In summary: the cottage is clean, warm and well-equipped. The owner is helpful and lovely without being intrusive. The village shop sells great bread, wine and beer. We had a fabulous time, despite some challenging weather. Hexham, Corbridge and Hadrian's Wall are close by, providing great walks both in town and country. Each day we came back at sunset and lit the fire (very easily which is not usual for us - and many thanks for the free logs and kindling), then opened a bottle and cooked dinner. Everything was so easy. We appreciated the care taken to make us happy. There was even bird food for us to put out on the feeder opposite the dining table window! There were none of the irritations that sometimes occur in holiday cottages such as a dirty and scratched frying pan, or no bin bags, or no washing up liquid, or not enough wine glasses. Small things, but when owners take care of them they help make the transition from home to holiday a smooth one.

Moorgair is the cosiest, cleanest and best equipped holiday cottage we've been to, and we've been to quite a few over the years. It is equipped with good quality appliances, the finish of the decor is immaculate and is spotlessly clean (okay, I admit it. I did run my finger across the top of the door frame- no dust at all) - there has been a lot of attention to detail to get this place spot-on. Gordon, the owner is friendly and approachable and lives next door, so is easily on hand should there be a problem, but on the other hand he is in no way obtrusive. The cottage is on a quiet country lane, but the local attractions are within easy reach. Even on the one day of our visit when the weather was just too dismal to venture out, we were quite comfortable and content to just sit and chat; even though there is an excellent range of books, games and dvds to explore. All in all we had a wonderful week at Moorgair - thank you Gordon (and Dory, Bentley and the alpacas)

Set in a perfect, quiet location, Moorgair is a really lovely cottage. It has everything you need, without a lot of clutter, and is extremely cosy and comfortable. A lot of thought has gone in to making this a great place to stay, whether you are couples, or a family with all the extras you might need. It is incredibly clean - and looks like it's just come on the holiday market! The host, Gordon, was so helpful and nice to communicate with, from the initial enquiry and booking, and definately whilst we were there. Can't recommend it highly enough!

This was the 3rd time we’d stayed in Gordon’s gorgeous cottage, and yet again it didn’t disappoint. A clean, cosy home from home, Gordon keeps it pristine. It’s a perfect base to relax and recharge and forget about life for a while. Hexham is a beautiful place to walk, eat and shop, even as we did take part in the Tyne Green parkrun! Slaley community pub is a real gem too and just a brisk walk or short drive away, Sunday lunch is a must and a great way to start your holiday at Moorgair. Already booked up for stay number 4.

I can only reiterate what has gone before - fantastically presented cottage in a stunning location. Gordon and Catherine are attentive without being overbearing and will help out in any way they can - just knock and they will be there! This was our second stay and (needless to say) it will not be our last. In fact, we have already booked next year!

My friend and I spent a week at Moorgair in June 21. The cottage is a delightful place to stay, the owners have achieved a good balance between modern functionality, e.g. the well-equipped fitted kitchen and bathroom, and more traditional furnishings although not old-fashioned. We appreciated the many touches that make a big difference like tissues in every room; plenty of spare bags for the rubbish bins; plenty of hand-gel and other Covid-safe supplies; large duvets; good quality towels, linen, fixtures and fittings; attractive ornaments without cluttering the place. I slept in the twin room and as I walked in after a long hot drive it was a great pleasure to see the soft pastel harmonious colours. There was plenty of room to store my clothes, the bed was very comfortable and I appreciated that the quilt cover was a double or king, certainly bigger than a single so none of the usual problems of it falling off or me waking up with a cold back. The sound proofing seemed good as when my friend stayed up to watch TV I couldn’t hear it. Moorgair is in a beautiful tranquil rural location, surrounded by fields and trees. The cottage itself is private with it’s own garden and outdoor furniture. I believe the owners operate a working farm so there are cattle, sheep and other animals in the fields from time to time – nice for a townie. It is well placed for visiting many of the charming villages, towns and cities in the North East as well as attractions such as Hadrian’s Wall and for walking. The owner lives next door and as other reviews have remarked was always polite and very helpful but never intrusive. It was a delight to stay at Moorgair. My friend and I consider ourselves fortunate to have found it and would be very pleased to recommend it. Thank you for providing such a lovely place and for being such nice hosts.

A very comfortable, cosy cottage in the heart of rural Northumberland. Within easy reach of Northumberland National Park, Hadrians Wall, Cheviot Hills and Durham & Newcastle. The owners did a brilliant job in deep cleaning the property before we arrived and everything was geared to keeping us safe during the pandemic. The owner, Gordon, also lived next door to deal with any questions we had,

The cottage is very well equipped and very comfortable. Great care had been taken to follow the Covid guidelines. The owner lives next door and is extremely helpful , but as others have said - not intrusive. We are frequent visitors to Northumberland and usually stay near the coast. However the scenery close to the farm is outstanding and a drive up to Allenheads is highly recommended. The cottage is also close to Hexham and Corbridge for shopping and cafes. Our grandchildren enjoyed the great play park at the Derwent Reservoir visitor centre. We also saw red squirrels - a first for us. A great week and a great find.

Picture this. Trapped at home for months on end, at the mercy of circumstance. Having no luck securing a property anywhere and having given up hope. Then, a well timed phone call from Gordon saves the day. Needless to say, we as a family had a terrific time at Moorgair cottage. A tranquil abode in a serene and dramatic landscape. A happy place in a very unique part of England, with its own distinct identity. I think it's fair to say we will return.

Just returned from a week's stay at Moorgair Cottage. It was exactly what we needed. It is in a peaceful and very pretty spot but within easy driving distance to Hexham and other nearby attractions (Corbridge Roman remains and Dilston Physic garden both open and definitely worth a visit). We just wanted somewhere to relax and to enjoy some walks and little trips out. This place was perfect. Despite Covid19, the cottage is very well equipped and had everything we needed, (the kitchen is tiny but I managed to cook a roast dinner in it no problem!). The cottage was also spotlessly clean and extremely comfortable. The owner, Gordon, and his Partner Catherine were lovely - very helpful and even offered the opportunity to meet the resident alpacas on our last day which was a real treat. We also enjoyed a day out to High Force waterfall (actually the Low Force waterfall that you see on the walk to High Force is prettier). Overall, a really enjoyable and relaxing week and excellent value for money.

My partner and I had a wonderful week based here a 15 minutes drive from Hexham. Glorious setting adjacent to a farm. Lots of wildlife to see including bats and hares. The cottage was very clean on arrival and the owner provided additional sanitisers. The cottage is very well equipped and has a good sized bathroom with a bath/shower. The kitchen area is small but well laid out. I think this place is ideal for two adults plus two children. Would be a little cramped for more than two adults. You can walk to the local pub in 20 minutes and it has a restaurant attached. Close to enough attractions to make it an ideal base for exploring This part of Northumbria. Great host who was helpful but not intrusive. We hope to return in the future.

A really warm and comfortable stay in this lovely cottage. Well equipped for cooking Christmas dinner and with a well behaved wood burning stove to add to the atmosphere. Plenty of parking and outside space, and the added bonus of alpacas to talk to! Thank you for a wonderful Christmas holiday!

After a long drive from Dorset we were very pleased to find a lovely clean house with all the things we needed and more. It is lovely and quiet and it is very peaceful. It is very close to hexham and waking up to all the wildlife is very theraputic. There is plenty of room for parking and there are lots of different places near ,such as hexham abbey,to explore.

After a long drive from Wiltshire it was great to find the cottage easily, and not far from Hexham with its shops and restaurants. The cottage itself was ideal for what we wanted, with lots of space, and in a quiet location. There were plenty of places to visit, not too far away, with easy driving, on quiet roads.

Moorgair Cottage is a well thought out self catering place.. It is comfortable with good quality furniture and it is very clean. The bed linen is beautiful and the kitchen is very well equipped. The host is friendly and helpful. The cottage is in a beautiful area and a good base to explore, with many National Trust and English Heritage places to visit. Corbridge is close by with nice walks and quaint shops. A truly lovely place to stay with lots of wildlife to watch from the window. I had never seen a hare close up, till going to Moorgair! Thank you.

The cottage was lovely and cosy everything that you needed was to hand including a washing machine and tumble dryer in the summerhouse. Gordon the owner was very nice and helpful and highlight of the week was being able to feed the Alpacas he has on his land.

This is a fantastic cottage. It's a little off the beaten track - with all the advantages that brings - dark skies, walking from the front door, quiet location. We went in April - so breakfasted to the sight of lambs playing in the field outside the window. Just lovely! Decor is really good. It's neat tidy and extremely well presented. As holiday lets go, it's up there as one of the best we've ever stayed in. It's well heated and cosy - we turned the thermostat down while we were there despite visiting during a cold snap. Gordon, the owner, farms from next door and is really welcoming and helpful. It's well located for pretty Corbridge and Hexham, and within easy striking range of the wall and associated sites. Just down the road is the Rose and Crown Slaley, community pub with cracking food and excellent beer. Ten out of ten from us, would absolutely recommend a stay!

This was our 2nd visit and a 3rd is planned to this idyllic spot. This must be testimony to our appreciation of all that the cottage offers:- 5*+ accommodation, in a unique and peaceful location. All professionally organised by the owner/manager, Gordon, who has always been extremely considerate and helpful. This time we reacquainted ourselves with the (nearby) charming Hollybush Nursery/cafe and its neighbouring reclamation yard! Delightful little things that can make all the difference while on holiday. Within easy access there are stunning NT properties and heritage sites as well as scenic coast and countryside. The local village of Slaley, boasts (rightly in our view) a magnificent Community owned pub (The Rose and Crown) where you are made to feel so welcome. This is one of the best rural locations which, in our view, allows you to “escape to the country” and actually feel the benefits.

We visited the cottage for a week with our 2 kids. Gordon was a total gentleman, very very helpful, friendly and polite. The cottage had everything we needed and worked very well for us, The location was fantastic, out of the way enough to feel very quite and away from things, but close enough for meals/drinks out etc as well as being within easy reach of Hadrian's Wall, Beamish, the beach etc. We would highly recommend it and may well be returning! Thanks Gordon

We were in need of a holiday after a very hectic year. This cottage was just the place. It is adjacent to a working farm, but we never heard a thing,it was so quiet. The cottage is well-equipped and the beds were so comfortable that we slept in some mornings. Hexham is about 6 miles down the road, you can get the train from there to Newcastle which is a beautiful and very friendly city. The cottage was an ideal base from which to go out and about. Gordon, the owner is very approachable and pleasant. I would have no hesitation in recommending a holiday here.

Moorgair is a little gem in the Beautiful Northumberland countryside. So quiet, peaceful and relaxing. The cottage is clean and very well presented, everything you need was close at hand and Gordon’s attention to detail is second to none. Everything you need is there from the moment you walk in, little things like biscuits and milk, tea coffee and sugar, toilet rolls and washing up liquid, that in other places we’ve had to provide we’re all taken care of. Wish we could’ve stayed longer this time but will definitely go back, it was a shame it was booked for Christmas this year or we would’ve snapped up the chance to spend our festive season there. Well done Gordon a “big thumbs up” to you

We really liked Moorgair Cottage and its very helpful owner Gordon. The cottage was very nice and comfortable and more spacious than the photos suggested. It was in a lovely and quiet position in the middle of the countryside but in easy distance from Slayley (nice pub), Hexham (bustling little town with an interesting Priory) and Corbridge (where we had our best meals of the week in Ilpiccolo). Also great walking country around Hadrian's Wall. Very much recommended!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Moorgair. The cottage was just as described. There were only 2 of us but I could see that it would definitely be a suitable place for a family. The cottage was very clean and well appointed with good quality furnishings. Nice comfy beds. There were many little extras - tourist info, books & games, videos. Even milk & shortbread waiting for us on arrival. Moorgair is ideally situated. We were visiting from Canada and used the cottage as our base for exploring the Hexham area and the Holy Island coastline. It was a pleasure to meet Gordon and enjoyed talking with him. Of course the Alpacas were an added bonus!

To step into a holiday let, with this level of cleanliness, comfort and warmth is a very rare commodity.. The owner was fantastic, was so welcoming, also non intrusive, but there if you needed anything,I can’t praise this cottage highly enough, the location is secluded, but on the doorstep of many of Northumberland’s top places to visit! At the end of the day, you’ll only find out how good it is by staying here!.We will certainly be coming back!!

We could not have asked for a more pleasant place to stay.. Moorgair is situated in the beautiful surroundings of Northumberland and handily placed for exploring Northumbria, Cumbria, County Durham and beyond. The cosy accommodation was first class and had everything we could want and more. Gordon who owns the cottage and the farmhouse to which it is attached was the most friendly and easy-going host and it was a pleasure to be able to spend a week there. The only thing which would have made the our stay even more perfect would have been the luxury of more time to spend visiting the places we just didn’t have time to get to - something we intend to address by returning in the near future. A fantastic holiday in fantastic accommodation.

We had a lovely week in this beautiful cosy comfy cottage with wonderful views, the furniture and contents are to a high standard. Gordon is a friendly accommodating host, who tries to make sure everything is as you need it. Meeting his Alpacas was a delight? Sitting in the cosy lounge with the log burner going while watching a DVD was a cosy delight indeed. The local village shop and pub are also great, both of which are community owned. The friendly community feel was wonderful. We had a relaxing peaceful week and are eager to return.

We had a really enjoyable stay at Moorgair. It is in a lovely location on a farm which if you have children is great as they can feed the animals , especially the Alpacas . The cottage is clean , well laid out with lots of facilities. It was an ideal base to explore the attractions. Very convenient for exploring Hadrian Wall . Gordon was very friendly and helpful. There was so much to do and see that we will book it again as we did not have enough time to see everything .

Moorgair is a delightful cottage set in the peaceful Northumberland countryside. The bedrooms were ideal for our family of 4 (2 kids under 5) and downstairs was cosy and welcoming. The kids quickly got to exploring the garden and spotting the different animals on the farm. The location is perfect too, Alnwick, Durham, Sunderland & Bamborough were all about an hour by car. There's plenty to see more locally too with Hexam and the stunning Corbridge on the doorstep.

August 2018
Moorgair is the perfect base from which to explore stunning Northumberland and beyond. In a week we only managed to scratch the surface of what is available to see in this stunning part of the world but we still managed to get as far afield as Dumfries in Scotland as well as to Beamish in the South and all points in between. The cottage itself is beautifully-equipped, light and airy and most comfortable with every amenity one could wish for. Gordon, the owner who lives in the main property to which the holiday accommodation is attached could not have been more friendly and was a pleasure to meet. Despite being located in peaceful surroundings away from the hustle of town, the small village of Slaley with its shop and pub is only a mile or so distant and the large town of Hexham is just 6 miles further down the road with access to large supermarkets, hospital (which hopefully won’t be necessary to visit!) and other amenities such as restaurants, petrol stations and the like. Moorgair is handily placed for getting out and seeing the area with access to main routes to Newcastle, Carlisle, Scotland and elsewhere - be warned though, as mentioned above & despite our best efforts we only saw a fraction of what the area has to offer so we shall definitely be coming back to see more and to enjoy the hospitality that Gordon offers. Thoroughly recommended to anyone who enjoys walking, history, stunning views and quiet sandy beaches or equally who just wants a quiet and peaceful place in which to unwind and recharge their batteries. We look forward to returning..

The cottage is a short drive from the town of Hexham and is set in some wonderful countryside. The accommodation was all and more than we had hoped for. The cottage is beautifully decorated, is very clean and had all the comforts one could wish for. The owner is delightful, always willing to help, even technophobes who have trouble with tv remote controls!!! There are a great number of leaflets offering insights into local gardens, walks and other places of interest. We were fortunate to be able to stay for two weeks, and an indication of how good the property is, is reflected in the number of repeat guests that stay. A perfect property, an idyllic location and a very nice owner, perfect.

This cottage, Moorgair, far exceeded our expectations.. We have had quite a number of cottages experiences throughout G.B. and Eire, yet this particular one turned up trumps in every way. Largely as a result of the owners effort, going out of their way to make the accommodation the very best and relaxing experience. From the comfort offered by the furniture to the provision of spotless facilities for our well-being eg. Washing machine and dryer. This was a perfect location for any guests wishing to explore the extraordinary Northumberland countryside.

For peace and tranquillity, Morgair is the perfect location. The landscape is stunning and there are so many and varied places to visit from castles to beaches and villages to cities and, of course, the early history - Hadrian's Wall and its Roman history has something for everyone. My husband and I have used holiday cottages in the UK and Eire for many years but Moorgair Cottage has been our very best experience yet. Not only is it in such an idyllic rural location for exploring the outstanding Northumberland countryside and historic sites of interest (of which there are many!),but returning to Moorgair, at the end of an eventful day is like slipping into something cosy and comfortable. Such is the welcome feeling of the place. The owner, Gordon and family, have made every effort to provide all the comforts and amenities you could wish for. From strenuous adventurous active holidays to simply relaxing and de-stressing this site is perfect. We are already planning a return.

A fantastic cosy cottage hidden away in the North Pennines/Northumberland border. It was a great base to do some walking and exploring of the local area. When we arrived, in the snow, it was toasty warm and beautifully decorated. Accommodation was of a very high spec and well equipped. Having a log burner, washing machine and dryer was a definite plus. The owner was very friendly and helpful and I would certainly recommend Moorgair.

Moorgair was a beautiful cottage off the beaten track.. It was just the week we needed to escape our busy lives. The cottage was beautifully furnished, very cosy and very well equipped. You neednt take anything with you to this lovely cottage as Gordon the owner has provided everything needed even tea bags, coffee and sugar etc.. Theres even a BBQ in the outhouse although our Xmas trip weather didnt see it get used. Really appreciated the log fire for the atmosphere although the central heating kept the cottage toasty anyway. Really good location for exploring and took train to Newcastle for the day and next time will go to Durham. Excellent choice and we can recommend it for a great stay and the two local pubs are excellent.

Had a great time staying here, it's a lovely location close to lots of Northumberland's great attractions, plus we had a great time at the County Show. And there's a secret attraction at Moorgair - they have their very own little herd of alpacas, our favourites were Folly and Copelia x

Moorgair Cottage was delightful, well laid-out, beautifully decorated and furnished and extremely comfortable. It was perfect for a family of three, and would be equally so for four or five. A good, quiet location, within easy reach of Hexham and all Hadrian's Wall sites, not to mention Newcastle itself if the weather turns particularly bad. We would be delighted to stay here again, and will certainly revisit the area, and would definitely recommend to friends.
