Property Description

Holiday home
Bobbin Cottage is a beautifully-presented, traditional Grade II listed terraced cottage in the historic village of Cromford, Derbyshire and can sleep two people. There is a king-size double bedroom, a bathroom, a kitchen and a sitting room with a woodburner and dining area. Outside there is unrestricted parking in the roadside pull-off outside the property on a first come, first served basis. No garden but small seating area available, off path shared by cottages in terrace (see picture). No bike storage at property so bikes would need to be left in the car. Bobbin Cottage is a wonderful holiday base.

Accomodation Details
One king-size double bedroom. Bathroom with bath, shower over, basin and WC. Kitchen. Sitting room with dining area and woodburner.

Area
The charming Peak village of Cromford is set in a wooded gorge by the River Derwent and is surrounded by tree-covered hills and cliffs. Cromford is known as the 'cradle of the Industrial Revolution' and attractions in and around the village reflect this. One of these is Cromford Mill, which has been fully restored and is now designated as a World Heritage Site. The village has three public houses and a variety of shops, however for more amenities the towns of Matlock and Matlock Bath are close by. Other attractions in the area include Gulliver's Kingdom family theme park, Chatsworth House and many more. This area has much to offer and makes a great base for a holiday.

Region
The ultimate in "year-round" appeal, the Peak District offers countryside, picturesque villages and magnificent scenery. It touches upon six counties and encloses 555 square miles of open moorland, flowing rivers, and wooded dales.

Amenities
Gas central heating with woodburner. Electric oven and hob, microwave, fridge/freezer, TV with Freeview, catch up TV, DVDs and WiFi. Fuel and power inc. in rent. Bed linen, towels and starter pack for woodburner inc. in rent. Unrestricted parking in roadside pull-off outside property on first come, first served basis and additional roadside parking on road opposite on first come, first served basis. Easy transport links, with rail station outside village and bus stops on the doorstep. No garden but small seating area available, off path shared by cottages in terrace (see picture). Two well-behaved pets welcome. Sorry, no smoking. Shops, pubs and restaurants 3 mins walk. Note: The cottage is on the B5036 road so there is road noise especially at peak times, but property benefits from secondary double glazing and blanket lined curtains to minimise this, however, some noise may still be heard. Note: Stairs may be steep for some but there is a handrail. Note: Babes-in-arms only.

We booked Bobbin Cottage as a late summer break towards the end of September. The cottage provided the perfect base to explore the local history and the Peak District. The cottage was very cosy, the bed was comfortable and everything that we could have hoped for was provided. We had a lovely break in this historic village. Our dog loved the walks around the village away from the main roads, especially along the canal.

Loved the cottage, it felt like a real home from home.. Pretty, cosy and clean with everything you could need. Pubs and eating places on the doorstep, as well as beautiful walks.

The cottage was lovely! We had pretty much everything we needed (things like salt and pepper, oil etc. would have been useful for cooking but we completely understand this may well have been due to corona). We appreciated the butcher recommendation and the instructions were very clear for everything we needed to and could do during our stay. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this cottage and would definitely stay again if visiting this area. Thank you

This was a small old (mill? ?) worker's cottage - and was fabulous. Situated in Cromford which owes it's existence to the mills and is steeped in this heritage. It was what we went for and what we definitely found. There was so much more to explore and discover - more to do with the cotton mills and more to do with the earlier lead mining industry. The walking was superb - not enough hours in the day to do all we wanted. The cottage was just right for the two of us and our two dogs. SOOOO.. good to find dog friendly cottages - Sykes never fail us. Sykes booking and support systems easy and second to none. Thank you.

The cottage was very cosy and comfortable. As a lone visitor (plus dog), I felt very safe and secure. The bed was exceedingly comfortable! It was very well equipped for both human and doggy guests. Lovely local walks (and further afield if preferred), with a great bus service from right outside the door. The local shopkeepers were friendly and welcoming. A lovely place to relax and unwind.

Tastefully decorated, good sofas and lovely comfortable bed, lack of garden does not matter given the beautiful walks on the doorstep. Kitchen well-equipped, and definitely recommend Arkwrights general store and especially Figgshaws butchers a short walk downhill. If you fancy a meal out we wouldn't hesitate to recommend the Tapas bar in the Market Place, it was absolutely delicious and very good value. The walks around Cromford detailed by the owners were great, but also thoroughly enjoyed the Monsal Trail from Blackwell Mill in Chee Dale (where the gentleman at the cycle hire shop was particularly helpful) to Bakewell. Chatsworth House is definitely worth a visit even just the gardens if you have dogs, as is a trip to the Heights of Abraham country park via cable car from Matlcok Bath. Spectacular scenery everywhere, brilliant holiday all round.

Just back from a week in Cromford staying at this gorgeous cottage! Beautifully decorated & clean. Really was home away from home! Out & about all day then home to nice food...even used the slow cooker one night! No problem with traffic noise despite being on A6! 8 hours sleep most nights. Would highly recommend!

Lovely cottage in a fabulous part of the world.. Lots to do in the village and not far to many surrounding lovely areas. One little tip - we got back late one evening to find all the parking spaces outside the cottage taken. It's not easy to park elsewhere as all the roads are very steep and mostly narrow - and residents parking. Did find space near the school at the end of North Road (near the pub) which was only a few minutes walk. Cottage had everything we'd expect and good clear instructions about things such as the rubbish collection and how to work the central heating and TV options.

Overall the cottage is very nice & clean.. Easy access,& parking outside cottage very good. Buses to all local villages extremely good,no need to use the car.Bakewell is a must,as is the vintage tram village & the cable cars. Noisy ,very busy main road outside cottage but don’t let that put you off staying at bobbin cottage as secondary double is very good. Made mistake of leaving bedroom window open first night hardly slept at all ☹️☹️ But after that closed everything & left bathroom window open for air flow which worked a treat, hardly could hear it at all...stairs are steep & uneven ,hard to handle if you have mobility problems . Be aware their is no garden for a dog to be let out into , just a seat outside the back door . Shower was good, but plug/ drain needs clearing out as standing in 6” water when taking a shower ,takes a age to drain away. Never had a bath , would imagine could take all day to run away not a mayor problem but does need sorting out. We liked bobbin cottage & Cromford, nothing of the above remarks would put us off from returning.

A super little cottage.. Perfect for two. Great they take dogs. We knew in advance it was on a busy road but this did not trouble us. Once inside it was very cosy and quiet. Would recommend this property and the village of Cromford. A hidden gem.

Just back from a three night stay at Bobbin Cottage & we couldn't fault it. Super clean & decorated beautifuly. Little things go a long way and the well equipped kitchen & little touches like dog fleeeces provided & helpful local information from the owners prior to arrival were appreciated by us. A lovely relaxing weekend for us & we are looking forward to returning.

The cottage is brilliant, very clean and well equipped.. Cromford is well situated for exploring the many beautiful natural areas and places of interest. Buses go from outside the cottage door which was brilliant. Used the local shops and they were very reasonably priced and well stocked. Very friendly and welcoming people. The only point I would make is, it is on a very very busy road with traffic thundering past constantly.

Gorgeous clean, comfy dog friendly cottage, in a really beautiful setting.. Easy to park. Lots of places in the village (all dog friendly too) to visit- really geat standard of food and drink and absolutely everywhere we went the people were so friendly and welcoming. We are definitely going to come back as soon as we can. Please be aware theres a very busy road through the village- its quite noisy when youre outside but dont let it put you off- the cottage has secondary glazing and really keeps the noise out. You literally dont hear a peep! Had 2 excellent nights sleep!!

Owner contact was good and friendly, only downside to our stay was the ridiculously busy road/junction and the noise of the traffic in the cottage..

The cottage is very comfortable and although dog friendly (we took our dog) it smells very fresh and clean.. It's well stocked and brilliant location which meant we didn't use the car at all on our stay and did some great circular walks from home. The village has everything you need and we did our food shopping locally and ate in 2 dog friendly pubs. Many leaflets in the cottage for walks and food menus and the owners have put together a useful manual. Will definitely be booking again in the future.

Had a lovely weekend at bobbin cottage Cottage is ideally situated in cromford excellent for walking cycling shopping or just relaxing . Cottage was nice and clean with lovely wood burner . Kitchen was well equipped even a small slow cooker Nice hot shower and bath Bed was really comfortable Loads of information left by the owners on local walks and cycling routes .parking outside cottage Overall excellent cottage will be staying again . Looking at other review it was mentioned there could be a fire risk as the windows didn't open fully personally I would use the door as it's next to the windows in question

Nice cottage, problems no garden for dogs, only a seat outside on a public path. Windows at back of house open a few inches before hitting pipes not very good if there's a fire. We found the cottage was on a very busy road and to noisy to leave bedroom window open at night. Cromford is a lovely place, shame about Bobbin cottage and it's problems.

It's a shame that people pass through Cromford to go to the "proper" peaks, as this is a brilliant area for walking, local real ale, good food and live music, so we found! Cromford is a busy working village due to nearby quarries, so expect large lorries in the village. Not that it will bother the guests much in their cosy double glazed cottage. If you haven't researched the area before you go, look through the information and maps thoughtfully left by the owners, whilst sipping a glass or two. The cottage is well appointed, but still has the feeling of being in the Peak District. There are nearby pubs and cafes (recommend The dog friendly Boat Inn, and Parkys for wonderful cake and breakfast) if you don't want to eat in. Nearby rail and bus will take you to other places well worth a visit.

On arrival we were relieved to find Bobbin Cottage was clean and well presented- it literally looks exactly as it does in the photos (a rarity with dog-friendly accommodation!). It's tastefully decorated throughout and has clearly gone through recent redecoration. The area is lovely, although it was wet during our stay, with lots of attractions and stunning walks right from the doorstep. Would recommend to guests with small/medium dogs as there isn't really any outdoor space, but a small bench for a morning coffee was more than sufficient for us and our lurcher (I'd recommend Parkys in Cromford for a cracking morning coffee- very reasonable and squeaky clean with friendly owners!) Although the property is on quite a busy road once you're inside the triple-glazing seems to dull any real road noise; slept brilliantly in the comfy King-size bed. A great little cottage to explore the wonderful Derby Dales from. We hope to come back!
