This cottage was in a beautiful area, and lovely and warm ,the problem we had was we hadn't noticed they allowed dogs, for all the cottage was clean it was obviously used a lot by dog lovers.. For this reason we wouldn't use this cottage again,

Lovely holiday let, very well presented with all amenities expected. Log burning fire was a lovely feature and made for a very cozy setting, the property has a lot of character. Very well located, walking distance to Cartmel and close to the train station for day trips. The local pub a stones throw away has a great atmosphere and a friendly welcoming landlord. Highly recommended for a relaxing time away.

We enjoyed our stay at Herdwick Cottage,my only reservation was in the fact that the yard is communal behind a row of terrace cottages and our dogs don't stray , but in the main season it could be a problem if there are dogs in a few of the cottages.. Other than that,we were gappy with the cottage and the welcome treats made you feel soecial.Thankyou.

Everything about the cottage was perfect, the only drawback was the open back yard having to keep an eye on the dogs

This holiday home exceeded our expectations, we had a lovely Christmas welcome pack that was so appreciated and it was like home from home.. We especially appreciated all utensils available to cook a great Christmas dinner and the sloping floor seemed quite level after a couple of glasses of the Prosecco left for us in our welcome pack. We would thoroughly recommend this place and can't wait to come back. Thank you so much, one of our best Christmas's ever!

The cleanliness of this cottage was terrible.. the place had clearly not been vacuumed. there was dog hair and dog biscuits on the floor. such a disappointment. Also one tiny frying pan, no sharp knife and DVD player doesn’t work.

We had a great weekend here. The village is really pretty and the cottage is fronted with a lovely beck. The wood burning stove made it really cosy and there was a good supply of logs and kindling provided. We had a nice walk straight from the cottage round Flookborough Head and ended back at the Engine Inn just a few doors from the house. The food and service there was fab. Very friendly and welcoming. We were well advised to book in the afternoon as it was pretty full by 7pm. The cottage was great value for money, spotlessly clean and well stocked with tea, coffee, fresh milk and eggs and even some home baking. We will definitely be back! The dogs loved it too!

Another wonderful week.. Another wonderful welcome. The weather was wet - but that's what you get, when you visit The Lakes in December. The dogs love the walks - and I love the talks, with the wonderful neighbours of Herdwick. (P.S. If your dogs need a garden, don't go - but the walks give a wonderful glow.) (P.P.S. I only gave a 'met expectations' because I pretty much knew what to expect - and wasn't disappointed.)

A real gem! Welcome pack most welcome. Ideal for the dogs. Right size for me. Right location for visiting friends and family. Very friendly neighbours - locals and visitors. Didn't want to leave. A pity it's over 330 miles from home!

Lovely cottage.. Had a great stay. Everything we needed was in the cottage. There was a lovely welcome gift of wine cakes fruit flowers and milk. The cottage was in a good position to go out exploring and great walks from the doorstep. Great that we could take three dogs. Even treats gifted for them. Neighbours were lovely. Very quiet location but nice pubs serving good food two minutes walk from the property. Love bakery same distance. Would highly recommend for price and comfort.

We enjoyed our stay and the cottage was comfortable and equipped with everything we needed.. A freshly baked cake, flowers, fruit and wine were a lovely touch.

Lovely, cosy cottage in a very friendly village.. The owner has included lots of things to make self catering easy. Holker Hall is a short stroll away, we popped round for coffee. It is very dog friendly. A nice cottage in an off the beaten track, edge of the Lake District location.

We had a lovely stay and the weather was great! We could sit in the sun from eight in the morning until ten at night the cottage was spotless but we could not get wifi and some TV programs and a shelf in the bathroom would have been helpful. We would definitely go back again

Beautiful location.. Lovely village. Very friendly people. Although the back is not enclosed the cottage owners left an explanation. We didn't find it a problem with our dogs but Sykes should make it clear as not all dogs are as well behaved as ours.

The cottage was in a lovely location with great amenities close by and within easy access to the National Park.. The locals were very welcoming and we ate at the 3 local establishments and walked to a food fayre at Holker Hall just a 5 minutes walk away. The cottage itself was comfortable enough in most respects but my friend and I both felt our beds to be uncomfortable. The lack of somewhere to hang coats and walking straight into the lounge from the front door onto a cream carpet is a recipe for disaster. Luckily for us it was beautiful weather but I would suggest it would be difficult with dogs if the weather was wet. The nice touch of providing provisions on arrival including dog biscuits and home made cakes with a welcoming card was very pleasant. It is stated that dogs are welcome in the cottage but nowhere does it state until on arrival that they must be locked in the kitchen overnight. Therefore, I would question whether they are actually really welcome! The weather was stunning for our visit to Cumbria and overall it was a very enjoyable experience. I am now hoping that I will not be hounded by Sykes cottages as I was last year trying to encourage me to book my next year's holiday. I appreciate the need for proactive marketing but it bordered on the ridiculous last year and did make me think twice about booking through them again and is the reason for the lower recommendation score.

Lovely little cottage in a tranquil location.. Lots to see and do nearby. Pubs in the village serve delicious food and are both dog friendly. Our favourite though was the Rose and Crown (better selection of food) The cottage is extremely clean and has everything you need for a home from home stay. Locals are very friendly. Highly recommend!
