younger adults in our group, overall we had everything we needed and couldn’t find anything to fault, personally I wouldn’t have wanted to take young children due to lack of grassed garden to play in but there is an enclosed patio area with furniture and a field which is available to use. Wouldn’t hesitate to book again in the future. Thanks for some good memories.

The closeness of the cottage to all surrounding places of interest and the lovely walks surrounding the cottage without having to drive anywhere if you didn't want to.. Pacticually enjoyed the cromford canal walks ! Will definately go again, enjoyed every minute and the cottage was very cosy with great outdoor space.

Oak tree cottage was wonderful, one of the best cottages we have stayed in.. A very nice welcome by the owners who explained everything about the cottage. Great location for exploring the peak district or just a walk through the woods or a stroll along the canal both a few minutes walk from the cottage would definitely recommend a stay in oak tree cottage.

We have stayed at Oaktree Cottage a number of times and it is a huge family favourite.. the cottage itself is so clean and comfortable with lots of space to relax. The addition of the cabin with a log burner meant we could sit (almost) outside and watch the birds on the feeders before enjoying the fire and the company as evening fell. The location is wonderful. At the back, there are walks straight into the woods and at the front you can cross over the road and enjoy a walk by the canal. The industrial heritage of the area is endlessly fascinating. I cannot recommend the property highly enough, it has provided us with so many special memories over the years.

Lovely, well equipped, cottage and very welcoming.. We have one suggestion - include information in the Welcome Book about recycling.

The cottage is lovely, very well equipped and the owners very helpful.. If someone with poor mobility will be staying there, just be aware that there is a small step into the downstairs bathroom and a lip to step over to get into the shower. Otherwise the accessibility is very good. The only other thing to be aware of is that it can be tricky to find - particularly at night! Our two satnavs couldn't locate it by address or postcode, but the owners talked us in! Don't let that put you off, though: it's a lovely cottage, with nice touches like biscuits for both humans and their furry friends, and the cabin is gorgeous! Not bad phone signal for this bit of the world, good Internet connection and lots of lovely walks right on the doorstep. I'd definitely stay here again.

Sykes cottages always come up trumps when finding a cottage for us to stay in.. This is the third time we have used them and we will continue to do so. Oak Tree Cottage was perfect! Beautifully decorated and proportioned rooms. There were only two of us and 2 dogs, but there is seating for 6 in the lounge and around the kitchen table. Two bathrooms and three good sized rooms. Very efficient heating and hot water. The location set back off the main road, but very quiet. The whole property is dog proof - we have a 16 week old puppy who remained contained. There is the immediate surrounding space outside the cottage, and then a fully fenced field across the drive way which is perfect. Walks from the cottage were great, up into the woods then onto the High Peak Trail, or an easy walk along the canal to Cromford takes about 30 minutes. I thoroughly recommend both Sykes and Oak Tree Cottage.

September 2018
As a family group of 4 generations from 4 months to 88 years old we found Oak Tree Cottage an excellent place to stay.. It was spotless, very comfortable and had everything we needed for an enjoyable stay. We were met by the owners who very kindly showed as around. There was a very welcome tea tray ready for our arrival plus milk in the fridge, fresh flowers and a bowl of freshly picked apples and plums which was a very kind thought. The patio area outside was a very good spot to sit and watch the birds on the feeders whilst the Nordic cabin was great for the evenings. There is also easy access to walks through the woods from the field and just across the road walks along the Cromford canal were a pleasure and easy going with a pram. After walking to Cromford we had an enjoyable meal in the Boat Inn and walking to Whatstandwell we found The Family Tree an excellent place for lunch. I can also recommend a visit to Carsington Water for walks, bird spotting, shopping and food and a ride on the Ecclesbourne Valley Heritage Line to the pretty little town of Wirksworth where we found the staff at the Hope and Anchor very friendly.Yes as previously mentioned there is some road noise as the cottage is just off the A6 but this in no way spoiled our holiday here. I would definitely recommend Oak Tree Cottage and would love to return in the future.

If you follow the satnav it does not find the cottage even the Sainsbury’s driver had to ring for directions.. The directions given on your details are easier to follow but the entrance is easy to miss especially as it is a very busy road. The cottage is lovely and I would recommend it.
Mr Arkell
July 2018
Not really.. As described and the countryside around was great , particularly for the kids.
Mr Sellors
July 2018
Excellent accommodation, really helpful owners meeting us and explaining everything on our arrival.. Very homely, great location and very good facilities. Highly recommend!
Ms Williams
July 2018
Just that the property is alongside a busy road.. The noise was very audible, and yet the tone of the description was that we were in the middle of farm land. I imagine that some people would be very bothered by the noise. The directions could have been a bit more detailed. Two of our party found it very hard to find. Added landmarks would be of great help. The owners were there to meet up and explain things, which was really helpful. In this weather, which I know is exceptional, a couple of fans would be useful. The upstairs twin room was very hot at night, even with our own fan!!

July 2018
This cottage is beautifully decorated and kitted out.. The layout was really good as the downstairs bedroom and shower room were on one side of the living area and could be made private by closing a door. Janice and Barry were welcoming and helpful throughout our stay. Barry even popped over at very short notice to replace a bleeping smoke alarm battery. A beautiful vase of roses were a lovely welcoming touch too. The towels were amazingly fluffy, white and soft and they supplied plenty of towels for the kitchen as well. They even provided plenty of dish washer tablets, soap in all the bathrooms and loads of games like pictionary in case the weather was wet. We were however blessed with glorious weather so the BBQ and pizza over (yes, really) were brilliant. The location suited us very well. We could cross over the A6 to the canal for a gentle flat walk into Cromford or head out the back, up the hill to join the High Peak Trail towards Black Rock. We would thoroughly recommend Oak Tree Cottage.
Mrs Gilbert
May 2018
The cottage address was misleading.. I quoted that given to Sainsbury for a food delivery and they tried to deliver somewhere completely different. The postcode was spot on on our phone satvavs but it was the 1 High Peak Cottages that confused things. The address should just be Oak Tree Cottage High Peak Junction, Near Cromford. We did eventually get our food after several phone calls with Sainsbury's customer service, the local store and the driver and we had to venture out to eat!!
Mrs Hodgson

This was one of the nicest cottages in which we have ever stayed.. The owner was extremely welcoming, and the cottage was extremely clean, exceptionally well equipped and just perfect for our needs. September 2016
An excellent cottage: comfortable and very well appointed.. Mr and Mrs Wilmot, owners, met us on our arrival by prior arrangement and, despite being about to go away on holiday themselves , gave us a full and most helpful briefing.. The particular configuration of the house was very important for us as a friend joining us has serious mobility problems and the downstairs bedroom and bathroom were therefore necessary. Altogether a very well equipped cottage.
