Area
Wallingford has a history dating back to King Alfred and it was at Wallingford that William the Conqueror crossed the Thames with his army, before marching on London. Wallingford Castle was built at his command to cement it's royal importance, and during its lifetime has played host to many royal visitors including King John, Henry Vl and Edward the Black Prince, to name but a few. Unfortunately, what remains of it now is only impressive earth works but some of the stones were re-used to build the St Mary-le-More Church which can be found near the centre of the town.

Region
The Home Counties comprise the counties that surround London and include Bedfordshire, Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and Middlesex. Although mostly built up, they include some fabulous scenery and attractions which are well worth a visit.

This is an idyllic spot but it should not be at the expense of the basics. The property is rated by Sykes Holiday Cottages as 4 ticks “Excellent standard throughout”, but in my opinion it would be more correctly described as old and tired. However, the main issue is the cleanliness. A number of reviews have mentioned that the property needs a deep clean, and it really does – I wish I had read them first!

We had an excellent stay in Ninea, the cottage is spacious and well equipped. The location is unbeatable and well placed for nice walks along the path. We had prompt and helpful responses to questions from the property manager before our stay. We are already planning our next trip back.

The Thames-side situation and views were perfect, as was the weather.. Wallingford is a delightful little town and shops and restaurants were easy to access on foor from Ninea. It was also perfectly situated for exlended walks. Loved every minute.

The house is in a beautiful setting overlooking the river and has a lovely garden and patio, it is very peaceful and yet an easy 5 minute stroll to the village for a news paper and coffee and supermarket ..

On the river was fine and the view was lovely.. But The property was not as clean as we are used to. The carpet was dirty, and there was crumbs left on the coffee table. No coffee! Bathrooms could do with a thorough clean and maybe a fresh coat of paint. I was very disappointed as we have self catered for the last 8 years. At this moment in time I would not book with your company again. I know this is a personnel option

We had a fantastic week at Ninea.. The weather was hot and dry which meant we could make full use of the wonderful garden, including a spot of fishing from the decking. The wildlife was fantastic, swans with signets, ducks, kingfishers and red kytes. The house is in easy walking distance of ample places to eat and drink, antique centre, chemist, supermarket, post office etc. We really enjoyed renting an electric boat for 2 hours on the Thames as well as taking a walk along the Thames path. We chose to leave the car parked at the house and took a bus ride into Oxford (great value at £6 return ticket 2019). The house was well equipped and comfortable but could do with a little updating in places. The very pale carpet did have some marks on it and I would have worried about adding to this if the weather had been wet. Also, the patio area and decking, was fantastic, but in need of a little maintenance. Overall we had a really relaxing week at Ninea and would have loved to stay longer. Wallingford is lovely and the people were really friendly. We would highly recommend Ninea and will definitely return in the future.

wallingford is a quirky little town which is nice to have walk around (no need to take the car as its on your doorstep) the dolphin pub is quite nice and if you eat in there, you will not walk out hungry! as said the river is at the bottom of a well maintained garden, which is handy as my husband is an avid angler. i know there has been issues with the heating/boiler, this has now been resolved as a new one has been installed, there has also been areas of redecoration and skylight cleansing also the baths have been re-sealed which tell me former complaints have been listened to and attended to! we'll be back again...as often as possible!

The cottage was beautiful! So spacious, well appointed and perfectly located. Very picturesque right on the Thames, with birdlife and rowers aplenty, even in late November. Wonderful to have off-street parking.

Linen ,surfaces, bathrooms and kitchen and living space all clean.. But dirt around inside rims of all patio doors/Windows and cobwebs inside skylights clearly not been cleansed for long time and as this is bungalow they are easily accessible. Property needs maintenance, glazing old and condensation in all rooms each morning, one bedroom still has single glazing and looks bad. Sealant in all bathrooms coming away, loo seat loose, main bedroom door won't shut, constantly running tap in cloaks toilet, couldn't use shower as unable to turn dial- did text housekeeper and she said previous guest must have turned it too tight. Clearly not checked before we arrived and I didn't try to force it in case it broke. Lock to back door unable to remove key once locked! Some wall and ceiling paintwork needs attention. I don't dig deep looking for problems all of this was obvious from outset. Location and space property offered was excellent but for the price and rating I expected a much better maintained property.

In 22 years of weekends away twice a year this stay is the worst that we have experienced. It was exceptionally cold with inadequate heating. Even with cold weather one would expect to be as warm as at home! The owner stated that we should have filled in an issues review form. We did but it disappeared after we left. There were lots of cobwebs in the skylight, one double bed had paper, dust and dirt underneath. The patio doors are old, rusty and dirty around the tracks. This property is resting on its location laurels. The location is excellent but that's it. Worst of all I have been made to feel a liar. I would not recommend this property or Sykes Cottages

Excellent location, rural but the convenience of a small market town in your backyard. As the say "a house is all about location" well this is house really beautifull located. House is self shows it self very well on pictures. But quality in real time is a bit different. Bit damp, everything is painted white but badly done, finishing in the house is poor. Enough square footage to live in comfort. But all in all good do with not a little tlc but a lot of tlc.(roof/drainpipe especialy) Very nice lawn, decking, beautiful location for a big garden party. Parking your car is possible, there is a kind of garage without a roof (Of road parking) but not with the easiest entry . The lacking of a roof and the big tree that covers the parking space your car looks terrible after a night being parked there. So all in all, a mixed picture. We paid the top fee because of the season, for that amount of money the quality could be a bit better. Thats the reason for the three stars, in the low season the value for money balance is a bit better. Last thing washing machine only 3 kg, and no tumble dryer.

Perfect location.. Beautiful garden right on the River Thames. Short walk to all facilities including buses to Henley in one direction and Oxford in the other if you want to leave the car behind. Spacious rooms all on one level.

Lovely house in a tranquil location, in a quirky little town.. Perfect space for my husbands birthday celebration. House itself could do with a bit of tlc but modern furniture and all utilities available.

We booked to stay at the house for the end of the fishing season. Accommodation is well appointed with wonderful views and access to a good section of the Thames. There are 4 bedrooms, each of which sleep 2 people and a couple of bathrooms. House has everything you could need for a holiday. Only slight downside was the heating, which took a bit of working out. All in all, one of the better holiday lets we have used on the Thames, close to the village but far enough away to be able to enjoy peace and quiet. Only drawback was the parking, there are spaces for 2 cars only. Nevertheless, we were suitably impressed that we have booked the same house for next March already.

Very high standard furniture and fittings.. Excellent wi-fi. Everything white and modern inside. Lovely garden and good patio furniture (although no sun loungers). We enjoyed watching the boats go by and the wildlife. Everything in walking distance - Waitrose, pubs and restaurants. We had an excellent holiday. Parking in drive a bit tight (and cars got covered in sticky stuff from tree) but there was parking in the street available. Wallingford is a really lovely town. We wished that we lived there all the time!
