After the loss of my Dad a couple of months ago and running our own business, we were more than ready for a time out where we were looking for some peace and tranquility ... this place suited us perfectly. We enjoyed a long weekend of successful fishing, relaxing in the hot tub, beautiful surroundings and time to ourselves. The service both before our stay and during was easy and reliable, the lodge was beautiful, the bed comfortable and the shower delightfully hot and powerful. The hot tub was a lovely treat each evening too. It was lovely not having cars driving around so a welcome choice to keep cars atop the bridge, but don't worry, a golf buggy is available to help bring your luggage to and from the lodge driven by Brendan. IF I HAD to make a couple of suggestions, the kitchen is very well equipped but maybe some salt, pepper and cooking oil might be helpful for future guests (we did have a slight issue with the smoke alarm going off everytime we opened the oven door too) and maybe some more hooks on the back wall but these are seriously just us being extra fussy. The luxurious dressing gowns were a lovely touch, and well used and we sincerely hope we'll find the time to be back one day.

Everything was great prior to arrival, communications were clear and easy to follow. Once we arrived, Brendan helped us with our bags and had the hot tub warmed up and ready to go. The lake is lovely, the scenery is great and everything about the setting is so peaceful and relaxing. However, despite how private we thought our time would be (the Oak Lodge isn’t overlooked by the other lodges), we did have issues. As we thought we were in a position where no one could see into our lodge, we saw no issue in leaving the blinds open during the daytime. These lodges are aimed at couples – no children and no pets are allowed – so it’s unsurprising to assume that couples will want to “enjoy” their time together, so to speak, and be left undisturbed. This wasn’t the case. Twice we just happened to see Brendan walk onto the decking – from where there is a clear view inside – head around to the hot tub and place a tablet inside (for cleaning, presumably). The first time this happened, he knocked on the side of the lodge, then walked on before we could answer. The second he didn’t even knock. Fortunately, on the first occasion, we just happened to be sat relaxing. The second time we were naked. Luckily the blinds were closed just enough that he didn’t see anything (we hope), however the hot tub is directly next to the lodge – and the lodge is not soundproofed. He could have heard anything. We were fortunate that my wife just happened to see him cross the decking through a gap in the blind. He had our number, so we don’t see why he couldn’t have messaged us asking if it was okay to come round and see to the hot tub. We don’t think he realised this was inappropriate, but it was unsettling and ruined what otherwise would have been a nice stay.

Wonderful stay, perfect getaway for couples. Bit of fishing in the lake, and views were stunning! Hot tub ready for our arrival. Lodge has everything needed including underfloor heating and netflix. Would highly recommend. Alpacas were an added bonus. Nice local countryside for walks and country pubs for meals. Highly recommend.
