I don’t often do reviews, but I couldn’t not review Five Wells Barn. The cottage itself is lovely, well fitted and comfortable, brilliantly placed in the Peak District. But it’s the kindness and generosity of Mark and Caroline that’s the most outstanding, including driving me back from A&E in the small hours of the morning, loaning me some crutches so I could sort of get around and phoning me after I’d left to arrange to send something on to me, and not even taking anything for postage. I visit the Peak District often and would love to stay here again, and hopefully cause less trouble than the first time!

We had a lovely week, even the weather was good to us.. the cottage is a lovely little gem in a lovely setting. The owners, Mark and Caroline, were very welcoming and we were especially happy with the welcome pack. One of the nicest we've had. Loved meeting Spirit the horse, I even bought some carrots to give him every day. We will definitely be back, stunning area too!

Thank you for our stay, we had a lovely few days away, the barn is beautifully presented and complimentary touches made our stay even more comfortable. We loved being in the countryside and enjoyed waking up to the animals. Would highly recommend the barn and we will hopefully be back in the future!

Wonderful location to get away from it all.. Very quiet. Really fun to watch all the animals on the farm (and feed Spirit, the horse!). Caroline and Mark (the owners) are lovely people - Really friendly and helpful in local recommendations. We'd 100% stay again!

Thank you for a lovely break away, the barn is beautifully presented and the finishing touches (basics in the fridge, handmade soaps etc) made our stay more enjoyable.. The barn is in a great location for enjoying the animals on the farm and great walks to a couple of pubs. We would love to stay again!

This beautiful barn was exactly what we wanted- a cosy getaway which felt like the middle of nowhere. When we arrived we were greeted so warmly by Mark and shown around - lovely personal touches of cheese, milk, bread, tomatoes and coffee were left for us and we knew they were on hand if we needed anything. The barn itself is gorgeous- really well decorated and so comfortable. The underfloor heating made the stone flag floor very comfortable to walk on and the log burner was easy to use. There is a full length windownlooking out on the farmers field where we could have spent hours watching the sheep graze and seeing the changing skies over the fields. There was a folder full of printed out walks and suggestions of activities and we made use of the sheet for a 6 mile walk - a wonderful day was spent exploring the gorgeous countryside and it ended in the local pub at Chelmorton which was outstanding. The pub was only a 10 min walk away from the barn - over a field. We will definitely be going back again - we wanted a romantic getaway where we could go for long walks and spend quality time away from the world- we got exactly that.

This beautiful area of Derbyshire was rejuvenating, peaceful & pastoral.. Mark & Caroline welcomed us to their lovely farm we felt cosy & part of the place immediately. Despite the wet & windy weather there was a lot going for this week away. Nearby Dovedale walks, visiting Buxton museum and great art exhibition. Don't fail to have lunch in Dubbing Good Food in Buxton fab menu and choices. The Source cafe is friendly, excellent coffee & cake. Definitely would return to Five Wells Barn.

A real 'Escape to the Country'! We had a most enjoyable 3 night stay at Five Wells Barn. Such a friendly welcome and the smiles continued throughout our stay; we both already miss the views, the clean air, the very long walks and the cosy barn. We will definitely be back! Thank you to Mark and Caroline.

What a fabulous break in a perfect cottage! A deceptive exterior hides a luxurious and very well presented interior. With a number of walks on your doorstep this was a fantastic and memorable break. Would highly recommend.

We enjoyed a fantastic Christmas week at Fivewells Barn.. The owners made us feel very welcome and had even gone to the trouble of adding some Christmas decorations for us. Also the gifts that had been left for us on arrival were a very kind thought. The cottage itself is perfect for two people and is very comfortable. We enjoyed lighting the log burner although it is very efficient and with the underfloor heating aswell we were more than cosy. The views around, even in the winter, are breathtaking and provides a real feeling of space. The location itself was perfect for us as we took our electric bikes and were able to make use of the Monsal, Tissington and High Peak Trails as well as the other quiet roads in the area. We would recommend this accommodation without hesitation and certainly hope that we can return for another visit.

From start to finish we loved our time at Five Wells. Mark and Caroline were so welcoming and friendly. The cottage is really well equipped and serves as an ideal bolt hole after a long day of walking - the log burner is a particular treat. We loved waking up each morning and enjoying breakfast with such a glorious view, not to mention the added bonus of watching the sheep out in the fields. We had a lovely stay and can’t wait to book again.

Five Wells barn ticked every box for our search for the perfect getaway. We have stayed in a few places over the years in the Peak district and they have all been very nice. However Five Wells barn was just something else and we really didn't want to leave! From the decor (which is everything I would have chosen for myself) to opening the blinds in the morning to the most incredible view over Derbyshire with sheep, horses, donkeys, goats and chickens all greeting you in the field outside. We didn't even put the TV on sometimes and just sat watching the animals; the two kittens in the field were highly entertaining as were the donkeys! A very warm welcome will be waiting for you from the owners, Mark and Caroline. We will definately be back next year.

Five Wells barn was just perfect for us, we didn't want to leave! Waking up to the views from every window and being greeted by the animals every morning was just wonderful. The barn itself was exactly what I would have chosen if I'd have designed and decorated it myself! Mark and Caroline have done an amazing job and a very warm welcome is waiting for anyone who chooses to stay here. We will definitely be back here ☺

We arrived at 5 Wells farm after a long drive up from Essex to be greeted with the most glorious scenes of rolling countryside in the Peak District, our stay in Mark and Carolines converted barn with stunning views on their working farm was a fabulously relaxing break, the decor and comfort was superb with some much appreciated milk and essentials provided. With many walks, bike hire, a visit to Chatsworth and some lovely local pubs our mini break was complete!...oh and we were lucky enough to have some lambs born whilst there. Highly recommend.

We had a lovely holiday.. Fantastic walking from the door, beautiful converted farm building, great log burner and wonderful views. Beautifully furnished and very cosy. Mark and Carolyn were wonderful hosts making sure we had everything we needed, including fresh eggs from their hens and extra logs for the burner. Can't wait to go back!

The perfect getaway! We booked Five Wells as we were getting married just up the road at Haddon Hall. My wife stayed at the cottage on the Friday night before getting ready for the wedding Saturday and I joined her for the remainder of her stay. The cottage was more than we could of asked for. The hosts were excellent in ensuring we had a perfect honeymoon, even leaving a wedding gift by the door for our return from the ceremony, a lovely touch. We will most certainly be returning in the future. A must stay for an couple looking to escape the hustle and bustle.

A beautifully converted barn in a peaceful setting with a cozy log fire and underfloor heating , we arrived to a lovely welcome pack and a very warm welcome from Mark and the chickens ! A great place for a relaxing weekend, or there are good walks if you want to be more active, we would highly recommend it. Thank you

November 2018
Lovely cottage very cosy and no clutter of crockery and ornaments and it was very clean and tidy.. However a toaster would have been useful as it was a bit inconvenient to have to use the grill in the oven. Also, there wasn't a plug for a hairdryer near the mirror in the bedroom. Although we were aware of the long lane leading to the cottage, a sign pointing you in the right direction would have been very useful as getting to the cottage between farm and buildings was belwildering and the lane was very very muddy with potholes.

We were looking for a peaceful countryside cottage and Five Wells Barn was the perfect choice. The accommodation is very cosy and, despite being slightly off-the-beaten track, the TV, Wi-Fi and heating all worked marvellously, which isn't always the case in holiday cottages! A friendly horse, donkeys, chickens, sheep and (if you time it right) lambs are just seconds away from the front door. A great base to explore nearby Bakewell, Buxton, Chatsworth, Eyams and the amazing Monsal Trail. Highly recommended!

We had an amazing time! The place is just a perfect get away for two people, very comfy, cosy and romantic. Although we came in the snow and we're able to use the log burner which was gorgeous I'm sure it's a lovely place to be in all seasons! The views were amazing over the rolling hills and it's well located for walks and local villages. The hosts were perfect too - so generous with providing logs for the fire and essentials we needed but also left us in complete privacy! A proper luxury property, completely clean and cozy :) will definitely recommend to others!

The barn is positioned at the side of the working farm in a private position.. It has superb views from the windows. Inside it is beautifully decorated with luxury touches such as White Company bedding on a comfortable double bed. The decor is rustic and comforting. Even though we arrived in snow ( which made everywhere look very pretty), we were warm with underfloor heating and an efficient wood burner. I have never had such a generous amount of provisions left us- coffee, tea, milk, bread, eggs, butter, cheese, tomatoes,a whole tin of chocolate biscuits as well as a bottle of Prosecco!!! We were well looked after by the owner too who answered any questions we had. There is a lovely pub a short distance away you can walk to, although we drove due to the snow. Buxton is only about 4 miles away. There are some interesting gift and boutique type shops within the old swimming baths that have been converted. ( You can still see the tiles on the walls and the glass ceilings) We explored the area easily taking in Bakewell and spectacular Chatsworth. A wonderful romantic place to escape to and recharge your batteries!

Lovely stay in the snow.. We were a bit worried about getting snowed in or not reaching the cottage but the hosts help make sure we got there safely. Even if we did we were supplied with wood and food to make sure we would do it in comfort.

Anyone knows how they feel after a flight from New Zealand...24hrs flying plus transit time. I chose this cottage as it wasn't too far from Manchester airport, but far enough to escape the hustle and bustle. So much better to fly into than Heathrow. Used GPS which was accurate. Don't drive into five well farms carry on following driveway around and between house on left and barn on right. You cannot see the cottage until you follow this route. Was met by Caroline who showed me around the cottage. An absolutely beautiful cottage which suited my needs. I spent hours staring out of the big window with expansive views. Yes the sheep do come right up to the window. So many holiday cottages I have rented have terrible beds but this one was fabulous. I loved the decor. A welcome pack was left which even though I didn't use was much appreciated ( I'd already shopped at Waitrose in Buxton) I stayed 5 days and only ventured out on last day. If like me you hate the cold this cottage is warm. I love my own company and solitude, no noise, no lights. This place really recharged my batteries. Caroline and Mark were very helpful and friendly and are there should you have any questions. A perfect place for a solo woman. Very reasonably priced one of the cheapest, but nicest cottages I've stayed in. I always write reviews and encourage you to do the same as it's always helpful for others.

Situated on a working Farm in Flagg just a short walk (or even shorter drive) to the little village of Chelmorton this cottage is just perfect for a romantic break. Although part of the farm you are not overlooked in any way and the views out across the fields are unspoiled and amazing. The only onlookers you might get are the sheep and chickens that pass by the full length window and occasionally look in! Inside the cottage is well laid out and the owners have spared no expense in decorating it and furnishing it to a very high standard. They have thought of lots of little touches to make it as romantic as possible. WiFi is also available so you can still keep in touch with the outside world......if you want to? The bed is really comfortable and the kitchen equipped with pretty much everything you would need and the underfloor heating ensures a lovely temperature. If the weather permits there is a secluded patio area outside with chairs to sit and enjoy the sunsets however if the great British weather is against you, you can just stay inside, snuggle down and light the wood burner. The cottage is also ideally suited with some walks right on your doorstep and many others only a short drive away. The owners Mike and Caroline are extremely friendly and welcoming and on hand for any help and advice and they have thoughtfully written out some suggestions for local walks with guides and maps. A welcome pack was also very welcomed and eggs straight from the barn next door were about as fresh as you can get. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and are already looking to see when we can return...for longer this time! So do we recommend this amazing place.......we certainly do, without any hesitation!!
