cottage ok.lovely hot tub at the top of very steep drive, No outside space for relaxing not so dog friendly, actually on the farm so be prepared for farm smells, can not open windows lots lots of flies from animals and manure yuk, dogs barking for 2 nights untill I asked isabelle if she could keep them quiet which she did but also said you are on a farm, with sheep, cows, bulls, horses chickens.the description of the cottage on many sites is not described properly.we would not return to that property we would rent another.the village of gosforth is beautifull and the area.

We booked this cottage and had ample space for 4 adults, 3 children, and 3 dogs! Isobel the host was lovely, and suggested walks for us. loved the orchard, and the horses. the cottage is within easy reach of mountains and lakes one way, or beach fun the other way. Fabulous bakery in the village, and also a fairly well stocked shop. a trouble and problem free holiday! Perfect!

We had a great time staying at Bleng Barn Farm.. The owners were onsite and friendly and helpful. Isabelle took my son out on the farm and let him help feed the animals. It was a quiet, peaceful location but with easy reach of the village, and Seascale beach. The cottage was perfect for the 7 of us. Lots of mountain biking, walking, lake swimming, all in a totally beautiful location.

The main problem was down stairs was very tired.. The three piece suite was very old, in a poor condition and uncomfortable. The dining table was made up with legs of one table and the top of another ,it was easy to catch your knees when sitting down. The crockery and cooking equipment ,baking trays ect were made up of oddments, nothing matched. There was no cupboard space to store any food stuffs, food had to be kept on a work surface This caused a problem as the work surfaces were very limited and this made it dificult to dish up a meal. There is a fridge freezer to store frozen and chilled foods. The floor is very scratched and need looking at. Up stair was in very good condition ,beds were comfortable and linen provided was good and clean. There is a height issue with low beams as the bedrooms are in the eaves. Access to the property is up a very steep incline and would be difficult for anyone with mobility issues.( Picture of accomodation does not show how steep the incline is.) The decoration through out was in good condition and the owner lives on site and is available if there any problems. The local area has very good places to eat and many nice places to visit.

We wanted all the beds made up as singles, this was done as requested and willingly.. Isobelle, the farmer, was around and available although we had no problems, the cottage was perfect for our needs with a well equipped kitchen and plenty of towels provided. We stayed during lambing season and it was an added point of interest to see and hear the new lambs, and see the farm in action. The cottage is well situated for access to the western lakes, as well as the beach, and only a few miles from the station. We had a really wonderful holiday and would love to return one day.

It’s very comfortable, warm, well equipped and spacious.. Being attached to a working farm offers other opportunities too - seeing horses and sheep being let out into the fields, getting insight into the life of a working farm. Everything has been thought of - the drawers are full of games, maps, leaflets about the area, and it’s altogether so inviting we are booking a return stay.

The village is a 20 min walk away not 10 min.. A really good village shop sells everything. Good pubs with food. Very warm and comfortable cottage. Not much headroom in bedrooms. Otherwise really good.

Location wise was superb.. Lots of low level walks around here near blengdale forest for an energetic dog and family. There’s an orchard and Isobelle let my wife pick some fruit which made a terrific crumble. It is located at the end of the farm courtyard so very secure and isn’t overlooked. The cottage needs a little modernisation but this would make it more expensive I guess so all in all good value compared with others.

The brochure / site needs to make it clear that the cottage is actually in the farmyard.. Mrs Ostle was very helpful with the minor problems we did have with bedding and gas.

I can agree with other reviews about the cottage itself, it is very comfortable and warm and was more than spacious enough for my partner and I, our teenage son, my elderly mum and our two dogs. The living area and kitchen are open plan and there was adequate space to cook but there is no cupboard space for food unless you move around the very many tea cups to free up a small shelf. There is also a wetroom/loo/utility room downstairs and the shower was mostly great, tho' the hot water did cut out on a couple of occasions. The patio area in the photo is quite sloped and this leads to a more sloped, short driveway into the farmyard. This 'patio area' is where you have to park your car(s) and from where you will need to reverse down the slope, into the yard to get out of the property. My mum found it particularly difficult to get in and out of the car, especially in the pouring rain. The patio is ungated and there is no private access to the cottage either by car or on foot, you do have to go through the working farm yard. This means that if the horses/sheep/cows are moving along the slope you would have to wait. We were led to believe that we had access to the field at the back of the farm 'for ball games and/or to exercise the dogs'. This was impossible. The fields are either full of livestock or full of their manure. There is a small area of grass across from the cottage but you have to go down some steps at one end and it is unlit and very uneven. There is a small gate at the further end but this takes you near the kennels. At the bottom of the slope are housed the three farm dogs. Upon arrival we were told that they are territorial and we should give a shout to the owner's if we are coming thru' the yard on foot in case they are loose. The dogs were generally in their kennels or chained up but barked quite aggressively each and every single time we ventured out of the cottage with our dogs, either for a morning walk or for their late night pee. They also barked at our car entering/leaving the yard and on several occasions would be barking incessantly for quite a time in the middle of the night. On our very first morning my partner and I went out quite early with (thankfully) just our young labrador. There is a nice walk that runs past the farm yard. Unfortunately as we returned and reached the second farm gate (prior to the yard) we were spotted by a farm dog and the dog of the farm hand. They came tearing out of the second yard pursuing my dog (who was on lead) ferociously around and around me. The farm hand's dog grabbed my dog by the neck and shook him for what felt like an age. The farm worker called his dog, which after a few calls ran to the yard, it ran back out and had another go before we got away, all of us quite shaken. The owners daughter gave a non apology of saying it isn't their dog and she doesn't know why he does that. (present tense). I was immensely glad my mum and her dog were not with us on that walk as the dog is 19 and would not have survived such an attack. This put a pall on the whole week as we were very nervous of leaving the cottage for our walks, and scared that we would encounter the farm hand's dog again. It was still allowed off lead in the yard and near our cottage door throughout the week. It attacked our car on our return to the farm one evening, jumping up and scratching the paintwork on one side before running round the car trying to get at our dog. This and the persistent barking whenever we were around was a real downer on our week. I wouldn't go back there, even without a dog. I certainly was glad not to have any small children with us.

Firstly, I would say that the main purpose of our trip to The Lake District was to climb Scafell Pike and the cottage is in the ideal location for this. There is a national trust car park about 15 minutes drive from the cottage. The surrounding scenery is very beautiful and when you are advised that the property is set on a working farm, this is absolutely right. The cottage was very homely with adequate room and facilities for 4 adults and 2 young children. It boasts the original beamed ceilings (beware tall people) and was warm and cosy. I would have liked a small tray with a pint of milk etc to welcome us after our long journey but maybe I have just been spoiled in previous farm properties I've stayed at. The property could have been restored a little more sympathetically I thought and the decor more tailored to the farm house style, all a bit tired looking. I felt it could have been cleaned a little more thoroughly (especially the microwave and fridge/ freezer). However, most importantly the bed and bath linen was fresh and the beds extremely comfortable. Unfortunately, we didn't get any lie -ins as the farm dogs were very noisy and the cows, who were in sheds in the yard for the winter were very vocal at all times of the day and night. As we had two children who never stay in bed later than 6.30am we were up anyway. I could see this could be a problem for light sleepers or those who enjoy staying in bed. We also had a bit of a problem with flies in the cottage during our stay, but the owners were quick to provide us with extra fly spray and the sticky fly ribbons that you hang up. This seemed to do the trick. There are some lovely eateries in Gosforth which is about a 15 minute walk away. I would especially recommend The Globe and The Wild Olive.

Just spent 4 nights/5 days at Bleng Barn Cottage with my husband, daughter and friends of ours – together with our 2 dogs. Lovely welcome from Isabelle (the farmer) who showed us around the property and informed us that she would be on hand next door should we require anything. Lovely 3 bedroom cottage with 2 bathrooms set on a working farm in a beautiful location. Although there were four adults, two teenagers and two dogs, the cottage never seemed overcrowded. The kitchen is fully equipped with all mod cons, including separate hob/oven, dishwasher, microwave and fridge freezer. Also in the downstairs shower room there was a washing machine/tumble dryer for the use of guests. The cottage also has sky television and access to free wifi. The farm is set in 250 acres+ of woodland with some beautiful walks and approx 10-15 minutes walk into the village of Gosforth for shops, pubs etc. A great location also for Wastwater Lake, Eskdale Valley and the coast. We were fortunate to be staying at the cottage during lambing season and were also delighted to see the arrival of the new foal which was born in the field adjacent to the patio area. Just before our arrival, the farm was also busy with the arrival of calves and a litter of puppies; which we could quite gladly have adopted and taken home! We found the cottage to be very comfortable and homely and situated in a beautiful location. We are already planning our next trip to this beautiful part of the Lake District and would recommend Bleng Barn Cottage to family and friends.
