We have just spent Xmas 2019 in this cottage and it was lovely and peaceful, although the owners are on site, they left us alone to cook, walk and drink! They were so nice and left some eggs and mince pies on arrival with the living area being naturally decorated with Holly springs and tea lights and of course the wood burner which is an added extra but worth it! We also had shared use of their garden for the dogs and could close the gates for this. Joan also runs a beautiful Art Gallery, which is definitely worth a look around! The only downside were the mattresses weren't that comfy. Wi-Fi works well as the mobile signal is not good. We would definitely stay there again, as the area is lovely.

There are so many things to enjoy in Dorset and this cottage is well located for a short trip to these places.. The place is clean and cozy. The owner is very kind. We would love to go back again to spend longer holiday there.

Lovely setting, cottage was ok but as said sofa needs replacing and a consideration of the privacy of the down stairs and upstairs toilets should be looked at.. ..... could be an issue if I was cooking breakfast and my mother in law was showering.......

Sofa and chairs uncomfortable.. Bed okay, pillows like sleeping with your head on a sack of new potatoes. Toilets do not flush properly. All dishes and pans needed washing before use. Garden is not secure as owner has picture framing business within the same building and although we were told we could shut the gates the owner and customers would open them and not make sure they were closed behind them.

Quirky cottage, didn't suit us as regards to privacy within the bathrooms and open plan bedroom.. Toilets did not flush properly and sofa uncomfortable. Owners friendly and approachable. The cottage was close to attractions and plenty of places to eat.

Mr Carter, Hucknall, July 2018 “BEWARE!- Multiple businesses on site, not only a "small" gallery. Concerts, Yoga, Life drawings and art exhibitions. Open to the public and strangers hanging around near the windows of the cottage, making your dogs bark, to which the owner complains! On arrival, you will be issued with a plant pot and stick to dispose of your dog waste in the neighboring Cornfield! Blinds down all week for privacy as shower room is downstairs also. The outside bin was small, full and had maggots. Door does not lock from the inside only outside. Definitely would not recommend to anyone, especially if you have children or dogs.”

Fabulous place to stay.. Owner and her dog Sheeba were wonderful hosts, an absolute pleasure to meet them both. Eould highly reccomend staying in this beautiful little cottage., in such a tranquil setting. Billy and i loved every minute of our stay, with beautiful walks and the river frome on the doorstep . We loved it here, and it was central to everywhere we wanted to go.

Toilets dont' flush properly.. It often took 3 to 4 flushes to clear the toilet. Didn't find the toilets as clean as I would have expected on arrival. The sofa is totally worn out and not at all comfortable. It was cold at night as the heating is switched off by the owner. I don't like it hot at night, but it was that cold, it woke me up. On the plus side, nice location.

We stayed at the Old School Cottages and from the outside the building was lovely. Inside the standard of equipment was terrible. On arrival we decided to make ourselves a drink but all the mugs had brown stains on them. The microwave door smelled awful and after opening it the interior of it was rusty and deteriorated. The non stick pan was really scratched and in a very bad condition. The hob and oven was also in need of a good clean. The dining chairs were very old and not the ones shown in the images on the website. The log burner was in need of a good clean along with all the windows. On booking this cottage it said it was suitable for more than one couple. To enter the bedroom upstairs you had to pass through an open area with a double bed to get to the bedroom with two singles. This was not ideal in terms of privacy for both couples. The bathroom didn't have it's own light switch. The light switch which controlled the bathroom also controlled the bedroom lights. Not ideal if someone wanted the toilet in the middle of the night. In terms of storage there was one set of drawers for four people. There was no wardrobes or any rails to hang clothes. Eventually after four days after asking for a replacement microwave and some new clean mugs they turned up. We had to buy new mugs and a frying pan as we needed them for the first 4 days. We did not enjoy the stay as the standard of the equipment inside the cottage was very poor. It spoiled our holiday and we will never book these cottages again. Please be warned!

We had a wonderful welcome to this cosy cottage. It is in a fantastic location for days out with young families and dogs. The Cottage is well equipped, warm and comfortable, and has the added bonus of an art gallery and framing shop within the grounds. My family and I are looking forward to returning for more adventures.

Our week in this cottage was excellent. For anyone taking dogs it was perfect as there are no carpets downstairs thus reducing anxiety about hairs and mud. There are loads of long and short walks straight from the door. Facilities for people were pretty good too!

We were given a very nice welcome. This was a lovely place to stay, the weather was reasonable for the time of year and there are lots of beautiful places to visit. I would definitely recommend The Old School House Cottage. The amenities were perfect, and it was a home from home with more relaxation.
