Ideal location for visiting the south Peak District. Very spacious with comfortable bedrooms and a nice kitchen ( though it would be better to ditch the AGA for a decent oven). A couple of downsides are the parking and the front/dining room. The parking outside the front means negotiating a very narrow gate followed by a sharp turn. Only suitable for small/medium cars. We also found during our stay that we were blocked in twice by cars parking in front of the gates, we started to park one of the cars here to avoid this. The front room is very dark, next to no natural light and poor artificial lighting. We ate in the conservatory room as the dining room was too dark. It was a pleasant stay with nice outside space and the local shop is great, but I wouldn't stay here again.

Lovely house everything was clean and comfortable.. Location was fantastic. Facilities were great. Just would mention dishwasher was very difficult to fit glasses in. A suggestion- a little later check out would be less stressful !

This is wonderful home and a lot of thought has gone into making it such for other people's holidays.. Quite little village but very close to great Prak District towns and country walks. It had everything that you could need for a weekend away. We loved it!

The house is tastefully decorated to a very high standard and it was a pleasure to stay there.. The kitchen is well equipped - the only omission is cereal bowls (there are however plenty of soup bowls!) it was also rather chilly (January) in the conservatory and some supplementary heating (a fan heater perhaps?) would be a good addition. Communication from James, the property manager was excellent throughout. All in all, a delightful experience. We would definitely recommend Winster Hall as the perfect venue for a large gathering of family and friends.

We had a wonderful week at Winster Hall for my husbands birthday .. The Accommodation was superb and perfect for our needs. The position was lovely with walks and pubs nearby and a fantastic village shop. The proximity to lovely towns and Chatsworth House made for plenty to do. The house was short of nothing we needed and we enjoyed cooking in the fantastic kitchen and eating in the large dining room with the roaring fire. The outdoor areas were also very safe and private and would be perfect if visiting with pets or children.

Absolutely stunning home in a pretty Peak District village with easy access to the Limestone Way.. There was bags of room for 14 people and 2 dogs. The facilities in the Hall are superb, as are all the rooms. All of the bedrooms are large and spacious, light and airy. The whole house was lovely and warm, particularly the kitchen. It was great to warm up next to the AGA with a large G+T after a long day in the dales and hills. I couldn’t recommend Winster Hall highly enough and am looking forward to our next visit.

This is a really impressive place. Situated in the centre of Winster Village it is perfectly placed for all the attractions in the South end of the Peak District. A village shop almost next door a very friendly pub across the road the village is well served. The accommodation inside the hall is spacious and very well maintained. Outside space is also good and our 11 year old grandson loved playing football in the walled garden. Three generations made up our party of 12 plus our small dog and all agreed this was a very special place for a family get together. Marvelous.

The surroundings are really lovely with good walks long and short.. Excellent outdoor seating. A selection of outdoor things in the summer house to play on the lawn. Lots of indoor games too. The sun room at the back was perfect for having coffee or when fewer people were eating together. The shop next door was so well stocked, there were no worries about running out of anything - even open on Sundays.

The venue was great, ideal for families and very well appointed and spacious.. The location was perfect for visiting local places of interest and we had fantastic weather too which really helped. The locals were very friendly and the village shop was very useful - we particularly enjoyed the bacon and fresh orange juice. The gin, ale and chocolate tasting was an added bonus! We did have to contact the property manager, who was very helpful and resolved the problem. We really enjoyed our stay and would happily head back - if the opportunity arose.

Our stay at Winster Hall was a complete delight.. On arrival we found a bottle of fizz and a delicious cake waiting for us which was a lovely gesture. The Hall is elegant, well appointed and roomy and the perfect place to have a celebration with family and friends. The beds were comfortable with nice linen. There was even a damask table cloth supplied which fit the huge dining table that can comfortably seat up to 16. One point for future guests is that the glorious bedroom with the painted ceiling is the downstairs room with access to the shower through the dining room. This was not a problem for us. The village is charming and well worth a wander around. The local community shop stocks everything you could need and is open every single day AND is just 20 metres away! Add all this to the fact that you are in a stunning area of England and you have the perfect holiday rental.

This is a lovely well equipped property in a great location for exploring Derbyshire.. The gardens in this property were a very pleasant surprise and were much appreciated by all our party. The bedrooms are very flexible in their accommodation and met all our needs. The kitchen was very well equipped for large parties and we enjoyed cooking our meals and then eating them in the superb dining room with its painted ceiling. The local village store was visited every day and among other things provided our supply of wood for the log burner which was great for the cooler nights. Our group of 13 covered ages from 69 to 9 and they all had a great time. We can thoroughly recommend visits to Chatsworth, Bakewell, Buxton, Matlock and for the more energetic Alton Towers. We will visit again as there are so many other places still to visit and this is a very good place to base yourself

Winster Hall is an amazing cosy comfortable beautifully situated house.. Exceptionally equipped for all comforts and requirements . We have just returned from a birthday weekend there with full occupancy. The standard of everything is exceptionally high without being too starchy. Fabulous garden and outside patio area when the weather is good..we were warm and cosy with log burner, aga in kitchen and fire in lounge. Just so much space to choose... Management have been very friendly ,professional and courteous throughout and we were left to enjoy our time but knew there was someone on standby if help was needed. Winster is a super friendly village with good local amenities...the shop stocks everything and the local pub is only a walk away. We also had a party meal at the Druids Inn in Birchover the next village along which the food and service is fully recommended. Lots of great Band Bs around for additional accommodation. Winster is so adaptable to whatever you are looking for... There isnt anything negative I could say... and I am very picky... 6 stars all a round...

Booked this house as it was equidistant for all the family. With plenty of bedrooms plus multiple bed configurations, this house easily accommodated our group of 14 plus dog. We spent most of our time either in the dining room, the stove providing a cosy atmosphere, or the comfortable lounge on the first floor. The kitchen was well equipped with good quality crockery and glassware and the combination of the aga plus two electric ovens made cooking the three course dinner on the Saturday night a doddle. Beware though if you are not familiar with cooking on an aga. The oven gloves provided are adequate for using the electric ovens but too flimsy and thin to protect against the high temperatures of the aga. We used the felt gloves from the stove to avoid any nasty burns! The house was immaculately clean with a small range of toiletries in the bathrooms and plenty of towels. The fixtures and fittings are of a high standard and all the bedrooms are individually decorated and finished with complimentary cushions and throws. It wasn’t initially obvious from looking at the layout plans but the ground floor bedroom is accessed from the dining room and the bathroom that services this room is located adjacent to the bedroom but accessed from an inner hall off the dining room. This meant the occupants had to pass through the dnining room to reach their bathroom in the mornings. We were all family so it was amusing to see Grandad passing through in his pyjamas, but this may not be quite so funny if you were not related. It’s a shame because this is one of the nicest rooms with a sitting area and fireplace. Lastly, the drive immediately in front of the hall is the off road parking area for 5 cars. Our party consisted of two 4x4s plus a saloon car and, as there were cars parked on the road and the gates are very narrow, we only managed to get the saloon onto the drive, the angles being too tight. It wasn’t too much of a problem as there were spaces on the road all weekend although it was a bit of a palaver upon arrival, ferrying all our stuff across the road. On the whole we had a great weekend. Thank you to the housekeeper for our welcome gifts. A silver tray was on the dining room table with a bottle of fizz, a balloon and a delicious carrot cake; a nice touch as it was a birthday celebration.

Booked this amazing house for a Golden Wedding celebration and was not disappointed. It is beautifully appointed with plenty of space for all generations and if you are lucky enough to visit in the summer, then the garden and outside space is an added bonus. Well worth the money.

A whole family gathering for our Golden Wedding celebration.. The hall felt like a touch of luxury to us all.The area is gorgeous for walking and the local shop is a treasure. My only quibbles are No1 I had to bring my own coffee machine, and no 2 having to get out by 10 o'clock is almost impossible. Everyone was out of bed between six and seven but as we were five different family units, including a toddler, it was fairly chaotic. I certainly didn't have time to do my last minute room inspections.I appreciate this is a large property but even half an hour would have made a difference.

July 2018
The Coe family 80th birthday gathering went extremely well as the Hall not only was everything it promised, it had such a happy feel to it.. We had great weather so the two terrace areas were much used for eating out - we used the magnificent formal dining room less, as the conservatory was also very popular. The kitchen was superb, everything we could ask for. The drawing room is fabulous and enormous. The bedrooms were really good, as were the en suites. The top floor did get rather hot overnight sometimes, but the weather was exceptional. The garden and summer house were also well liked and used. The weather broke with heavy rain on the day we left ( Friday 13th !) but we didn’t mind because of all our lovely shared memories of 6th to 13th July 2018 at Winster Hall. PS the community suprmerket 25 yards away is wonderful and deserves everyone’s custom.

May 2018
Winster Hall is a great place for a family and friends celebration.. The history of the building and indeed of Winster village itself is really interesting. The Hall's facilities are superb and there is plenty of room for everyone. The garden is a delight on a sunny day,and the large dining table makes every meal feel like a special occasion. However, the broadband speed at around 10Mb/second leaves something to be desired. This, coupled with the lack of mobile signal, made communication with more far flung family members tricky.

I booked this holiday for an annual family reunion.. It was a lovely venue, particularly the light, huge first floor sitting room. The location was excellent for all our different interests from walking, cycling and visiting National Trust properties and of course Chatsworth. We also enjoyed Cromford and Masson mills and their history. The hall was well equipped and the beds were very comfortable. We were able to use the garden for badminton and the summer house was very relaxing. The local shop was well stocked and the staff were very friendly. We ordered some food from the shop before arriving which was very tasty. All in all a most pleasing experience for everyone.

Beautiful house with a great garden which really caught the afternoon sunlight.. Very picturesque village. With a some adaptions the downstairs bedroom and downstairs bathroom could be made wheelchair friendly which would be really beneficial to the house I think.

After being greeted with a freshly baked lemon drizzle cake which was delicious and a bottle of prosecco on the dinning table - We Spent a lovely long weekend (Fri 23/02 to Mon 26/02) here with my brothers, sisters and in-laws, a total of 12 adults. This was For a family reunion without our grown up children. My sister in-law Clare discovered the property on line and made all of the booking. The criteria in her choice was the ability of Winster Hall to accommodate all the couples with comfort and convenience for the differing needs including playing music in one room, watching TV in another. We spent every meal time together which was a cooked breakfast every morning and great Dinner parties in the evening’s. All the couples were in charge of various meal times. Mine was to cook a large Turkey roast dinner and I can honestly say the kitchen was well equipped from the prep stage to placing the food into the beautiful serving dishes on to the grand dinning table. We visited the local areas, Matlock, Matlock Bath and Bakewell which was beautiful. I would definitely return to Winster Hall with family again or friends. Thank you. X

Property exceeded our expectations on standard of cleanliness, layout and equipment.. The management had left welcome gifts for us which was much appreciated. There were 15 close family members staying and everyone enjoyed their stay. Communications from the management of the property were good and they were very helpful over our particular bed arrangements and with questions that we had raised. Our group were celebrating a special family birthday and I think we did really well with Winster Hall as our choice.

We had an amazing stay at Winster Hall.. Wow what a find, the property is beautiful, extremely well kept and fitted out, it catered for all our needs. We had a family gathering, 17 of us in total ranging in age from 1 to 75, for a special occasion and we all had a great time. The rooms are perfect well presented and clean, the beautiful dining room seated us all at the amazing long table, the kitchen is very well equipped and we had no problem catering for such a large family. The sitting room on the first floor is large and comfy with plenty of seating and room for all to enjoy time in it. I would have no hesitation in recommending this property to anyone and would be delighted to stay there again in the future and would love to be able to spend time in the lovely outdoor space and enclosed garden at a warmer time of year. Thank you to all your team for an easy booking and for the lovely welcome cake and bottle it was a lovely touch Kind Regards Su Battye

Ample accommodation and bathrooms for the 12 of us (7 adults, 5 children), large kitchen, huge dining room and a sitting room where we could all spread out and do our own thing. Conservatory was good for the dogs as was the enclosed garden. Near to lots of good attractions - Chatsworth, Haddon Hall, Bakewell, Matlock Bath etc. Good local walks and pubs. Nearby pub found room for all of us at short notice for Sunday lunch, but it does have quirky opening hours!

Winster Hall blew us all away.. It is beautifully decorated and is full of lovely little touches that really go above and beyond. We were staying for a weekend celebration, and every single member of our party said they didn't want to leave. It is so spacious, we were joking that we were going to put bells on each other so we could find people, as we kept losing members of the party to the sumptuous bedrooms! The views are breathtaking, perfect if you want to sit, wrapped up, looking at the view whilst reading a book. The location is fantastic, you can wander to the local pubs, or go for a countryside walk with your four legged friend or go for a short drive to the local market towns such as Matlock or Bakewell. I really tried hard to think of something that could improve the property, the only thing I could think of was some DVD's to watch all together, only to be informed by my friend that there are some in the living room, I just hadn't looked in the most obvious place, under the TV! We all loved Winster Hall, and hope to return at some point.

This was a wonderful venue for my 60th birthday.. Winster Hall was the central house in the village of Winster and it was very useful to have a community run village shop a couple of doors away. There was so much to do in the area and lovely walks around the village itself. Our age range was 70 years down to two and there were activities that suited us all. The house itself was so comfortable and spacious with a lovely garden. We could not have had a better place to stay. I would love to book another holiday like this but would I ever find somewhere to equal it?

Overall, this traditional, stylish, mini-mansion worked very well indeed. We were a party of 7 couples, staying 3 nights. The lounge, kitchen and dining room all allow for convivial gathering. There were a couple of slight downsides to the 2nd floor accommodation: the 'Jack & Jill' bathroom needs a soundproof door to the adjoining bedroom, and the stowaway bed in the small bedroom is only suitable for someone up to 5'6". In warm weather the garden and courtyard would be superb for a bbq/garden party. Winster is a lovely village with a good pub and shop very close by; the latter sold everything we needed except for replacement tea-lights for the dining table.

February 2016
Spent a long weekend (Fri-Mon) here with my extended family, a total of 17 people with ages ranging from 82 years to 14 months, to celebrate my birthday. My wife discovered the property on line and made all of the booking arrangements which, according to her, was a very smooth process with good communications from the owners. Her choice was made on the basis of Winster's relatively central location for the guests who were travelling from NW and NE England, and from the East Mids. The other main criteria in her choice was the ability of Winster Hall to accommodate our extended family in a way that offered comfort and convenience for the differing needs of our respective families. So, for example, the young adults had a room to themselves, as did the children, while my sister and her husband shared their room with their baby son and young daughter. In addition to the privacy that the room layouts could offer, the large sitting room and dining room both offered sufficient space to accommodate all 17 of us. In fact the only times that all of us were in the same room at the same time was for meals: the children spent most of their time playing hide & seek in the hall, while the adults were able to make use of the very good wifi connection or the 50" television with access to Freeview and/or a DVD player. Due to the time of year, and the weather conditions, I can't offer any insight into the grounds, but can reassure potential visitors who are thinking of staying in colder weather that the Hall's central heating system is very efficient and can be supplemented by a gas fire in the sitting room and a log burner in the dining room. The Aga keeps the kitchen warm, but the conservatory and ground floor bedrooms were relatively chilly compared to the rest of the house. The owners very thoughtfully provide towels for all of the guests, as well as a selection of DVDs and board games. The village store, which is a 30 secs walk from the house, provides everything you'd expect it to, including logs for the fire.

All amenities needed were provided, it was well furnished and had everything we needed.. The owners answered questions promptly about the property in advance of our stay and were very accommodating with our requests. A good location, near to all tourist sites and with a pub and shop nearby.

We all appreciated staying in a grand building like this and we particularly enjoyed having a meal one evening for 17 people at that lovely dining table.. On that occasion we used both the Aga and the double oven to do the cooking, which was useful. We all enjoyed having breakfast in the conservatory and hardly used the dining room.

Winster Hall was the perfect place for a large family celebration. I particularly liked the large dining room which is made to accommodate 16 people very comfortably all together at one table.

Winster Hall is a beautiful house with well tended garden, patios and summer house. Ideally situated adjacent to the bus stop and yards from an excellent village shop. Winster Village is a charming, picturesque Peak District Village with excellent walking.

A spacious and well equipped house full of character. The grounds are extensive and well equipped with garden furniture, and there is a summerhouse and lovely lawn, all inside a walled garden. It was a great venue for a family celebration.

The house was immaculate on arrival and very impressive. We had 11 adults, 5 babies under 7 months old, a 1 year old and a 4 year old - this house was large enough to fit all these people (plus travel cots!) without us all getting under each other's feet. The kitchen was large enough to cook huge meals. We loved the conservatory and the sun house. The walled garden space was perfect and private - the 4 year old was safe to explore. The owners had left a detailed info pack and maps/leaflets for things to do in the area.

The property was the perfect size and layout for all the family (including a toddler and a dog). The location was great too - shops/pubs nice and close but still close to the amazing countryside. We all had a fantastic time and hope to return next year.
