Area
Just a short drive from iconic St Ives, the seaside village of Carbis Bay is best-known for its beautiful stretch of pure white sand. With turquoise waters and sheltered conditions, the beach feels almost subtropical and is the perfect spot for a good old-fashioned day by the sea. The beach is also home to the Ocean Sports Centre, so if sunbathing is not really your thing, why not hire a kayak or SUP and get out on the water instead. Or why not treat yourself to a Spa Day at the delightful hotel which overlooks the beach and has a fabulous terrace where cocktails can be enjoyed in the Cornish sunshine? Carbis Bay has a small range of local shops and restaurants as well as a fish & chip takeaway and railway branch line. The train journey from Carbis Bay into St Ives is perhaps one of the most beautiful in the country; St Ives additionally makes for a great day out, with plenty of galleries to explore. The quayside town of Hayle also isn't far and is home to activities for the all the family, including a golf and a wildlife sanctuary. The Godrevy Nature Reserve and Penwith Heritage Coast are also within easy reach from Carbis Bay, providing outdoors and watersports plans with even more activities to partake in, including coasteering and birdwatching. Carbis Bay is truly a wonderful holiday location for those wanting to experience Cornwall's breath-taking coastline.

Great location with superb sea views , house is very spacious with 5 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms ,it is arranged over 3 floors and every bedroom had ensuite , all rooms including kitchen dinning room, lounge and conservatory are of a good size house was spotless when we arrived , bedding and towels all clean etc . Walk to the beach at carbis bay is steep and roughly a 15 min walk but soo worth it as it’s a stunning beach . Now for the negatives . Oven is useless and takes ages to cook even the basic of foods . so if you have an air fryer my advice would be to take it ( I wished now that I had taken mine especially as there was 6 of us ). Fridge freezer is in the narrowest part of the kitchen which makes it awkward when putting things away in it . House certainly needs money spent on it , re painting etc and was shabby in parts , carpet in the top bottom needs replacing and in the ground floor bedroom to the right of the house , shower was flooding the floor when using , my hubby sorted , filter just needed cleaning out , simple fix !! Outside areas including balconies need tidying up etc garden furniture needs replacing We enjoyed our stay here and in my opinion it’s the superb sea views that sells this house for sure . There was only one set of keys upon arrival in the key safe , Info book says there should be another set of keys inside house and there wasn’t so phoned carbis holidays ( as it says in info that you will get charged £20 for missing keys !!) whom we booked through and the lady I spoke to said she would arrange for another set to be dropped off and that she would make a note on our booking that let’s wasn’t there so that we do t get charged - 2nd set of keys never arrived . Despite the negatives we enjoyed our stay here

We booked Moonbeams for a week from 07 June 2024. This was through, dare I say, Sykes Cottages, avoid them like the plague! Moonbeams is in a super location with fantastic views, that’s about as far as it goes. The house needs a complete refurbishment and some TLC. There are numerous health and safety issues in and outside of the house. Dirty duvet covers, weeds everywhere on the balconies, windows difficult to open and close, list goes on. No thought has been given regarding the guests stay, I could go on and on. Until all the issues we had are resolved I suggest you keep away from Moonbeams. It’s certainly overpriced for the state that it’s in. It’s a real shame as the house could be fantastic if some money was spent on it.

This is a lovely house in a stunning spot. The top floor bedroom has a balcony for sea views as does the lounge (2nd floor). On the ground floor 2 bedrooms have patio doors to go onto the large balcony/patio area with a picnic table. So fab views for 3 of the 5 bedrooms. (The other 2 face the road). The kitchen has ample utensils for a large group although we found the layout of the kitchen a bit awkward at times. The cooker, freezer and fridge are positioned in the narrow part of the room so you can’t get past someone if they are at any of these. All bedrooms had en-suites, some with a bath and shower which was great. There was also a loo on the 2nd floor near lounge. Plenty of seating throughout house. Big beanbags to take outside onto patio area. There are 3 games machines but we could only get one to work. Lots of DVD’s on a shelf and a few books. Games in another cupboard. Washing up liquid, dish cloth and a few dishwasher tablets were provided and some lovely shortbread biscuits. There was also a lovely canvas shopping bag given as a gift which we thought was really nice. The beach is about a 10/15 minute downhill walk which is quite steep. But the beach is lovely. Quiet when we were there. Dogs allowed on before 10am and after 6pm during summer season. The downsides were minor things which could be easily sorted. Generally, there are parts of the house that just need a bit of TLC. The main thing was a loose patio slab on 2nd floor balcony which is broken and moves a lot. We covered it with a mat for the week so no one tripped or cut their feet/paws. I had read about this on reviews at the start of this year when looking to book a holiday and someone wrote it in the guestbook from the week before we went as they nearly had an accident. It’s not a new problem so I’d have expected it to have been fixed. It’s a hazard. The picnic table needs a coat of paint. It’s grubby and a bit flaky so not great for eating from. The info folder needs updating, for example it says all lamps are switched on by tapping the lamp base, which they’re not. The information about rubbish isn’t detailed enough. It just says bag up rubbish and put in wheelie bin to be put at top of drive on a Thursday evening. There’s a few bins and boxes and bags. All the recycle bags/boxes were overflowing when we arrived so we had nowhere to put our things from day 1. A page that explains what each bin/bag/box is for would be useful and a list of dates specifying which get taken to top of drive each week. Perhaps the recycle boxes/bags would have had space in them then. These are things that could be fixed/sorted so easily. We all had a fantastic time and would thoroughly recommend this house to stay in. Less than 2 mile walk to St Ives (fairly easy on main road and a bit more challenging on coastal path but lovely). The house is such a good size that you didn’t feel cramped (we were a group of 7 with a large dog). Views spectacular and you could really chill out in so many parts of the house, especially outside.
