This was our 3rd stay at Mengarth. We love the location, the community, the pub and the house. The village is so peaceful but also a real community with the fishermen, the cadgwith singers on Friday ( covid & weather permitting) and a really friendly folk night too - both at the Inn. We love the fact Megarth it is dog friendly, the kichen is well equipped the house is spacious and comfortable and for us this year the addition of sky internet connection was a nice surprise. It was good to get a call from the owner to ensure we were happy with everything. We have already booked for next year - which says it all! Thank you to Julian.

We have stayed on or near the Lizard for many years but this location in Cadgwith was the loveliest we have seen. The accommodation perfectly suited our multi generational /multi household party. I enjoyed cooking in the lovely kitchen. A few minor items need attention so loses one star but it is a holiday let. Just booked to return next year -first time ever.

The house is in a stunning position in a beautiful fishing village but the inside of the house is sadly very disappointing. The kitchen is modern and fully equipped, bar oven gloves we makes using the oven dangerous as only one thin tea towel to protect hands. However the bathrooms were a massive let down, we were aware the jacuzzi bath jets don’t work but this means when having a bath black sludge comes out the jet holes and it smells of dirty drains. The main downstairs shower smells of urine, as does the inside of the bedroom wardrobe. The bed in the downstairs front room is broken so one slide slants making it difficult to sleep on, the mattresses are all too soft and the bottom sheet on the king size bed was not fitted and too small for the bed so every time you turn over it moves with you. When you charge £1,900 for one week stay in your house the standard needs to be much higher. Beautiful location but the house needs a lot of money re-invested back into it.

Had a perfect stay at this fabulous house. It's in a great location just a minute from the sea with easy access to plenty of walks in the stunning Cornwall countryside. The locals are very friendly and in the idyllic pub down the road you can even join in with the 'sea shanties'! The house is large, well equipped and well maintained and we were particularly impressed by the comfortable beds. The sauna was a real treat too. We can't wait to return.

We had a lovely holiday to Mengarth and loved the cottage.. The location was beautiful and just a short walk to beach and pub Cadgwith Cove and Cellar restaurant. Also in village was a small shop and amazing gift shop. The house was beautiful with a lovely patio to sit on when weather was good. Kitchen was lovely and big and very modern with all the utensils needed to cook for an whole large family. Only little niggle I would say was freezer part of fridge freezer was very small but the fridge was enormous so don't get too much frozen food if you get a shopping delivery which luckily we hadn't. Kitchen was cold at beginning of holiday so a small heater or radiator may be an idea but didn't affect us as we did plenty of cooking . Sauna was lovely and enjoyed using this on a couple of times . We will definitely be coming back to house again just wish it took 10 people lol as have to organise an holiday next time for that many people. I really did not want to write this review as like to keep good cottages secret. Also must be noted as reversed way of house there are stairs upto main lounge and kitchen and one lovely bedroom . Not sure if a stairgate was provided for stairs as we didn’t have young children but maybe worth asking if taking young children. Overall a fantastic property and loved the place x

Freshly cleaned and well-presented, Mengarth is a wonderful house in an excellent position. Clearly a lot of new interior decoration, even a new kitchen! Super outdoor view of the sea with seating and tables for us all to enjoy the weather (even tho there is a sauna indoors!). This is a big house with room for 8 and dogs which we recommend to everyone and anyone wanting to visit this beautiful old-world fishing village - away from it all, with a good pub and the friendliest of neighbours.

We enjoyed our week in Mengarth (4 adults, 2 teenagers and a 12 year old). It's a beautiful Cornish fishing village with a fantastic friendly pub, cafe and gallery. We walked from Cadgwith to the Lizard one morning which only took a couple of hours. The house is large and the location has lovely views. Having a sauna was great to return to after swimming! It is definitely more 'country cottage' than 'urban chic' but this made us feel relaxed and at home. The kitchen was lovely and well equipped. Only downside was the mattress in the upstairs bedroom; it sags badly in the middle. We would happily stay here again.

The location is amazing with fantastic views across the Cove, the house was perfect with French doors from both the living room and the kitchen area that lead out on to an amazing sun terrace overlooking the cove and this quaint Cornish village. Our stay was absolutely perfect the property was very large and airy with the reverse level accommodation making the most of the stunning location. The house was very clean and tidy, and very well equipped, and the sauna was just the thing after a bracing walk along the cliffs We particularly enjoyed the local beaches and amazing walks nearby and the local pub was a fantastic place to wind down after a day out, with folk music evenings every week to round off the perfect holiday...……… Can't wait to return next year

Mengarth is a spacious property with parking for 2 cars, a bonus in Cadgwith. The village we know well and love staying there. This is by far the most light & airy accommodation with a good, well equipped kitchen. We have already booked for next year, this probably says enough.

Mengarth is a very good house in a superb location with very good facilities.. Even though a few things need to be updated, the house was very clean throughout. Along with the views the kitchen was the star of the house, clean and well equipped but still leaving enough storage for your own shopping items. It was a nice surprise to get a call from the housekeeper midway through the holiday asking how we were finding our stay and if we needed anything else. A very enjoyable and comfortable stay.

Mengarth is in a lovely location.. Cadgwith is a great village right on the S.W. Coastal Path. However the cottage is tired - no cushions on outside furniture, racking in dishwasher needs replacing and whole place needs a jolly good clean. Overall it suited our needs and seven of us and a small dog had a great holiday and would certainly book again. Lots to do for the whole family ages ranging 13 - 74. Sykes Cottages very efficient and info given accurate and helpful. Thank you.

Previous review does not reflect our experience in May! We found Mengarth to be utterly cottagy, charming, quirky-Cornish, well-equipped, stunning position and views (no need to get in to the car to walk). Loved the hammock, singing fish, garden, very modern kitchen with granite and slate. Very clean. We will definitely return!!!!

This house is dated and in need of a good clean, broken furniture/ odd and old. The outside area is a mess and garden furniture can only seat 4, the house should cater for 8 people. Bathrooms need repairing, broken tap, toilet and one of them you have to sit on sideways because of the room. This house needs updating, painting a then a good clean and then it would be a large beautiful house in a stunning location.

Positives:- The house is spacious, the kitchen is modern and well equipped and the house is in a beautiful location. Negatives:- The house is dated and is in dire need of decorating and updating, it also needs cleaning thoroughly. The outside area is dismal, dirty and unkempt. The house sleeps 8 but the outside furniture and BBQ do not cater for 8 people, there is a table that would seat 4 and the BBQ would be suitable for 2, but was not fit for use. These are some of the issues we had: (I have photographic evidence) The BBQ was rusty, placed in a plastic garden storage container that was full of flies and household rubbish from Christmas Outside table seated 4 – the house sleeps 8 The downstairs toilet can only be used if you sit on it sideways - The flushing mechanism did not work The tap in the downstairs bathroom was loose and did not work properly Seat in the living area broken The cushions on the furniture were ripped or torn Smoke alarm at the top of the stairs was disconnected and hanging loose Dining room chairs stained and dirty Cobwebs on lights / ceilings in most rooms Behind beds / side of wardrobes thick with dust and damp Headboards not secured to the beds Jacuzzi in the bathroom didn’t work The house smells musty and damp It is such a shame as the house could be fantastic, but needs a lot of care and attention to bring it up to standard. We paid just short of £1,500 for the week, in comparison to other properties we have stayed in it does not warrant the cost being charged.

Near the sea in gorgeous village. Poldark country. Fishing village with thatched rooves as if time has stood still. Expansive views. Fishermen go out on their boats daily, it's a sight to see them return with their haul of all sorts of fish; fresh seafood locally. Great beers in friendly pub, with lots of music from days of yore; sea shanties on Fridays and folk music Tuesdays and many Sundays. Beautiful views, fresh air, occasional dolphins and seals in the nearby cove. Crystal clear sea just down the road. Rarely busy. House has lots of amenities. Four double bedrooms and plenty of room. New kitchen and lovely area to sit out to take in the star-filled skies. Large garden, very well kept, a delight. Highly recommended. Visit Cadgwith, you'll never want to leave.
