I could only choose Nov 22, I actually went in June 22. It is a lovely cottage and very well equipped, but I was shocked on arrival on finding it far from easy to park. The photograph of the cottage is deceiving because that is the rear of the house. The front is awful, a cobbled street with cars parked either side. I reversed all the way down and parked literally on the front door step. A resident congratulated me on my reversing skills as he had watched many people struggle. Every day I had to go through the same rigmarole when going out to explore the area.

Cottage in lovely location very peaceful with beautiful walks straight from the door,we had a lovely week, cottage is quite old fashioned inside which didn't bother us but might not be to everyone's taste, and it definitely needs a new fridge as it's very old, view from twin bedroom is stunning and I love the window!a lovely spot to sit and chill.

We really enjoyed our stay and have already re booked for next year. On arrival we were greeted by a roaring log fire which was so welcoming after a long journey. The cottage is really close to the local village and we explored various walking routes throughout the week although it was just as nice to stay inside some afternoons as we really felt at home. The views were lovely and the furnishings were really comfortable. I honestly couldn't fault one thing.

I was absolutely astonished at how tired and down at heel the cottage is, we arrived after a long journey to find the decor old, tatty and out dated, the bathroom was barely functional and the furniture and furnishings dirty and thread bare, we could have dealt with that but when we went into the kitchen we were horrified and disgusted, every surface was sticky with old grease and had a smelly of rancid meat fat, we opened the oven to find old fat congealed in the door seal and on the surfaces, when we put the oven on the smell was gut wrenching, the heat melted the grease and it dropped from the roof on to the shelves below! With kitchen was very poorly equipped, there was a huge amount of coffee cups and saucers but the cooking equipment was old sticky and completely unusable! We tried to put it all through the dishwasher but it came out dirtier than when it went in as the filters were obviously blocked and filthy! We had no choice but to go and buy pans to cook with, luckily we had the foresight to take a halogen oven so we could cook decent meals! We put all this to Sykes Cottages but the owner had the audacity to deny that the kitchen is dirty! All I can say is that there are different levels of accepted cleanliness and for us locks cottage fell way below our standards! We have decided that it’s way to expensive to book a holiday cottage as turning up to a hovel that has cost over £300 is an expensive risk! It does have an award with 4 stars or rosettes awarded in 2016, but that is also dusty and dirty and it’s my assumption that the whole place hasn’t been cleaned or maintained since the day that the award was given. Please don’t let my experience put you off, if you like the description of the cottage then this is the place for you

Great cottage, larger than expected & very comfortable for 4 friends.. Very picturesque with a river end at end of garden. Stone walls kept cottage cool even on a red hot day. Parking a nightmare - only facilitates one car. Would definately book it again.

No. This was one of the best cottages we have booked through Sykes

This cottage is located at the end of a street of terraced houses.. There is no off road parking, you are tucked up to the front door. The cottage itself was OK. Not maintained to a high standard but safe. Furniture is shabby and old fashioned but not in a classic way. The kitchen is a good size but with variable equipment eg 2 dinner plates but 19 cups and saucers, 2 dessert spoons etc. Not much apparent effort from the owners. A pint of milk would have been nice as no shop nearby. Functional depending on amount of guests. The natural beauty of the back garden leading onto the mill pond was stunning, lovely walk into settle. Location good, very peaceful.

Lovely cottage, coal fire burning in the hearth when we got there and a lovely position next to the river and mill pond.. Would happily return and fully recommend it.

December 2018
What a welcome we received walking into the cottage to find a coal fire burning away and a beautifully decorated Christmas tree.. Set the scene for a few days comfortable stay. Thank you for the effort put into it. The beds were very comfortable, slept extremely well. The cottage is ideally situated with the views outside and plentiful walks on the doorstep.

Warm, cosy cottage which was very well equipped, spotlessly clean and for walkers an excellent location..

September 2018
It was a lovely cottage in beautiful surroundings.. However we were a party of 4 with 2 cars. Luckily they were not huge vehicles otherwise we would not have been able to park.It was a tight squeeze! I did let the owners know and apparantly there is a space to park if need be. If we had had 2 great 4=4 s were would not have parked by the cottage or anywhere else on the lane. We felt this should be mentioned to other guests whenthey book that there is space. It was a good hol and I am sure we will go again. Gill Beasley

This is a fantastic cottage in an incredible location.. Highly recommended for all ages - we were 2 adults, a 15month old baby and 60 year old grandmother and everyone had a great time. We stayed for the summer bank holiday weekend, but would have been happy to stay for a week. We were pleasantly surprised by the pond at the end of the garden and the picnic bench with umbrella to enjoy the garden with. It is at the end of a private road so it is very peaceful with no road noise. There are many local guides and leaflets in the house and a folder which has details of the local area including walking routes. We did part of one walk up the hill and to the Victoria and Jubilee caves which was lovely and there was lots of history included in the description of the walk.

Good. comfortable cottage, surprisingly spacious Absolutely fabulous location - lots of easy to middling walks nearby, with more challenging ones not too far away

Self-Catering facilities a shambles.. Suggest the owners spend a week there self-catering. Fridge not working on arrival, phoned and the cleaning girl came. Didn't know what was the problem and did something eventually, she nor I know what, and the fridge did come on. Microwave had no instructions and as you know every microwave is different in appearance and operation . There was an instruction book hidden under a lot of other leaflets etc, but it was for a different microwave, presumably the one before this. Dining cutlery and crockery fine but not so the cooking and food preparation equipment. A few examples - kitchen scissors looked like a pair of children's paper-cutting scissors, could hardly get an adult finger and thumb in the holes. There were no fewer than 3 can openers, 2 of which did not work at all and the other did but with some difficulty. Spoons for cooking and/ or serving inadequate, one wooden one with very short handle, one oversized metal one. Fortunately we took ready-cooked main meals with us and ate out half the time. It would have driven me potty trying to prepare food with that equipment. It had the look of things that one no longer wanted in the kitchen at home and the cottage was a dump for them.

April 2018
This was not a 4 star cottage.. It smelled of cigarettes as soon as you walked in. It didn't provide bare bone basics like hand soap, any mini toiletries, no coffee, tea, coffee maker, any basic spices or anything. The decor was very dated (ok this was in the pictures, but it still doesn't make it 4 star). The owner didn't leave any information behind about the WiFi or the local area. Indeed the WiFi didn't even work. The neighbours in the adjacent (cheek by jowl) cottages weren't very friendly - not one greeted us when we were coming/going. Very disappointed - we paid a lot of money for this weekend away!

My husband and I have just returned from a wonderful week in this beautifull cottage. The accomadation is clean, well maintained and is in an ideal location for walkers and cyclists. When the weather was warm enough we enjoyed relaxing in the garden watching the wildlife on the mill pond. The owner Janet takes great pride in her business so there for nothing is to much trouble. We will definitely be returning. Many thanx. X

June 2017
On arriving at Locks Cottage there was a damp "Musty" smell as for being a Quiet Peaceful haven as advertised there is a right of way to the front and side where drunken youths were climbing the wall in the garden and Sykes and the owner say there is off road parking which there is not you have to park your car up against the front door. We booked 7 days but the smell got so bad that we left after 2 days. when we complained to Sykes and the owner were aggressive and they both refuse to give us a refund nor an apology

December 2015
Locks Cottage was really lovely. We were welcomed by a lovely coal fire which made the cottage feel very comfortable and cosy. As we stayed at the cottage in December this was a very welcome sight when we walked in, as it was cold and wet outside. The bed was really comfortable and we had a good nights sleep, as was the furniture in the lounge and we were able to relax throughout our stay. The position of the cottage was lovely, looking over the Mill Pond from the back and a lovely quiet terrace to the front. All in all a lovely quiet place for a relaxing short holiday, hopefully we can stay longer next time.
Mr Wilson
November 2015
The cottage provided us with all we needed for a relaxing weekend break. It is clean, well appointed with equipment meaning there is more time to relax. If I could give it 6 stars, I would. We will be booking it again soon, this time for a week. Thank you to the owner.

This was one of the best holiday cottages we have visited from Sykes. The location is superb, so peaceful and very quiet, with so much to see and do within the local area and the Dales. The cottage is beautifully equipped all over and very tastefully decorated. There are a number of special touches and details throughout the cottage which made for a most welcome and comfortable holiday. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and were able to relax in this most special, cosy setting. We hope to be able to return one day.

October 2013
The situation close to Settle but not in Settle and also on a mill pond with ducks coming up to the house as we ate breakfast. As a base for numerous walks and for access to Settle this is a wonderful spot. The Cottage was very comfortable and the owner was very helpful.

October 2013
We were looking for a relaxing stay in the Dales with plenty of countryside to enjoy , day trips and long walks on the hills. Settle is a fine base. Janet , the property owner , has furnished and equipped the cottage well. We slept well and enjoyed watching ducks walking on the back lawn as we ate breakfast. The walk into Settle along the canal and river bank is about 20 minutes. The drive is perhaps 5 minutes. In Settle is a delightful café - the Naked Man Café from where you can view the comings and goings of the market place. For a week our Canadian family could not immediately contact us as this was one of the few spots that did not have Wi-Fi or mobile phone access- a relief for us! .Wi-Fi is available at the Naked man and mobile phone reception improves dramatically 400 meters up the road. All in all we had a great stay in rural Yorkshire and loved the Dales. Janet was very helpful in forwarding our camera which we left in the Cottage.

Great Cottage would rent again - however I am extremely disappointed by the rental company which seams to be passing my email address to everyone including this website which I've never signed up to. The only reason I am leaving a review is that the cottage was wonderful and I doubt they know that the agency is passing on renters details. Property was well maintained and very welcoming. Tucked away in a valley, pond at bottom of garden. Only downside is the public footpath giving no privacy in garden.

December 2009
The service was first class due to the cleanliness of Lock’s Cottage and the homily atmosphere it created. First impression of walking thru the front door was welcoming. Lock’s Cottage had everything that was required to make anyone’s stay enjoyable. The open fireplace was a welcome addition, which was used on cool and chilly evenings. It was a home away from home with no need to go looking for any utensil for cooking. 0ne could sit in the garden and enjoy the tranquility of the ducks swimming by on the millpond. Being situated by a ramblers’ path, we walked into Settle which is ten minutes away. Right out the front door, you can walk to the weir, to observe on the bridge the waterfall and salmon run. I highly recommend any visitor to stay in this glorious part of the Dales. One could not expect anything more when staying in Lock’s Cottage. Everything best, nothing least.

I had a sprained ankle so I was delighted that I could rest up in a warm, cottage with a lovely aspect - it really was a home from home. The Black Horse at Giggleswick served fantastic food and would love to vist again. The Dales ought to be seen and viewed by everyone - England really has some lovely scenery!

we enjoyed our holiday and the town of settle so much that we booked into a hotel for another 2 nights. The garden was great because of the fact that it had a pond at the end of it and everything about the cottage and its setting was fantastic. We would go back and book with yourselves again in an instant.
