The place itself is lovely and very well kept. The cottage was smart but some facilities were lacking.Bed very comfortable and we will miss that. We had the same experience as previous person and wished we had seen their review before booking. Owner lives on site and is so very intrusive, when we arrived he stayed for over 20 minutes watching everything that was brought in. He said they are straight talking but as we found over the week he was quite rude. When we arrive there was 3 of us in the car and the dog,The third person was our son who was staying eleswhere down the road but wouldnt allow our dog. This seem to unsettle the owner immidiately so felt quite unwelcoming. As the 3 of us were out for most of the day and only returning for a late evening meal together due to the dog situation we could only eat together in the cottage. Afterwards we took our son to his property about 10pm. Afrer 2 night the owner came and said our son could no longer come for a meal as only allowed 2 people in the cottage for insurance purposes, which we felt was more of the fact they didnt like us going out at 10pm and ironic as he spent more time with us than our son did. After that we felt more of an atmosphere and the main gate that was unlocked previously during the day to allow freedom of movement was now padlocked all day every day and just felt like he was trying to prove something. As the other stated he treats you like a child especially with the inspection and really sets you on edge during your stay to the point you dread going back at the end of the day or if you dont get away from him when going to the car. This farm was very into its horses and stbles are at the front and exercised at the back, where the horses were the dog couldnt wasnt allowed. The other thing we found odd was the rule that if your dog wee's on the grass you have to wash the grass with a watering can. With this and the way he was staring at the dog when we arrived just makes you feel this should not be a dog friendly place. Sad becuse cottage is nice with lovely surrounding and the owners wife was helpful when our dog was hurt on one of the doors, but would not recommend to go because of the main owner.

Just back from a weeks stay at the Tawny owl, highly recommended! !!!! It,s in a beautiful location with easy access to see so much of Norfolk. The owners are lovely and always on hand to help if you need them for anything. The barns are done to perfection and of high standard, everything you will need is there for you, they have thought of everything which will make your stay even easier. A truly hidden gem!!!! We will definitely return as we just loved being there so peaceful and relaxing but especially to spend time again with the lovely Sid

The barn is lovely. Wonderful quiet location, lovely view over fields. Very comfortable bed. The owner is trying to be welcoming, but we found him a little invasive. He insisted on going through every detail of the property, when we would rather have been left in peace to read the instructions (which he was very adamant that we MUST read) and figure things out ourselves. His heavy handed, didactic way of talking about the rules felt unwelcoming. Please presume that your guests are good people who will leave the property in a good state.... rather than treating them like naughty children. Insisting on coming round at 9.30am on the day of our departure to inspect the place was belittling and unnecessary, and further disturbing of the little time we had there. We are both experiencing some difficulties in our life and needed some peace and quiet but every time we stepped out, he wanted to engage in conversation. If you are chatty and sociable, you may really enjoy this, I can see how some people would find him attentive and nice. But he didn't pick up any of our cues about wanting to be left alone and it made our time there a little anxiety inducing. We probably should not have booked somewhere with onsite owners.....but I also think the owner could try and assess which of his guests are eager to chat and which ones are not. In summary, if you are happy to engage and chat frequently with owner, and don't take offence at being spoken to like a child, I can truly recommend it for the lovely accommodation and location. If you prefer to be left alone you might not find this place suitable.

What a fantastic place to stay, high class self catering accommodation at it's best.. Max is a great host very friendly and knowledgeable about the local area. If your looking for peace and quiet in relaxing surroundings this is the place for you. Situated approx 1 km from the geographical centre of Norfolk no where is more than an hour away. We can thoroughly recommend a trip to the beach at Wells-next-the-sea followed a hot chocolate in the dog friendly beach cafe or fish and chips at either of the 2 fish and chip shops by the harbour. Tip don't park on the harbour, very expensive, park in the public car park about 200m away or down by the beach.

Fantastic!! Beautifully presented with everything you could need . Wonderful welcome from Max and exactly the peaceful place we wanted. Easy access to travel out and about if you wanted to or just sit and while the time away watching the horses during the day and bats over the garden at dusk. We will definitely be back.

First the owner was very nosey.. the cooking facilities were very old and the oven did not heat up properly, he didn't want the dog to be in the garden when he had the horses out , once a week they have a clay pidgeon shooting from 6.30pm so says we should go to the pup for a few hours lucky for us it finished the week before but next door said when they went before they were not warned and it was terrible, one day when my husband went out and I was in with the dog he came knocking very hard on the door because he thought we had left the dog in on its own, he stated more than once to make sure we left it clean and tidy which I always do,does he want it spring cleaned for him when we arrived he made sure we read a list of rules not very welcoming. WOULD NOT GO AGAIN

August 2018
The accommodation we stayed in had the wow factor.. It was clean and had everything we needed, and was tastefully decorated. There was also the novelty factor, us being townies, the barn was situated within the grounds of riding stables so we were able to watch their horses being put through their paces whilst having breakfast, how often do you see that? All in all a very enjoyable stay, and we would certainly go back and stay there again.

The cottage was cosy and very well equipped, it made the most of the space and the bathroom and shower were surprisingly generous in size too. The surroundings were stunning; at night seeing a blanket of stars and hearing just an owl in the distance is my perfect idea of getting back to basics. The owners were friendly, approachable and keen to offer tips and recommendations on the trip too.
