The Cow Barn is a beautiful property with stunning views, it is the first place we have been to where the house is actually bigger and better than the photos! The bedrooms are large and comfy, we used the cot and high chair available on request, both of which were very clean and a perfect fit for our toddler. The kitchen had everything we needed, plus a huge fridge and freezer which had plenty of room for a weeks worth of food. Fresh eggs, milk and a bottle of wine were left for us when we arrived which was a nice bonus. The owners were so friendly and hospitable, I would highly recommend this property and we will certainly be going back. I read a review that said that the country road might be hard for city folk to travel down, but coming from London we found the property easily and the road was no problem. Nothing negative to say from our point of view at all. 10 out of 10 :)

We booked this for my husband’s 50th Birthday so we could meet with family from the north east.. The property is rural and was tricky getting to, but having said that it’s a beautiful property, plenty of kitchen equipment and well stocked with sweets and complimentary coffee, tea and milk. 7 adults stayed comfortably for the weekend. We all had a fabulous time - 5 of us took the rural walk to Bakewell (3.5 miles) and back, there are 3 good pubs in the village (.8 mile) this cottage is not for the faint hearted and I would suggest good walking boots and a light weight jacket (just in case). Thank you for the perfect staycation that 2020 brought us! (Should have been on a cruise ship)

We enjoyed a lovely week at Cow Barn. The property is of a very high standard and was spotlessly clean, I don’t think I’ve ever seen such a clean oven except in a showroom! Underfloor heating meant the house was toasty warm throughout and the beds all had lovely high quality bedding. Really nice roll top bath and walk in shower too. Very well equipped kitchen. All in all a lovely, comfortable place to stay. Lovely setting with very nice views and nice patio to sit out. Easy walk to the village which had 3 good pubs and 2 shops. Minor point to note is the property is assessed via a private track which is a little rough in parts - didn’t bother me as I’m a country girl and used to it, but could imagine city folk finding it a bit awkward. Would definitely recommend a stay here and would absolutely go back again.

A perfect weekend break for our daughter's birthday. Fabulous accommodation which suited 6 adults and 2 toddlers. Quality furnishings, beautiful decor yet homely. Such personal touches. Sweets, wine, milk and eggs are left for you. Everything you could wish for in a holiday home.

Excellent accommodation, 4 great bedrooms all quality bedding. The living room and kitchen make a super social space. Just lacks storage for food you have taken that doesn't go in fridge/freezer. The kitchen has everything you could ever need - very well equipped The cottage was dressed for Christmas and decorated beautifully. This made my 50th birthday stay perfect. Lovely touches, sweet jar, eggs and milk and wine and tray filled with chocolates lollipops, biscuits etc. Alot of thought and effort has gone into making this property a success by Tony and Belinda

Photos can be deceptive, or exaggerated, or elongated, or taken years ago.. Not for The Cow Barn! Beautiful, cosy, spacious with luxurious furnishings. The bed linen, towels, sofas, all the very highest quality; making the six of us (seven with tiny baby) feel pampered for our pre-xmas family holiday. Loads of room; two more could have stayed and we still wouldn't have felt cramped. The cottage was all trimmed up for xmas, again in a tasteful and traditional way; even leaning us xmas crackers, little boxes of chocolate treats and a brimming advent calendar. They also left us a bottle of wine, chocolates and biscuits, milk and eggs to get us started. The owners were next door, which is always useful in case you need anything. Communication was great before and during the stay. Couldn't have asked for anything better. Thanks very much

December 2019
The Cow Barn was beautifully decorated for Christmas with many thoughtful and kind touches.. The layout worked well for a multi-generational family having Christmas together. My grandson particularly love visiting the chickens at the back of the property and we all loved the spectacular countryside and many walks around it. We never once had to use our car (except for a spot of shopping at the Chatsworth farm shop).

November 2019
We were a party of eight including visitors from the US for 3 nights.. The cottage and environs were excellent except that the dishwasher did not work from the start and we were catering for ourselves. This naturally meant lots of washing up - hardly a good holiday experience. When the owner was contacted we were told it had been showing problems but when faced with us just as we were leaving said it was not their fault and a new one had been ordered. I indicated I expected some recompense as I had paid for a dishwasher in the rental. I am told by Sykes the owner refuses any recompense and Sykes cannot do anything about this ! Disgraceful !

We were a family party of 5 adults and 3 children.. Cow Barn is well placed for walks in this part of the Peaks and we all enjoyed our stay. The house is well equipped throughout, is warm, cosy and there was plenty of hot water. There was a generous welcome pack, However there were a few niggles that could easily be addressed. Cupboard space is too limited for 8 people - odd given the number of locked cupboards. The kitchen is very well equipped but again although there is a large fridge freezer there is very little other storage space for groceries. The bathrooms would have benefitted from heated towel rails that worked and although the bath was perfect for the children, an extra shower would have been useful for the adults. There are 3 pubs in Youlgreave - however one currently serves no food and the other two are disappointing.

Lovely stay for 8 adults for our first trip to the Peak District. Clean, cosy and relaxing place to stay. Could not have asked for more. Milk eggs and welcome basket left for us. Helpful owner who recommended places in the village to eat. Beautiful house with modern amenities and fantastic walks very close by.

We highly recommend this cottage. We stayed for a week, 3 adults and 4 children. We absolutely loved this cottage. Tucked away down a track road the cottage is surrounded by beautiful countryside views. The cottage itself has everything you could possibly need during a stay with or without children. There is lots of space for the children to play. The house is really comfortable and set up for having family time whether it be a bbq outside or a jigsaw inside. The owners are also absolutely fantastic, friendly and helpful. We had an emergency with our 4 year old while there and I can't thank the owners enough for their help. As well as all this the house is just 10 minutes drive from the picturesque Bakewell and a short drive to many attractions. we visited Chatsworth House, Haddon Hall, and Hardwick Hall during our week. We hope to return.

The Cow Barn is a beautiful cottage in a wonderful surrounding.. The hospitality was also brilliant, where Belinda and Tony went above and beyond to welcome us to there home. We had a wonderful 4 night stay here and would have loved to stay longer. I would recommend this cottage to anyone!!
Mrs Thornton
April 2019
The property is lovely.. Beautifully finished and in a fabulous location. The single track road does have pot holes but we have a low car and did not find it a problem - you just need to proceed with caution. No passing traffic is a real bonus and the short walk into the village delightful. However. We were 8 people for a whole week and it was a little snug. The small dining table and lack of storage space for food not requiring refrigeration were both a challenge - and both could be readily fixed. There is also very limited clothing storage space despite the property having lots built in - it's all locked! The upstairs bathroom is also let down by the lack of a shower, particularly given that it is plenty big enough to have one added. Again, 8 of us using the one downstairs shower for a whole week was a little frustrating. 8 people for just a couple of nights or fewer for a week would be perfect.

March 2019
The cottage was as described and we enjoyed our stay with no issues.. On arrival the owners had very kindly provided Milk, eggs and various other provisions, plus sweets that went down well with the children. The only comment we would add is that the road to the cottage is a farm track, as might be expected to a farm, but it does have numerous pot holes. If your car has low ground clearance you should be aware that the bottom of the vehicle may take some punishment if your not careful.
Mr Knowlson
March 2019
The cottage is terrific and well stocked.. Our only challenge as we told the owners is with the number of toliets and showers which when you have a full house makes showering and using the toilet first thing challenging and requires tight scheduling. Hope this helps
Mrs Hegarty
February 2019
Extremely comfortable and well appointed cottage.. Lovely welcoming touches such as bottle of wine, sweets, chocolates, milk and fresh eggs. Good plumbing with lots of hot water. More than enough fluffy white towels. Very quiet area. Fresh flowers. Would highly recommend!

February 2019
We had a delightful two night stay at The Cow Barn.. Well appointed accommodation beautifully presented with some delightful, thoughtful, little touches; the fresh milk in the fridge, freshly laid eggs - our children, aged 7, 5 & 2 would like to make special mention of the sweetie jar ! together also with the lovely ‘Cowshed’ toiletry products. It was in a perfect location remote enough yet with easy access to the local town and Bakewell beyond. We could step out of the door and onto fabulous walks. Altogether a superb venue for an unforgettable stay in the beautiful Peaks.

November 2018
Lovely well equipped cottage gorgeous bedrooms and a nice touch having wine eggs and milk provided.. It's quite a way from the nearest village but the views are spectacular We loved the open fire. It sleeps 8 but there's only enough comfy seating for 5 people in the lounge so as we were all adults it was a bit cramped after dinner !! Overall though a fabulous property
Mr Rowland
November 2018
The cottage was perfect and exactly as described, however the little touches provided by the owners made us feel extremely welcome such as fresh Milk and Eggs from the farm, a bottle of wine to welcome us as well as biscuits, tea and coffee, sweets etc.. The cottage was immaculate, very clean very very comfortable and just so welcoming.

November 2018
The cow barn is a beautifully finished and very well appointed cottage.. (including a 3 metre christmas tree and decorations for our early december weekend away). We were met by Mr Ball the owner who showed us where everything was, and then left us to enjoy our time there. A very well presented and spotlessly clean property in the heart of the derbyshire dales, with walks straight from the door, perfect. we have no reservations with recommending the property. The Wright family.

August 2018
We had a lovely week here during the beginning of August, mostly dry weather as well! The accommodation and owners are superb, with the owners going out their way to help. We were a part of 6 (5x adults & 1 child aged 2), one of the adult guests is a wheelchair user. The accommodation is lovely and spacious, with every requirement you need from a CD player to a coffee maker, you name it, they pretty much had it! If you fancy baking, the kitchen is well equipped, many thanks for the complimentary wine, eggs & fresh milk etc! The rooms and accompanying bathrooms are modern & spacious, very cosy. The wetroom downstairs was perfect for our accompanying disabled guest! The outside patio area is lovely with fantastic scenic views. My daughter loved the owners chickens! The cottage is a bit hard to find at first, but once you know how to get to it you are sorted! The cottage is also ideally located as it is central to most of the main places in Derbyshire. I can certainly reccomend this accommodation to any who are wanting to spend some quality time in such a wonderful part of our country!

July 2018
This is a lovely place to stay, very relaxing and well equipt with everything you could need there at hand.. A couple of things to point out, the property is covered by CCTV with active camera's covering the garden but the signs were at the front of the barn next door so it was not immediately obvious it was active so for me it felt intrusive. The other thing was fly's inside the property particularly the kitchen and living area were an irritant all food had to be covered at all times and my step father was unable to rest in the armchair. Having said that neither of these issues affected the wonderful holiday we had and we will visit again in the future. **** Owner response; Thank you for spending some time to provide your feedback and we are happy you have had a wonderful holiday. The CCTV only operates at the entrance to the property and also covers the areas where guests park their cars. Their only use is security for the property and the guests visiting. We are sorry you had to deal with flies at the property, we will do everything we can to prevent this being an issue moving forward. Unfortunately being rural and close to farms, along with the hot weather this summer has meant a higher than normal amount of flies in the local area.

May 2018
Cow barn is in a great location though may not suit everybody.. great walks right from the front door and we used the car very little..nice walk into youlgrave where the pubs and cafe are all good and the couple of shops useful and reasonably well stocked. We had not been to the Peak District for some years and it reminded us just how beautiful the area is and how great the walks are with a choice to suit all abilities. Nice village and Chatsworth great for families.

November 2017
Amazing cottage, very tastefully refurbished to a very high standard.. Everything you need is there and the owners are very friendly. Plenty of space for our group of 7. Lovely views front and rear. Although only a mile from the village of Youlgreave the cottage feels remote with a bumpy drive to reach it. There is, however, a shorter walking route back to the village. The main room is spacious but feels cosy with a large woodburner. Although visiting in November the large patio area looks like it would be ideal for sitting out on a summer’s evening enjoying the views!
Mr Standeven
November 2017
It looked great from the photos but they don't do it justice - it really was a home from home - better in lots of respects because it had a lot more facilities than we do! The kitchen was equipped with everything you could possibly need, a great games cupboard, comfy beds and lovely toiletries, coupled with a fantastic, and remote, location. From the moment that Andy met us and showed us round, the weekend could not have been more perfect. Follow the instructions to the property carefully as the approach is part of the fun...especially in the dark!!

It is a shame the approach road is not better levelled and the gate to the farm is not more clearly marked, but we were given specific instructions and once we found the cottage it was ideal for our family weekend..

The countryside was beautiful and the accommodation was excellent - a really well done barn conversion. The standards were high throughout, every detail was attended to. February 2015
Wanted a girly weekend to catch up relax and chill. Couldn't have found a better place, hot tub was superb, the whole place was finished to the highest standard every detail no matter how small was thought of. There was eight of us but you think the cottage was catering for three times that with crockery, glasses, towels etc. on arrival there was a welcome pack of basics but also a very welcome bottle of wine and box of chocolates. My only negative it is not very well signposted which made it difficult to find especially in the dark when I arrived. A small niggle really. I would most definitely recommend the Cow Barn and I personally cannot wait to go back.
Mrs Dobson
January 2015
Wow wow wow, what a lovely property in a fantastic location. The accommodation is outstanding; it is decorated to a high standard, all eight of us did not want to leave. The hot tub, under floor heating and open fire all go to make this a fantastic property.

The Cow Barn is exceptionally well-equipped, with generous supplies of towels, excellent cooking and washing facilities, and lots of books, games and DVDs. The house sleeps 8 comfortably and there are two very good bathrooms. The owners are welcoming and friendly. We were ever so grateful to Tony for his help with the cars when the roads became icy after Christmas. We loved the wood burner and enjoyed our cosy evenings by the fire. The hot tub was great and we made good use of it despite the cold weather, sitting comfortably in the warm bubbles while admiring the snow-covered hills (special fluffy towels are supplied!). The location is idyllic, with a number of walks starting on the doorstep and the pretty village of Youlgreave nearby. We had a wonderful family Christmas at the Cow Barn and hope to come back soon.

We booked this cottage for a family break to celebrate a 60th Birthday. We were all delighted with the cottage which has been finished to the highest of standards. The open plan living area is great for socialising and the kitchen had everything you could possible need. The wood burning stove was a fantastic feature and made the evenings in cosy and relaxing. Outside there is a large paved sitting area and just beyond a wonderful hot tub with views to die for. The owners, Tony and Belinda, were always on hand to help with any questions and give recommendations for things to do and places to eat. All in all a wonderful holiday, in an exceptional cottage. Thank you!

November 2014
We had a lot of choice in Peak District accommodation as we were after a fairly standard 4 be property, but after trawling through options for about 2 days I knew I had found the perfect place when I saw The Cow Barn. OK, so I had to increase my budget slightly, but it was worth it and the photos are an accurate representation of the property. It is a quality, new, building kitted out with everything you could need. But, it also has a rustic charm because it has been so well designed with stone walls and country cottage style décor. We hung out in the open plan kitchen / diner with the large wood burner. It pumped out the heat and we actually had to open a window for a while. The hot tub can easily accommodate 6 people and has beautiful views over the countryside. The hot tub was new and clean. The only slight downside to the tub was that when used for over half an hour the temperature would drop and so after a while, it was necessary to cover it up and wait for it to regain heat. But, it was a cold and wet weekend and if it had been summer this would not have been an issue. The property is situated near to the village of Alport and infact you can walk to the village pub and church quite easily (although bring a torch for dark nights). There was so much to see and do nearby. We spent a day at Chatsworth House and another day exploring Matlock and the Heights of Abraham. There were lots of walking trails and it seemed a really popular place with hikers. My husband went for a long run on Sunday morning and loved it. We had a young baby with us and the cot, bedding and high chair were provided which was great. We were all very comfortable, but the house did seem to carry noise easily so we made sure to take the baby into the sitting room in the early morning rather than wake the other guests. There is a separate studio property that adjoins the main house. We didn't see the other folk staying there except that there is a polite rota for the hut tub - they can also use it and so you can request it for a specific time. This is not an issue as it's impossible to stay too long in a hot tub anyway. All in all a very good choice of property. We will probably be booking it again next year for another family holiday. Tony was a great host and was always available should we need him....which we didn't. He lives with his wife next door to the property. Ali and Patrick

October 2014
The Cow Barn is totally delightful There has been great thought into the decor and furnishings. The bed linen was superb. A good supply of bottled water, milk, A very welcoming bottle of wine, truffles, fresh laid eggs, tea, coffee etc and biscuits........ all a very nice touch, A plentiful supply of wood for the wood burner. Superbly large towels for use with the hot tub. Plenty of toilet roll, cleaning products and complimentary bathroom toiletries. The Cow Barn was very clean and very very welcoming. Beautifully decorated. The kitchen was very well stocked apart from only having 2 pans - not enough to cook for 8 person. but otherwise plenty of everything else There were DVDs, CDs, Books, Games TV and WiFi An obviously large amount has been spent on making this property a very high standard...... so why then is there a (very expensive) just one hot tub to share that comfortably only accommodated 4 - 6 When the cottage sleeps 8? And having to share with the annex (Cow Shed - sleeps 2) was uncomfortable. There was also the disturbing smell of bad drains that hit us every morning except our last one - it had rained all night. Would we go back? Yes if the hot tub was big enough for 8 - 10* adults and not shared. * The annex is offered as part of the Barn for groups up to 10 persons
