Following a rescheduling due to Covid19, Sykes offered us a september booking at a ludicrously higher price.. They woukd not fey to my requests for a refund on the grounds that two of our party were over 70 and therefore vulnerable and as a result just one couple used the cottage. The owners are wonderful generous people who were so helpful but our treatment be Sykes was reprehensible. I doubt this feedback will be published but I woukd urge anyone to give this company a wide birth their behaviour during the health crisis has been disgraceful and many customers have had to resort to court action.

Another superb stay in this cracking location, an excellent cottage well placed for exploring the south western side of the lakes..

The cottage was ideal for our needs and very well presented.. It had lovely Christmas decorations and was very well equipped (we cooked Christmas dinner). The location is good with plenty of walks, short or long, from the door or nearby. The ground floor room and toilet meant that we were able to accommodate Grandma, who could not have managed stairs, for a few days We had 5 adults in the cottage. It would have been a little cramped with 6 adults also it would not have been possible for Grandma to use the shower as there are no grab rails. I just mention this so other guests are aware. Sally-Ann is an attentive host.

Was very impressed by quality of location, loved it and where it was placed. Hope to visit again. Lots of space (four in a six bedroom house) but overall even impressed with the size. Very comfortable and cozy!

Lovely cottage and host, perfectly located for hiking in a breathtaking area.. Nearby an added bonus of a quality farm shop with a great cafe with some outside covered seating, serving excellent breakfast rolls, lunch, lovely lattes etc as well as a couple of pubs. Added thoughtful extras in the cottage on arrival were the icing on the cake. Some challenging hikes on the doorstep, but also more gentler ones when you need a break from the hills. Thank you to Sally-Anne for a very memorable holiday for All the right reasons.

The cottage is excellent with everything you need.. It is in a wonderful position and the owners Sally Anne and David are very welcoming and helpful. They gave us a tour of the farm which we thoroughly enjoyed, even letting us hold the new lambs. We will definitely be returning. Wonderful cottage, wonderful position and wonderful people. Highly recommended.

The cottage was excellent very comfortable, location was perfect beautiful views and our host David and Sally made our stay a pleasure.. The cottage is set in a working farm and we arrived at the start of lambing, our hosts were great allowing access to there working life and they enjoyed discussing farming even in their busy working day. A must stay location situated a short drive from Scafell Mastiff car park and Wastwater Lake .Great walks for the family, hill and mountain walkers alike.

Absolutely loved our long weekend here. The property is beautiful, maybe a little snug for 6 of you in the kitchen/sitting area but perfectly functional in all other aspects. Full of character, cosy & comfy, well equipped and lovely owners. The treats they left for us on arrival are a fab added bonus. Great location for what we needed and the night sky in the middle of nowhere is sensational. Head to the pub for dinner, it really was good after a long day of walking.

We received a very warm welcome from the hosts, David and Sally-Anne.. They had put the heating on ready for us and some lamps, as it was dusk when we arrived. The welcome pack and flowers were appreciated. The cottage is very cosy and comfortable and had everything we needed, including soaps and shampoo in both bathrooms. We enjoyed watching many different birds at the garden feeder. It is in an ideal location for exploring Wasdale and the surrounding fells and valleys. A torch is essential if you are walking to the pub, as it is very dark at night, which is great for star-gazing. We ate at the Strands Inn most evenings, where the food was tasty, plentiful and fresh. They brew their own excellent beers and have six on hand pump at any one time. Overall we had an excellent time at Stable End Cottage, and would be very happy to stay again.

The hosts were very kind and left a new carton of milk in the fridge, tea bags, chocolate for energy whilst climbing the tallest mountain in England nearby, fresh eggs from the farms chickens and fresh flowers on display.. They also emailed us in advance to let us know the names and phone numbers of nearby pubs and restaurants and the distance from the farm.

The cottage is superbly situated for Wast Water and Scafell Pike.. We use kayaks so the little yard at the front of the cottage was ideal for leaving them there when we went out. The parking is ample and the cottage is very clean with everything we needed for the week, including walking maps of the area. We slept in the upstairs bedroom which had lots of storage but felt cosy. The owners are the nicest people you could meet, helpful, welcoming but not intrusive at all. There are two pubs within walking distance from the cottage and we ate our meals in the Screes pub [the food was glorious]. We have returned home and booked already the same week next year ! If I had to be critical I would say the photos do not do the cottage justice.

Stayed for only a weekend. What seemed not enough time to enjoy all the things we can do in the surroundings. The weather was beautiful, went for long hikes along the river, pub a short distance walk and a lovely bbq! Can’t wait to go back!!

We stayed here in March. David and Sally Ann were extremely accommodating. We had a guest who was a wheelchair user, and although the cottage wasn't suitable they made arrangements to make it easier for us to use. The farm is amazing, we were able to look around at all the animals, lambs, calves, chicks. Jess the dog was very friendly. The cottage was very clean, the welcome pack was a lovely touch. The walks to the lake were breathtaking. We drove to Whitehaven and this was nice. Sally Ann really researched places we could take the wheelchair. We went on the train as recommended. We will definitely be staying again!

Brilliant cottage in one of the best locations in the Lake District. Peaceful and quiet with stunning surroundings. The cottage is 250 years old but very well appointed and has been tastefully modernised. Wi-fi is a bonus as Wasdale has no mobile telephone coverage which is a massive bonus if you want peace and tranquillity. This cottage really does tick all of the boxes. Hosts most welcoming, very nice people. Very highly recommended.

The cottage was snug and warm and well laid out. A comfortable space to spend a week. The surrounding area is fantastic with great walks on the doorstep. Being on the farm was great too. The owners were excellent hosts, they were just what you want; friendly and helpful but respectful of our space. They really added to the enjoyment of the stay.

We had a wonderful weekend break and regretted not staying for longer. The setting and facilities were superb with extremely accommodating hosts. It seemed to us to be the absolute model of what a holiday in the Lake District should be. We felt at home and we can't wait to return.
