Southerness is a small coastal village established in the late 18th century, which looks out over the Solway Firth, and forms part of the Colvend coast, one of the finest stretches of coastline on the 'Scottish Riviera'. Home to two pubs, a village store, a leisure centre with a pool and two miles of sandy beaches with sand dunes, rock pools and Gulf Stream warmed waters, and one of the oldest lighthouses in Scotland, built in 1748, it has everything you will need for a relaxing holiday. The nearby Criffel Hill rises to 569m, offers wonderful views of the farmland and the sands of the Nith Estuary below, and provides great walking opportunities. The Southerness Championship Golf Course adjoins the village and offers panoramic views of the Solway Firth, the Cumbrian Lake District to the south and the Galloway Hills to the west. A great location, with something to keep everybody occupied.

The cottage was spotlessly clean which we fully appreciated.. Well supplied with practically everything you needed. Owner on hand if required which currently was reassuring. Cottage very warm as needed and we could regulate that to our own comfort. Plenty of hot water. Perfect location for exploring the area.

Fabulous cottage, a really lovely location and a home from home.. The owner was brilliant, welcome pack was a nice touch, and he also was quick to help sort any problems or queries we had during our stay. The cottage is a credit to the owner. We will definitely be returning!

We had a fantastic holiday.. The cottage was warm and is well equipped with everything we needed. It's beautifully furnished and was a pleasure to stay in. The views of Criffel were amazing and the surrounding countryside was lovely. We even got to sit outside in the garden on the last evening as the sun was shining.

It was brilliant.. I had booked the place for a few weeks for my business trip, the place was super clean and the cleaning lady would come regularly. The place is located conveniently , 20mins from town centre. Would recommend

We spent a wonderful week at Simmer Dim.. It's a beautiful, well-equipped, extremely clean cottage set in a tranquil location. This is the second time we have booked through Sykes and both times the cottages were of an extremely high standard.

The cottage was so well equipped, the owners had thought of everything.. It was comfortable and cosy and they even provided fuel for the log burner, a lovely welcome pack and extras, such as tea, coffee, toilet rolls etc. We have stayed in many cottages over the years and this has definately been the most well equipped. Thank you to Liz and Gavin for making our stay absolutely lovely. It was also nice to be able to book for the four nights rather than the usual week as a lot of cottages don't do short breaks. We have never had a bad experience booking with Sykes and have recommended them to all our friends and family and we hope to continue to book with them in the future.

Photos don't give a true representation of this lovely cottage.. It is a wee gem of a holiday home and is far nicer in reality. It is a very sociable home with plenty of very comfortable relaxing areas; around the kitchen table enjoying a freshly cooked meal (using the very well stocked kitchen and excellent hob/oven), the conservatory playing games, chatting to the chefs or watching the sun go down, or the cosy living room watching tv/dvds, listening to music or warming up around the log burning fire. The fire was roaring all weekend (with plentifully supplied logs) warming us after a very windy news years eve walk along Southerness lighthouse beach (less than 5 minute drive) and a news years day walk along the beautiful sandy hills beach (a short 10 minute drive away). With 4 children, we were very comfortable and Gavin (the owner) was very accommodating by leaving us a high chair and travel cot. The children also very much enjoyed the delicious cookies and the adults enjoyed the quality chocolates left out. A personal welcome note and a quick visit on our first morning was appreciated too. Other points to mention also include the good wi-fi (coped very well with streaming sky sports, spotify and video calls), the very very comfortable beds, the constant hot water (and the excellent powerful en suite shower), the dishwasher (always a bonus when self catering) and the washing machine/tumble dryer (great when travelling with young kids). Overall, our entire group very much enjoyed staying in this delightful holiday and will hopefully return again one day.

Sykes accommodated us moving properties approx 3 weeks before we stayed due to bad reviews on our first chosen property, they were very understanding and responded promptly to any queries we had which made this difficult change much easier.. The new property far exceeded our expectations the owners were very friendly and called round to introduce themselves the day after we arrived and gave us tips on the best beaches, this made them very approachable. The property was spacious and offered us every thing we needed. Everything is new and very clean, the kitchen is well equipped with the bonus of a washing machine and dryer. The bathrooms were compact but well equipped and the beds very comfortable. With the sun room and large sitting room there was plenty of room for the whole family and space to get that important quite time. We found that there was everything we needed to make the stay comfortable and relaxing all we had to supply was food and fun. On arrival Gavin and Liz had left a bountiful supply of tea, coffe and milk along with a fresh loaf of bread, cake and chocolate which is always a good start to your holiday after a long drive. The location is very quite and idylic, don't be put off by the road outside there is very little traffic and the house is set back and well insulated that you don't hear it. The cows are also extremely quiet which I have been told means they are very happy, my daughter loved cow spotting from the bedroom window. We would definitely return to Simmer Dim as the cottage and the area has so much to offer.
