There are plenty of poolside sun loungers where you can spend lazy days, only interrupting your sunbathing sessions for cooling dips in the water and light bites at the outdoor dining area.

Inside, you'll uncover a similar traditional style to the exterior, with plenty of exposed stone, dark wood floors and furnishings, plus elegant wrought-iron beds. It's a tried and tested design that, when combined with the thick walls, ensures things stay nice and cool inside no matter how hot it is out by the pool.

Despite the off-the-beaten-track surroundings, the nearby village of Prines has three family-run tavernas that serve up traditional treats – perfect when you don't feel like cooking. In fact, all three will deliver right to your door if you'd rather eat in the comfort of your villa. The supermarkets in Atsipopoloulo have you covered for self-catering essentials, while the immaculately preserved Venetian old town of Rethymno is only a fifteen-minute drive away.
