Just returned from a great week at this cottage. If your looking for a peaceful get away with nobody around then this is the perfect location. Sitting outside in the lovely weather taking in the view of Loch Ryan was fantastic. Had some amazing days out too, walking and mountain biking at Kirroughtree, coastal walk from Portpatrick (passing a house from Grand Designs), and the fabulous Mull of Galloway (great cafe here by the way). Some lovely little beaches around too, Port Logan and Sandhead were favourites. Great history around Cairnryan that I wasn't aware of regarding the WW2 port and Wig Bay RAF seaplane base. There is actually and old WW2 gun emplacement next to the cottage. The areas above were also filming locations of the Gerrard Butler movie The Vanishing (had to watch it when I got home). Sampled some good restaurants in the area, Tigh Na Mara at Sandhead and Austins at Girvan were very good. The only reason for not giving five stars is the road leading up to the cottage. It starts off fine (Tarmaced) but then turns to rough stones, no problem in a 4x4 but a little tricky in a sportier car with low profile tyres, its doable but had to go very slowly. Takes about 7 minutes from end to end. All in all I would definitely recommend Little Laight. Amazing if you get good weather like we did.

This is our second visit to Little Laight and we have booked again for next year, the only thing I feel is missing would be the lack of Internet, we brought Bolt on connections via our mobile phone but they drained fairly quickly, the other thing would be to have a large fenced off area so the dog could run around chasing the ball etc, but ha ho it’s a lovely cottage with a great view..

Turned up gone 4pm and the cleaners hadn’t even been, we contacted the owner to let him know that no one had been and if he could help with finding out a time as if I went shopping I’d have perishable items, had No reply from owner (all week). In the end we had to sit outside the property and didn’t get in until 6:30pm. When I entered the property before the cleaners there was a Smoke alarm left on the kitchen side with a note saying that it needed new batteries, this was still in the same place when we finally got in the cottage. When I looked around I noticed that All bedding and towels were dirty and covered in dog and human hair, Both baths were Full of human and dog hair, there were Clothes from the previous occupant left in the house and food under the bed and on a door frame. All the throws and cushions are clearly not being washed Between occupants as was full of dirt and dead flies. The sofa also looked like it had been used as a dog bed. Had to clean the house before we could enjoy our holiday as sadly it wasn’t cleaned anywhere near normal standards let alone the new Covid standards I was told the cottage would receive. I contacted Sykes with my review and have been completely ignored! Such a shame as it’s lovely cottage with absolutely stunning views and great walks!

There were some issues with a very late handover and a less than friendly reception from the contract cleaners .. There were also a few matters of housekeeping and some of the kitchen items need to be replaced. We have contacted the owner on our return to express our disappointment with the above and received an apology and a promise to investigate. At the time of writing a week later we have yet to hear from the owner.

The house was huge with lots of space.. The views from the house we're out of this world. The house was always warm and the kitchen was well equipped.

The only downside to this location is the lack of a WiFi facility and no means to recycle rubbish.. Everything else was good.

Little Laight is truly remarkable.. It’s remote yet luxurious. The views are outstanding. The tranquility just perfect to help you relax and unwind. The kitchen is very well equipped. The rooms elegantly yet comfortably furnished. It’s wonderful for walking to see amazing sunsets over Loch Ryan at the old WW2 artillery buildings. Perfect position to visit Galloway Dark Sky Park to see the stars and for the Mull of Galloway, remote and spectacular. We absolutely loved our stay here. 10/10 !! Very minor point -there’s no hairdryer. Point of clarity - the drive up the single track road and final dirt track is not exactly correct. It’s a very long way! Worth it of course but it took on average 8-9 minutes. Although a 4WD would be faster and my car is sporty and a little low. It would not be possible or feasible in a sports car. Nor for people without a car. Would I recommend Little Laight? 100% Is it amazing? Yes Should you go? Yes 100%.

Lovely cottage with all mod cons although water pressure is a bit low due to no mains water. Being so high up the cottage is subject to strong winds which makes sitting out difficult sometimes. Great isolated location with good views out to see. Situated in farmland so cattle and sheep roaming free. Dogs on lead at all times so little bit restrictive for him. Still had a good break and would highly recommend taking points into consideration.

The cottage is spacious and comfortable in a fantastic location - perfect for exploring the area.. The views are incredible, especially sunsets over Loch Ryan, and we loved the remoteness with nothing but sheep and cows for our neighbours.

We loved Little Laight and it was our third visit.. Would have liked it even more if there had been WiFi. The 'Sheepy Shenanigans' were very entertaining and made our holiday.- I videoed them so I can replay it when I'm sad!!!

Cottage was in an ideal location for us - very remote.. The cottage was warm and well equipped for comfort. The only thing for us that let it down was the showers. In both bathrooms, it wasn't possible to adjust the shower head in the holder on the wall which meant the water sprayed out of the bath and soaked the floor. Not having a shower you can use is an inconvenience. Overall the cleanliness was good however the oven could have done with a clean.

We’ve stopped at this cottage a couple of times now and when you arrive you feel like you’re entering a totally remote part of Scotland, but your only a few miles from Stranraer. The ferry service to Ireland is literally on your doorstep at the end of the track. The facilities in the cottage are excellent and it’s so well kept and cleaned to the highest standard. If you enjoy walking then there are numerous walks on the doorstep also and if you fancy a game of golf don’t forget Turnberry is just up the coast. As for myself I enjoy the fishing in the area and for expert advice on where to fish I recommend you pop and see the proprietor of the Sports shop Eric, in Stranraer, who will spend time with you and tell you where is fishing well.

If you want perfection stay home, if you want a lovely peaceful cottage overlooking Loch Ryan, with beautiful fields in all directions this is the place to come, it is up a long mostly unmade track which you do have to go up slowly partly so you can stop and admire the views but also because of the sheep and occasional rabbits.. (Most cars would have no problem with this track unless you have lowered suspension). There is no WiFi, but mobile phone signal is good, we brought a monthly roaming bolt on and got the Internet fine. All the main Supermarkets are nearby, and I can honestly say it was one of the best cottages we have been to, and the weather was lovely too. We miss it already.

The track leading up to the property is extremely stoney and rough (this is advertised, but is still too rough in places.. ) The views are fantastic and the local people are extremely friendly and helpful. The type of area is ideal for people who are physically fit. Accomodation itself is excellent, quiet, relaxing, nothing bad to say about it. We all enjoyed our time there.

Beautiful comfy cottage, must be very cosy in winter.. Has all you need except some comfortable outside chairs. Only wooden style picnic table which was better than nothing. Great views from the cottage. Rough track as stated, would not like to try it in low sports car.

An excellent cottage in a very remote area.. Only let down by a few minor niggles , cleanliness of the oven and freezer. And the lack of outdoor seating- only one picnic table for a cottage that sleeps 6, had to go out and buy our own deckchairs.

Pros.... Peaceful (mostly), comfortable, loads of room, well equipped, virtually no light pollution at night. Cons... No BBQ (at least we couldn’t find one and it’s in the property details section on Sykes), shower is almost impossible to use, noisy windmill, complicated oven! Little Laight is so close to the perfect holiday cottage, great location, spacious and comfortable, breathtaking views and ideal for star gazers (never seen so many stars at night). It’s very close to the A77 and ferries to Belfast and Larne. However, we had to google the instructions for the incredibly complex oven controls. The angle at which the shower head fits to the wall causes water to splash all over the floor unless the tap is turned down to a miniscule dribble. The constant whoshwhoshwhosh from the windmill on the north side of the property is quite loud meaning we couldn’t open the bedroom windows at night. The positives comfortably outweigh the negatives and with a few adjustments this really would be the perfect holiday cottage. We would still highly recommend Little Laight as it’s a great base for anyone wanting to explore this beautiful part of Scotland.

Second visit.. Accommodation was outstanding but weather not so hot... in more ways than one.(Back home everyone was enjoying a heat wave, allegedly!) We had a little rain, high winds, thick sea mist, glorious sunshine and even saw the northern lights from the back of cottage. Nothing stopped us going out and enjoying our holiday. The lambs were as cute as ever! We came back and booked again for next year! I was a bit worried on Friday as the lack of wind stopped the turbine going round, thankfully everything still worked - lol! This meant we had a lovely morning sat outside on the picnic bench. We had a distant lesson in dry stone walling and a visiting pheasant, which I think the previous tenements had been feeding, and saw deer in the woods near Lairds Hill. We were fascinated with the Ferry captain reversing ghe Larne ferry into the dock, on our return to Little Laight, one evening. All in all we had a great time and the dogs enjoyed the garden, the local beaches and a good rest after a busy day out. Little Laight is a great chill out zone for everyone. WiFi would be grea, if only to check the weather forecast as we only get the Irish weather forecast and news, and to check the Glendale aurora status reports.

Not on the beach.. Need a 4 wheel drive to comfortably reach property ( rough, with lots of potholes etc.) Very peaceful and relaxing, everyone locally, was very friendly and helpful. Not much around in good quality eating out, so go prepared! Better beaches on the other coast, at Portpatrick, Cairnryan is more of a commercial port ,

We had an absolutely wonderful time at Little Laight. The location is superb with stunning views over Loch Ryan. The large enclosed garden would be ideal for children, with the added benefit of sheep and cattle on the adjoining land to look at. Many a happy hour was spent walking locally with our border collie, with an abundance of places to walk with only the sound of bird song and animals. The cottage is well equipped, with genuinely all you would expect, to make your stay comfortable. Access to the property via a private road/ track up the hillside became a bit tedious towards the end of our week due to the roughness of the ride, as 60% of the way is on stones, be prepared it takes ten minutes from the A75 to the cottage, but don't let that deter you as the cottage and location are well worth the bumpy journey to get there.

We have just returned from a lovely week at Little Laight. The cottage is just perfect in every way from the beautiful furnishings to the absolutely outstanding views. We just loved our weeks break so much and have arrived home feeling very chilled and relaxed. The cottage has everything you could possibly need with everything thought of. It is furnished to a very high standard and the views are just outstanding. It was just perfect for us and our two little dogs and we will definitely be returning, we are so pleased to have found this accommodation. The area of Cairn Ryan is beautiful as is surrounding areas of Stranraer and a lovely little harbour village Port Patrick. We really will miss Little Laight !

WONDERFUL COTTAGE IN A BEAUTIFUL LOCATION.. THE VIEWS OVER THE LOCH WERE WONDERFUL AND THE SURROUNDING COASTLINE IS STUNNING. DOGS HAD A FABULOUS TIME ON THE LONG BEACHES. THE COTTAGE ITSELF IS EXTREMELY COMFORTABLE AND WARM WITH A LARGE ENCLOSED GARDEN AREA. WE WILL GO AGAIN IN THE FUTURE. A WONDERFUL WEEK.

We had a fantastic week in this beautiful cottage.. The cottage is furnished to a very high standard and the views are absolutely outstanding . We will definitely be returning and have returned home feeling totally relaxed. The area around the cottage is just beautiful with lovely little places to visit. We had some amazing walks with our two little dogs . This cottage would be great for families with young children because the space inside and out is massive . We really had an amazing and totally relaxed week and we are so happy to have discovered Little Laight !
